
<p><strong>During a tense debate in the Polish parliament, Prime Minister Donald Tusk did not mince his words as he accused the conservative <a href="https://rmx.news/poland/poland-ruling-law-and-justice-party-pis-is-surging-in-the-polls/">Law and Justice (PiS)</a> party of being “paid traitors and Russian servants.”</strong></p>



<p>During the debate leading up to the vote, Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke about&nbsp;<a href="https://rmx.news/article/poland-s-civic-platform-is-endorsing-the-idea-of-a-european-army/">Russian influences</a>&nbsp;within the Law and Justice party. The head of government announced the establishment of a new service alongside the prosecutor’s office and a commission to investigate Russian and Belarusian influences within the opposition benches.</p><div class="qQ2vTjBo"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>“We are dealing with the governance of a political party that has been operating here in Poland under the influence of Russian interests for many, many years,” Tusk claimed.</p>



<p>He also outlined the history of recent years, explaining that PiS came to power as a result of cooperation with Russia during the so-called&nbsp;<a href="https://rmx.news/commentary/pis-must-enchant-poles-poland-again/">tape scandal</a>, accusing the previous conservative government of turning a blind eye to Russian interests in Poland for political reasons.</p>



<p>All this took place in the Sejm during the debate on the Law and Justice party’s motion to dismiss the environment minister. This was not about the prime minister disclosing the sensational case of Judge&nbsp;<a href="https://rmx.news/article/polish-intelligence-judge-who-defected-to-belarus-had-worked-with-russian-and-belarusian-intelligence-for-years/">Tomasz Szmydt</a>, whose judicial immunity was just lifted to issue a warrant for his arrest due to his alleged espionage for eastern intelligence after he sought asylum in Belarus. <p>Prime Minister Donald Tusk decided to seize the opportunity to level the most serious accusations possible. Thus, we find ourselves in an extraordinary situation with two possible outcomes.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The first option: We take the prime minister’s words seriously. Deadly seriously. This means that tomorrow, the day after, and in the following days, the services will arrest decision-makers from recent years and prove their connections with Russia, presenting evidence of treason in court. After all, the prime minister, relying on reports from special services, would not accuse the party that has governed for the last eight years of being “Russian stooges” without having conclusive evidence, would he?</p>



<p>If, following the exposure of Judge Szmydt in Belarus, the concept of delegalizing PiS emerges, it seems we are acting according to a script written in the Kremlin.</p><div class="8LB5aN5k"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>



<p>But if that does not happen, then we are left with the second option. Namely, to shrug our shoulders and acknowledge that accusations of serving Russian interests have simply become part of the political folklore in Poland. PiS could just as easily accuse Tusk of colluding with Russia and serving Berlin and Moscow in the same way that Tusk claims the last eight years have been governed by Russian interests and influences. Then we go home, have dinner, and accept that nothing has happened.</p>



<p>But, then we will not be able to treat our state seriously. It’s one or the other. And regardless of which scenario plays out, Tusk’s bold claims have undoubtedly set the stage for a dramatic chapter in Polish politics.</p>

Polish PM Tusk Hijacks Parliamentary Debate to Accuse Conservative Opposition of Being ‘Russian-Paid Servants’


<p><strong>Dozens of &#8216;migrants&#8217; apprehended in waters near Puerto Rico were brought to the Dominican Republic by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) this week.</strong></p>



<p>The bust unfolded on Saturday evening in the Caribbean Sea approximately 27 nautical miles southwest of Mona Island, PR.</p><div class="bMwWVEwA"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>A USCG aircrew spotted a 30-foot boat engaged in an &#8220;unlawful maritime migration voyage&#8221; and a cutter was dispatched to intercept, USCG explained in a <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.news.uscg.mil/Press-Releases/Article/3768822/coast-guard-repatriates-51-migrants-to-dominican-republic-following-vessel-inte/" target="_blank">press release</a>.</p>



<p>&#8220;Once on scene, the cutter crew stopped the vessel and embarked 52 migrants, 51 claimed to be Dominican Republic nationals and one other who claimed to be Haitian.&#8221;</p>

<p>More than 1,200 foreign nationals have been interdicted in waters around Mona Island and Puerto Rico since October 1.</p>

<p>The study was led by a team of researchers from&nbsp;<em><a href="https://www.psu.edu/">Pennsylvania State University&#8217;s</a></em>&nbsp;Department of Nutritional Sciences. The team included Kristina Petersen, associate professor of Nutritional Sciences, and Penny Kris-Etherton, retired professor of Nutritional Sciences.</p><div class="ZyXY3RKf"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>For the study, the research team&nbsp;investigated&nbsp;how food-based intervention, specifically&nbsp;one avocado per day, can affect overall diet quality. The findings are important because poor diet quality is a risk factor for many diseases,&nbsp;<a href="https://heartdisease.news/">including heart disease</a>.</p>



