A Few Thoughts on the Coup in Honduras

There is a lot of great analysis circulating on the military coup against Manuel Zelaya in Honduras. I do not see a need to re-invent the wheel. (See here here here and here). However, a few key things jump out at me. First, we know that the coup was led by Gen. Romeo Vasquez, a graduate of the US Army School of the Americas. As we know very well from history, these “graduates” maintain ties to the US military as they climb the military career ladders in their respective countries. That is a major reason why the US trains these individuals.
Secondly, the US has a fairly significant military presence in Honduras. Joint Task Force-Bravo is located at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras. The base is home to some 550 US military personnel and more than 650 US and Honduran civilians:
They work in six different areas including the Joint Staff, Air Force Forces (612th Air Base Squadron), Army Forces, Joint Security Forces and the Medical Element. 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, a US Army South asset, is a tenant unit also based at Soto Cano. The J-Staff provides command and control for JTF-B.
The New York Times reports that “The unit focuses on training Honduran military forces, counternarcotics operations, search and rescue, and disaster relief missions throughout Central America.”
Significantly, according to GlobalSecurity, “Soto Cano is a Honduran military installation and home of the Honduran Air Force.”

The head of the Air Force, Gen. Luis Javier Prince Suazo, studied in the School of the Americas in 1996. The Air Force has been a central protagonist in the Honduran crisis. When the military refused to distribute the ballot boxes for the opinion poll, the ballot boxes were stored on an Air Force base until citizens accompanied by Zelaya rescued them. Zelaya reports that after soldiers kidnapped him, they took him to an Air Force base, where he was put on a plane and sent to Costa Rica.
It is impossible to imagine that the US was not aware that the coup was in the works. In fact, this was basically confirmed by The New York Times in Monday’s paper:
As the crisis escalated, American officials began in the last few days to talk with Honduran government and military officials in an effort to head off a possible coup. A senior administration official, who briefed reporters on the condition of anonymity, said the military broke off those discussions on Sunday.
While the US has issued heavily-qualified statements critical of the coup—in the aftermath of the events in Honduras—the US could have flexed its tremendous economic muscle before the coup and told the military coup plotters to stand down. The US ties to the Honduran military and political establishment run far too deep for all of this to have gone down without at least tacit support or the turning of a blind eye by some US political or military official(s).
Here are some facts to consider: the US is the top trading partner for Honduras. The coup plotters/supporters in the Honduran Congress are supporters of the “free trade agreements” Washington has imposed on the region. The coup leaders view their actions, in part, as a rejection of Hugo Chavez’s influence in Honduras and with Zelaya and an embrace of the United States and Washington’s “vision” for the region. Obama and the US military could likely have halted this coup with a simple series of phone calls. In November, Zelaya hailed Obama’s election in the U.S. as “a hope for the world,” but just two months later tensions began to emerge. In an audacious letter sent personally to Obama, Zelaya accused the U.S. of “interventionism” and called on the new administration in Washington to respect the principle of non-interference in the political affairs of other nations.

This WAS NOT A COUP……. it was ok’ed by the high court of Honduras, The Pres. was trying to go against the thier Constitution and he was removed…..as it should be. maybe we should follow thier lead….?

Of course this was a coup. The Constitution and Honduran laws have a procedure for impeachment. The Honduran President was removed by force in violation of the Constitution the ousters claim to be defending. This double talk is like saying you condemn the coup when in fact you support it; and knew it was on the way and did nothing to prevent it.
The “it was not a coup” campaign comes from the usual NWO operatives.

Would impeachment work right now in the US? No, it wouldn’t. There aren’t enough people in either house to demand it or push it through.
Sometimes a physical removal from office is the necessary action to bring about immediate results, so the country can regroup and get back on course. Call it a coup, an uprising, whatever you like. The people were protecting themselves from this Obama like individual in the Honduras.

