“British jobs for British workers!” thundered Gordon Brown, as he emerged from the shadow of Tony Blair to become prime minister.

His populist sloganeering has now come back to bite him.
Across Britain, thousands laid down tools in wildcat strikes in solidarity with a walkout from a French-owned oil refinery in North Killinghome—to protest a $300 million contract to an Italian company that plans to bring in 400 Italian and Portuguese workers to fulfill it.
As Brown pleaded from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that Britain must not retreat into “protectionism,” strikes spread to Scotland, Wales and Ulster.
Britain’s commitment to let foreigners buy up its utilities and industries and bring in foreign workers to run them has backfired. Brown’s own Labor Party is now angrily demanding that he live up to his pledge: British jobs for British workers.
“The Return of Economic Nationalism,” wails the alarmed cover of The Economist. And understandably so.
For the stimulus bills of both Houses have a “Buy American” provision mandating that in “public works” only U.S. iron, steel and manufactures be used. The provision came out of the appropriations committee of the House on a 55-to-0 vote.
The Senate watered it down by declaring the Buy American provision must be consistent with all U.S. trade commitments. But Congress is sending a message: The rebuilding of America is to be a project of, by and for Americans, not outsourced. Sen. McCain’s free-trade amendment, to strip all Buy American provisions from the bill, was routed 65 to 31.

Well if the Government would quit chasing all the manufacturing businesses out of the country, we could find something to buy that is American made. It’s really hard to find anything made in the USA anymore. And with the new carbon taxes they want to put into place there will be far less made in the USA since it will force the closure of those businesses, or they would have to raise prices through the roof.

That’s because virtually all t-shirts were outsourced years ago and the US t-shirt makers went out of business years ago. Now the cotton growers of America get government subsidies and make a tidy profit supplying US cotton to their third world sweat-shop operations.
The other point is that we have a real threat of a Dollar crash and hyperinflation. we won’t be buying anything if the currency is worthless. We will just be bartering staple goods like storable food.
Trillions of Dollars have been added to the US Dollar money supply. The only reason it hasn’t crashed is because the credit markets are largely frozen and foreign bond holders are sitting on their reserves. This keeps most of the huge pile of new money out of circulation but this cannot last.
The Middle eastern countries are going to release a regional trading currency for oil and gas in 2010 that based on gold. At this stage all customers of Middle eastern oil and gas will have to sell out of Dollars and go into the gulf regional reserve currency so that they can keep buying oil. It looks to me like the next major crisis will happen in 2009 but even if it doesn’t the Dollar’s dead in the water in 2010 even if the US nuked the region and started WW3 it would still collapse. It’s gone too far already. The main thing that’s keeping the value of the Dollar is that billions of people around the world habitually view it as a token of value. They have faith in it purely because “it has always been worth something in the past”. It only takes a small change in perception and risk and a better perceived alternative to bring it down through “herd reaction”.

I agree with that 2bwise. I have nothing against legal immigration. America was ‘founded’ by Europeans coming here; the Indigenous People paid a very heavy price…………
But today it seems, the backers & developers of the North American Union use immigrants. I wonder if it because immigrants may not have a strong commitment / attachment to & of Constitutional rights. My fiancee is from Indonesia and she doesnt know alot about American history ( she does know of what happened to the Indigenous People here, as does nearly everyone else in the World)…nor does she keep up on events happening today. The North American Union developers and those that seek to construct a new order, can manipulate immigrants much easier, perhaps.

This is 1 reason why I wish that I had that e-mail blasting software…..I could ‘inform’ everybody in the whole world with an e-mail address about the nwo crowd. I just havn’t had any income because of a crippled knee. I did an e-mail blast back in December of 2005 but my computer crashed & lost the software. $70.00 could spell the difference between success or failure.

i live in a county where there about 1000 new customers every year. they will need my proposed service for about two years. these customers will spend $15 a week for my service(beating the competition by about $6) if i can capture just 100 customers in this market every year, i figure i can generate a cash flow of $78000 a year. it will put a dent in the current market that literaly throws 3 billion barrels of oil and a quarter of a million trees into the landfills( and more oftain than not, violates health codes). it also has the public benefit of keeping the money i collect inside my county. the product is superior to that currently offered in the market. what is this magical service? diaper service. i figure that start up is less than $10000. not glamorous, but has great potential. become the cloth diaper service baron in your community!

