2 Deaths Linked to Flu in L.A. County

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is investigating two recent deaths that officials say could be related to the recent global swine flu outbreak. However, no tests have come back positive for the swine flu, and medical examiners have not officially determined what caused the deaths.
[Updated at 9:30 a.m.: Coroner's spokesman Craig Harvey said his office would collect specimens from the deceased and send them to the county public health department, which would determine whether either person died from the swine flu. If so, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would be notified, Harvey said.]

The second case involves a 45-year-old man from La Mirada, whose death was reported Monday to the coroner’s office. The man died April 22 at Coast Plaza Doctor’s Hospital in Norwalk.

My first thought too. Albeit Lymphoma is cancer, but the term lymphoma translates from Latin as follows:
Lymph: “referring to the lymphatic system or lymph nodes”
And
-oma: “a condition of”
I assume this means the patient presented with complaints of pain and/or swelling in his lymph nodes, which is common in many communicable diseases.

Yes, lymphoma IS a cancer, also if the direct translations might mean something different. Also, pneumonia is usually caused by bacteria and a virus is not involved, unless you have a major breakdown of the your system.

No way I’m going to take any flu shots or any other shots they may want to give out. If/when the CDC raises the pandemic alert to 5 or if/when there is a local report of infection, we’re staying home and not going out in public so much. We live out on the border of a small town and farm land so we don’t have a dense population.

Does anyone know how many people die from the flu each year? I suggest you look it up because it is very possible that these deaths would have occurred anyways regardless if this ’swine flue’ actually did break out or not! Is it me or am I crazy for thinking outside the box.
For the record, 20,000 to 30,000 people die each year from flu in the U.S. alone. That would be an average of about 68 people per day folks! Wow….what a coincidence.

I live in Tennssee. The news here is saying that a child died from the virus today. It is in a county over 100 miles from me but I am debating if I will send my kids to school tomorrow. They have shut down the school where the child went. I am really begining to believe, it is only going to get worse. They are also saying we dont need to worry about it, but people here are not like L. A. We know better.
