“Anti-Terror” Patrols Under New York City

In an unprecedented anti-terrorism initiative aimed at keeping straphangers safe, cops armed with submachine guns and bomb-sniffing dogs will conduct daily patrols of the subway system starting this month, officials said yesterday.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said a boost in federal funding made the extra protection possible.
“Whether conventional crime or a terrorist threat, we will not let our guard down,” said Kelly.
The patrols – called “Operation Torch” – will begin in three weeks and involve teams made up of a sergeant, five officers and a bomb-sniffing dog, Kelly said.
The new security measure is one use to come from the $151.2 million in aid from the Department of Homeland Security to transit systems in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The NYPD did not specify how much of the new grant money would go to funding the subway patrols.

I can’t wait for the ID challenge when I am on foot and not driving. As a former cop I can tell that the only thing the Supreme Court requires of citizens is for you to ID yourself to cops when asked to. The court did not say that you had to do this by showing an ID card or papers. This is in regard to walking down the street minding your own business. The court does allows for such restrictions when entering secure areas of jails, airports, etc. or when operating a vehicle, plane, etc.
Hmm, on second thought my government agency is issuing me a “national ID card”. Maybe I will just carry this. It does not have my address, date of birth or anything other than my name and pic visible. On the card chip will be my employee ID (not SSN), full name, fingerprint, security level and duty station. So when NYPD asks me for an ID I’ll show them my federal ID card and laugh as they do cart wheels. I visit NYC every other month.

In case you guys don’t know, there are muslims who would love nothing more than to kill every one of us. They have bombed subways in Europe. What makes you think they won’t do it here? How many of you have actually rode a subway in New York? I for one am glad they are going to be there. As a Texan living in NYC I can attest to the weakness of the people in this city. So many young people are more concerned with being hip and politically correct than with the rising police state and demise of our rights as human beings. Not to mention, I can’t even have a gun in this city. As a hunter, I feel very comfortable with guns and understand their importance as the people’s last protection. In the neo-liberal world, advocating the second amendment labels one a crazy hillbilly, but they fail to see, as Mao Se Tung said, that “political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”
An incredible idea, to march with our guns as an exercise of the 2nd amendment. I’d be proud to do the same.