That’s actually a very good idea. Modern diapers (We have “huggies” and “Pampers” here in Europe) will need to be replaced in a meltdown. They are far too bulky to be able to hoard, they effect the baby’s immune system negatively and will anyway be unavailable in empty shops.
The way that modern throw away diapers impact the baby’s immune system is because they are too absorbent. With reusable cotton diapers the baby has more urine in contact with it’s skin which although my lead to a rash (treatable with calamine lotion or Zinc creams) This stimulates the immune system and builds up a whole set of resistances . The main reason the disposables took over was busy working mums and a reluctance to wash soiled cotton diapers.
Any service which is a vital community action will do well and keep money or goods bartered local.
Watch out for health regulation busybodies, Etc. Oh and don’t forget plenty of those big chrome safety pins!

One day I had a wealthy person explain to me the Wal-Mart mentality.
The biggest problem with America today is that people are willing to give up their jobs for cheaper products.
Wealthy people do not brag or seek the lowest prices, they seek the highest quality which is majority American.
But Middle class and Lower class brag about getting the cheapest items, and therefore buy at Wal-Mart.
This is exactly what corporations brag about too, getting the most profit for the least amount of cost.
As long as you buy products that are the cheapest because they are made in China by workers with no union or other benefits to support them and their family.
Then you are part of the problem in this country.
Companies got your message and are now shipping your jobs away because of it.
If you can afford to pay an extra dollar to buy American.
Then you will get better value for your investment and helping keep America strong and known for producing the best products and not the cheapest.
All of us have had China products that look real, but fall apart quickly wasting your investment.

deindustrilizationstarted when i was born in 1980 and incrementally was wipped out , in 2003 to present i work for 8 factories bouncing from one place to another as a Pipefitter/Steamfitter , times where OK at best , we worry everyday where i will work next !! Jobs are evaporating as fast as the kids are growing , but one thing i am sure of is we will never starve , i ahve rifles and good hunting and garden growing skills

If you have registered guns and the authorities want to take them Here’s a tip I picked up from another survival site. It’s called the plausible deniability hole. Go out into the local woods and dig a big hole. Make a few marks on some trees and draw up a hand written map with “Gun stash” marked on it. Hide your guns somewhere else and don’t put anything in the hole.
When they come for your guns produce all your paperwork and licenses and take the cops to the hole. Show them the map and the marks on the trees. Tell them that you were really careful but when you hid the guns and ammo somebody must have been watching (maybe through binoculars). Then give all the registration numbers of the guns and declare them stolen to the cops in the proper manner.
Your guns are now registered stolen but that’s a whole lot better then no guns at all!

I would love to buy American, if i could find a product made in this country. for instance, Evenflow baby monitors, an american company based in Ohio, but the monitors themselves are manufactured in China. Chevy Corsica, 100% made in Mexico but its an american car isnt it???? How about Honda civic, completely built in America, though its a Japenese car, isnt it??? so please define for em just what the fuck Buy American really is? And i point out thats its increasingly dificult to buy American when we dont make anything here and most of what we do make is of a quality so shitty im embarassed to c the Made in USA label on it.

I hear alot of Made in the USA products can be found on the internet, High quality products stitched right here in America by Americans ,many who have passed down skills from past generations. Right now, I’d rather give them my money than some overseas corporation.

Americans have been complaining for many years and nothing gets done. When Italians and French complain things do get changed. Take lessons on how to complain from them. Writing your complaints here has not changed anything has it. Writing and e-mailing your elected officials dies not get anything changed so why do that. What do the Italians and Frnch do so well when they complain? Do the research and learn from them. Lesson 1 that Italians and the French learn is not to become like Americans. If you want to make a real change then move to Venezuela.

This collapse has nothing to do with China or Buy America-this economic collapse is fueled by monies stolen from all countries by the 1.14 quadrillion in unregulated Hedge Funds/Derivative funds-See The Bank of International Settlements website that controls the central bankers of the world. Also, what caused this mess are the “womens groups” who put women into position in corporations who are not qualified-I (as a man) have lost three job promotions to women who had less years of education, less years of experience-look no further than Nancy Pelosi as a prime example-Look at our education system-Over 90% of all Elementary teachers are women…no wonder Johnny(male) cannot read…over 90% of the soldiers that died in the Iraq war have been men….I can go on…women cry about breast cancer and get funding….however more men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer and get very little funding….The women of the Senate/House cried out about the war but went ahead and okayed it-this alone has cost us 3 trillion dollars. The business I now own is doing quite well as I only hire men…I refuse to hire women to bankrupt my business….Remember buy American and buy/hire men only…unless you’re a liberal….or a sellout…I’m sure the fem-nazis will raid my business….I’ll just start over. Americans must insist that American companies stop outscourcing jobs.
We should buy American and stop buying china products (they are not willing to provide real liberty to their people and we shouldn’t be supporting their power-tyranny anymore.
Anything/anywhere, but China Products should be our cry.
We should boycott Walmart and any other large company whose bottom-line profit direction is made at the expense of selling American products made in America!
