Now, nearly five years after its role in one of the world’s biggest human rights abuse scandals, Iraq’s Abu Ghraib jail has re-opened with a promise of decent conditions for inmates – including a gym, computer chatroom and hair salon.

The prison, which earned global notoriety in 2004 after US jailers filmed themselves tormenting and sexually abusing Iraqi prisoners, was shut down two years ago when America handed control of it to the new Iraqi government. Iraqi and US officials, who believed its closure would end what had become a symbolic rallying point for the anti-US insurgency, moved its inmates to another facility on the Kuwait border.
But yesterday, after a fresh lick of paint and extensive refurbishing, it officially opened its doors again, purporting to offer conditions more familiar to inmates of a prison in Scandinavia. As well as modern medical and dental facilities, there is a courtyard for visiting families that contains a children’s playground and water fountain. Inmates also have a mosque, and will be able to sew their own clothes in a small sewing factory. Mindful of its fearsome reputation, Iraqi officials in charge of the makeover have even changed its name from Abu Ghraib to Baghdad Central Prison.

Clearly, if they have good conditions, this is not one of their real camps..

Are you f*ing crazing?!?! This is in no way one of the biggest human rights scandals. You believe how the liberal press reported it and you listen to the actual prisoners from there!!! So we we were a little rough with some terrorists, racist, murders in a time of war BOO-HOO! Cry me a fucking river. AHHHHHHH!!!! i really hate prisons, i’m so sick of the lock up the clink and the hell hole.
I’ve never been, but the innocents imprisoned boils my blood. I’ve recently been charged with drug charges for some kid in my car having a joint on him. If i dont pay out the butt for a lawyer i am considered a criminal.
Never before has it been so clear for me, so clear that the evil empire searches for the innocent poor and charge them reguardless. The week i am arrested there is a front page top story in the “union leader” showing cops who will stand at hearings to get medicinal canibus legalized. The cops arresting me stated that “if i was in the state above or below us i would just recieve a ticked… LOL ” i did not laugh in unison.
My public access show is in the works and i’m looking into am radio. I will scream my dissent and air any documentaries i am legally allowed to air. ( i’m looking into that)
March 4 i attain producer status and start my RANT. JOIN the cause and start screaming .

Ahhhhhh!! I hate the prison system and this infuriates me. Explain to me why the hell we are imprisoning and running countries around the world. Our prison system is enough to make my blood boil. So many innocent people in jail for the most absurd reasons you could not even possibly fathom.

I can tell you that the living conditions are hellish! I don’t have adequate supplies of hair styling products or sunscreen. The gym does not have enough towels to even wipe the equipment down between uses! To top it all off, they are not using premium rums in the mojitos!!!