<p>Additionally, many American adults have poor diet quality and do not meet key dietary recommendations provided by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.</p>



<h2>A closer look at avocados and dietary habits</h2>

<p>While conducting the study, the researchers tried to find out if the regular intake of avocadoes would result in &#8220;an increase in diet quality.</p>



<p>Petersen said previous observational research suggests that avocado consumers have higher diet quality compared to non-consumers. As a result, the research team developed the study to find out if &#8220;there is a causational link between avocado consumption and overall diet quality.&#8221;</p>



<p>Petersen explained that because only two percent of American adults are regular avocado consumers, the researchers tried to confirm if including avocados in someone&#8217;s daily diet could significantly increase their diet quality.</p><div class="AF0lcS2x"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>



<p>Before the study, researchers conducted phone interviews with participants. Interviews were also conducted throughout the study to find out what their dietary intake was like in the previous 24 hours.</p>



<p>The researchers also evaluated their diets using the Healthy Eating Index to measure how well they adhered to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.</p>



<p>The researchers worked with 1,008 participants divided into two groups. One group continued with their usual diet and limited their avocado intake during the 26-week study. The second group incorporate one avocado a day into their diet.</p>

<p>Some participants also used avocados to replace some unhealthier options. Petersen warned that having poor diet quality significantly increases one&#8217;s risk for conditions like heart disease, kidney disease,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.naturalpedia.com/type-2-diabetes-causes-side-effects-and-treatments-at-naturalpedia-com.html">Type 2 diabetes</a>&nbsp;and other preventable diseases.</p>



<p>She advised that&nbsp;improving people&#8217;s adherence to dietary guidelines is an effective way of helping reduce their risk of developing chronic conditions and &#8220;prolong healthy life expectancy.&#8221;</p>



<p>Petersen has conducted similar studies about the impact of food-based interventions, including the link between pistachios and diet quality. However, she added that more research is needed to find out what other food-based strategies can be used to improve people&#8217;s adherence to dietary guidelines.</p>



<h2>Healthy ways to incorporate avocados into a balanced diet</h2>



<p>Avocados can easily be incorporated into diets through making green smoothies or adding them to scrambled eggs. Avocados can also be used as a substitute for dips like mayo and sour cream.&nbsp;Here are some&nbsp;<a href="https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/23-ways-to-eat-avocados">tips on how to incorporate an avocado</a>&nbsp;into nutritious meals:</p>



<p><strong>Seasoned</strong></p>

<p>At the other end of the spectrum,&nbsp;<strong>Alaska</strong>&nbsp;has the lowest tax burden of any state, equaling 4.9% of income. This is partly due to the fact that Alaskans do not pay state income tax.</p>



<h2>Hate Paying Taxes?</h2>



<p>In addition to Alaska, there are several other U.S. states that don’t charge income taxes. These are:&nbsp;<strong>Florida</strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Nevada</strong>,&nbsp;<strong>South Dakota</strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Tennessee</strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Texas</strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Washington</strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Wyoming</strong>.</p>



<p>It’s also worth noting that&nbsp;<strong>New Hampshire</strong>&nbsp;does not have a regular income tax, but does charge a flat 4% on interest and dividend income according to the&nbsp;<a href="https://taxfoundation.org/location/new-hampshire/">Tax Foundation</a>.</p><div class="YUOeLzmS"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>

<p>Labor is crucial for commerce. Without people to produce goods and services, commerce would cease to exist. Businesses rely on labor to function, creating a demand similar to that of material goods and services. In other words, the labor market is the foundation on which all other markets depend.</p><div class="pRa3geTU"><div id="fullAd"></div></div>



<p>In an age where everyone feels the need to have an opinion on just about everything, many people consider themselves “economic experts.” However, when everyone has an opinion on a complex issue, most of those opinions are bound to be wrong. Economics is a prime example of this, filled with false consensuses. With that in mind, let’s go ahead and debunk some common myths about the history of the American labor market, from the Industrial Revolution to the present.</p>



<p>When examining the history of America’s labor market, we must set ideology aside. Certain truths can be inconvenient when they contradict deeply held beliefs. Economics and politics are so intertwined that stating an objectively factual statement can lead to derision depending on the company one keeps. Contemporary Western society collectively holds onto many dogmas and assumptions that are patently incorrect.</p>