Mostly all systems around the world are set to favor the elite. If it suits the elite, impeachment will work in the US anytime. Should Obama go against the agenda of his handlers, he will can certainly be impeached for passing a red light.
The solution is to empower voters as much as possible. For example, in the State of California the governor’s mandate can be revoked by means of a referendum. In Venezuela this also referendum also exists. In Bolivia a 60% of the vote is necessary. The President of Honduras has proposed future presidents, congressmen, district attorneys, supreme justices be subjected to this referendum. Since we know legislators worldwide are sell outs to the elites, this would be against their agenda. In fact anything that empowers voters is against them.
The Honduran elites own petroleum based power generation. Power companies are parasites that feed on 20% of the annual budget. Leonine clauses established by the sell out Congress have granted these companies huge benefits and prices at the expense of the people. The first referendum to be carried out would be to cancel these contracts. That would certainly hurt the elite oligarchy. Another referendum would approve the contracts for the construction of hydroelectric plants Congress refuses to approve.
In the US this could have been used to pull from Iraq or to stop the bailouts. Any highly unpopular measure would be hard to implement. I am not proposing a change in the US Constitution, I know this is extremely hard to accomplish; and it may be used to strip the 1st 2nd or 10th amendments.
You can be 99.99% sure, that coups are vast conspiracies everywhere. Uprisings, need popular support and are repressed. Coups and uprisings are not the same. We had a coup in Honduras on Sunday. An uprising has followed, demanding respect to the Constitution.
The ousters have defiled the Constitution on the excuse of defending it against an imaginary hypothetical future threat. By thy fruits ye shall be known.

From what I know of this, the referendum that Mel was trying to push was a referendum to change the Constitution to allow him to run for more than one term in office. His term would have ended in 2010. From what I have been told by people more knowledgable on Constitutional matters than I, there are three parts of the constitution that cannot be changed, everything else is fair game. Presdential term limits are said to be in one of those three sections. Since the Congress wasn’t willing to print ballots for this referendum, Mel got Hugo to print them in Venezuela instead. Those ballots were shipped in and the military refused to distribute those ballots. Mel fired the top military commander, Vásquez Velásquez, and the Supreme Court ordered Mel to reinstate him. Mel refused, got a mob to enter the military facility where Hugo’s ballots were being kept, and had his supporters start distributing them. The Supreme Court ruled this referendum unconstitutional, and Mel went through with it anyway. It was THEN that the military was sent in to arrest the President. It was said that Mel had a choice: either accept exile, or face the courts and possible imprisonment for violating the Constitution. Mel’s currently in Costa Rica, and he denies he was given such an ultimatum.
Are we to believe that this “coup” is an effort to wrest control of the country from a freedom loving President? Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and Hillary Clinton all would have us believe such things.

Seems like what some of you might call a “beta test”. *gasp* Military officers standing up for Constitutional law in defiance of a would-be tyrannical president-dictator in Honduras? Say it ain’t so! Even as the U.S. govt sinks further into Socio-Fascism and inevitable despotism.

I know from personal experience that Central and South America soldiers are taught in the School of Americas to respect and follow theer countries established law. Does not always work when people get power they never had, a common human fault.
What is surprising is that the Army did what the court and congress said to do and not the President which is a new twist in these countries.
The first legal document of the USA the Declaration of Independence (DI) sets a president for us to remove a corrupt or tyrannical government when and if the people get fed up enough. Like the DI said most of the time humans wait hoping things will correct themselves but there comes a time that they have to act!
I think Honduras acted before waiting to long.
How about us here in the USA how long will we wait?

Most of you are a bunch of fucking idiots. You think that every single goverment is part of the new world order. If that was true why have they not already taken over. You think everyone on t.v. is nwo. The thing about this whole thing is that dude is standing with chu chu chavez(such a fat ass) and you act like old chavee is a good guy standing against nwo. Zelaya is a bad dude trying to force his way into kingship in a country the typically only has a executive serve for one term. He tried to violate the constitution of the nation he was leading and was demanded out by the supreme court of honduras. I only wish we would bounce these idiots in office now, far chance but always wishing.