<p>One area of contention is the Industrial Revolution and the Gilded Age, often subject to criticism regarding the relationship between industry and climate change, income inequality, exploitation, and corruption by capitalism’s so-called excesses. Another common talking point is&nbsp;<a href="https://www.history.com/news/industrial-revolution-negative-effects">that the workforce suffered greatly from the Industrial Revolution</a>, and it was&nbsp;<a href="https://time.com/5663465/labor-day-union-history/">only through the rise of unions that the labor market diversified</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.americanprogress.org/article/how-unions-are-crucial-for-building-working-class-economic-power/#:~:text=Union%20workers%20benefit%20from%20collective,prominent%20for%20the%20working%20class.">living standards improved</a>, and the labor market thrived. However, none of these statements are true, as Nobel Prize-winning economist F. A. Hayek discusses in his 1954 book&nbsp;<a href="https://mises.org/library/book/capitalism-and-historians"><em>Capitalism and the Historians</em></a>.</p><div class="Hdbdqr5n"><ul className="ifwTextAd"><li><a href="https://www.givesendgo.com/savealex"><p>URGENT! <p>Hayek sets the record straight regarding the effects of the so-called “Robber Barons” on American labor markets during the Gilded Age. Many contemporary historians argue that&nbsp;<a href="https://fastercapital.com/content/Exploitation--Unveiling-the-Exploitative-Practices-of-Robber-Barons.html">wealthy industrialists exploited the poor through industrial centralization, forcing urban workers to work for multimillion-dollar corporations that were intent on exploiting their labor</a>&nbsp;(false claims that we often find in many modern classroom textbooks). They also claim that these corporations coerced rural populations to move to crowded, polluted cities for work, leaving them worse off. However,&nbsp;<a href="https://fee.org/articles/a-myth-shattered-mises-hayek-and-the-industrial-revolution/">Hayek reveals that this is far from the truth</a>. While the consolidation of industry did lead to spikes in the labor market and increased productivity, there is no correlation between this and corporate exploitation.</p>



<p>The Industrial Revolution did not result in the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer due to “capitalist oppression”. In fact, the generation of wealth was a result of a symbiotic relationship between the emerging industrial labor market and innovative industrialists. While the industrialists did become richer at a faster rate than the average laborer,&nbsp;<a href="https://fee.org/resources/the-industrial-revolution-working-class-poverty-or-prosperity/">unskilled workers also experienced significant increases in wealth due to the industrial economy</a>.</p>



<p>The mass exodus of poor rural farmers to urban industrial centers was voluntary. Life in the countryside was more difficult and dangerous compared to urban life. The growing labor markets in major cities attracted rural folk, as there was a rise in demand for unskilled laborers. These workers were&nbsp;<a href="https://mises.org/mises-daily/popular-and-wrong-interpretation-industrial-revolution">often taken care of by the firms that employed them</a>.</p><div class="XeSLpzuj"><div id="ifwAd"></div></div>



<p><a href="https://fee.org/articles/the-curse-of-machinery/">New technological breakthroughs</a>&nbsp;led to an increase in consumer demand and mass production. This incentivized the capitalist class to hire new workers on a large scale. Working for these firms provided financial security that exceeded what the rural poor had access to. Thus, the expanding labor demand&nbsp;<a href="https://mises.org/mises-daily/redeeming-industrial-revolution">offered liberation</a>&nbsp;from the hardships of rural living. Long story short, the reality of the situation is that the captains of industry and the ordinary bourgeoisie were responsible for laying the foundations for the diverse job market we have today.</p>



<p>While labor unions played a&nbsp;<em>minor</em>&nbsp;role in improving working conditions and the wellbeing of workers, the impact of private industry&nbsp;<a href="https://mises.org/mises-wire/henry-ford-did-more-workers-unions-did">far outweighed</a>&nbsp;that of the labor movement. Early labor unions were generally hostile towards the growth of the industrial labor market and implemented barriers of entry to protect their own interests,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/serials/files/cato-journal/2010/1/cj30n1-4.pdf">discriminating particularly on the basis of race and religion.</a>&nbsp;Labor unions were reactionary in nature, a backlash against the progress of the Industrial Age. For example, organized labor largely&nbsp;<a href="https://mises.org/free-market/union-myth">opposed</a>&nbsp;technological innovations that would ultimately benefit both worker safety and economic productivity. The policies they pushed for&nbsp;<a href="https://mises.org/mises-wire/how-unions-reduce-real-wages">reduced the real wages</a>&nbsp;of their members. They initially opposed concepts like the five-day workweek and company benefits, wanting to control the conditions themselves, as well as&nbsp;<a href="https://mises.org/free-market/how-labor-unions-hurt-workers">restrict</a>&nbsp;the labor supply.</p>



<p>Workplace conditions and benefits improved before unions actively endorsed them. The labor laws passed by Congress in the first half of the 20th century had little impact, as many private businesses had already banned exploitative practices. Businesses recognized that treating employees well led to increased productivity and economic growth.
