ACLU Files FOIA On Brigade Deployed in U.S.

The ACLU filed a Freedom of Information Act request under expedited processing to the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security earlier today.
“The American Civil Liberties Union today demanded information from the government about reports that an active military unit has been deployed inside the U.S. to help with ‘civil unrest’ and ‘crowd control’ – matters traditionally handled by civilian authorities,” a press release on the ACLU site explains. “This deployment jeopardizes the longstanding separation between civilian and military government, and the public has a right to know where and why the unit has been deployed, according to an ACLU Freedom of Information request filed today.”

“The military’s deployment within U.S. borders raises critical questions that must be answered,” said Jonathan Hafetz, staff attorney with the ACLU National Security Project. “What is the unit’s mission? What functions will it perform? And why was it necessary to deploy the unit rather than rely on civilian agencies and personnel and the National Guard? Given the magnitude of the issues at stake, it is imperative that the American people know the truth about this new and unprecedented intrusion of the military in domestic affairs.”
The latest request falls on the heels of an FOIA filed on October 17 with the Justice Department and the National Security Agency. The previous request demands the agencies disclose “any policies and procedures” that protect Americans’ privacy rights when the NSA “collects, stores and disseminates private U.S. communications.” As Melissa Goodman, a staff attorney with the ACLU’s National Security Project, noted, “the American public needs to know whether the NSA’s procedures are sufficiently protective of our privacy rights. Unfortunately, there is often no meaningful court oversight of the NSA’s surveillance activities and the NSA is left to police itself.”
Earlier this year, Siobhan Gorman of The Wall Street Journal reported on the specifics of the NSA’s “driftnet” surveillance efforts. Paul Kiel, writing for TPM Muckraker, provided the following summary of that system:
Here’s the way the whole thing works, according to Gorman: into the NSA’s massive database goes data collected by the Justice Department, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Treasury. This information includes data about email (recipient and sender address, subject, time sent), internet searches (sites visited and searches conducted), phone calls (incoming and outgoing numbers, length of call, location), financial information (wire transfers, credit-card use, information about bank accounts), and information from the DHS about airline passengers.
Then the NSA’s software analyzes this data for indications of terrorist activity. When it hits upon a suspicious pattern, the NSA “feeds its findings into the effort the administration calls the Terrorist Surveillance Program and shares some of that information with other U.S. security agencies.”
The so-called Terrorist Surveillance Program is nothing short of a resurrection of the Pentagon’s Total Information Awareness program, which was allegedly de-funded by Congress after details became public. Instead, it was rolled into NSA and is now classified. The NSA driftnet, according to Gorman, has a budget of $1 billion.
It is important to note that data collected by way of the NSA’s lavishly funded driftnet is fed into a database shared by “other U.S. security agencies,” no doubt including Northern Command with an active military unit — tasked with “civil unrest” and “crowd control” duties — at its disposal.

In January, 2007, the ACLU received documents through FOIA indicating that the Pentagon, under its domestic surveillance program, had monitored at least 186 antiwar protests in the United States and collected more than 2,800 reports involving Americans in a single anti-terrorism database. The Pentagon said they were spying on domestic antiwar and peace groups and compiling data in order to detect threats against military installations. A Pentagon unit known as Counterintelligence Field Activity, or CIFA, organized by Donald Rumsfeld after September 11, 2001, was created specifically for this purpose (see Walter Pincus, Pentagon’s Intelligence Authority Widens, the Washington Post, December 19, 2005). In April of this year, CIFA supposedly fell, a victim of bad publicity thanks to yet another ACLU FOIA. As it turns out, CIFA had not only abused National Security Letters, but managed TALON, a database that included information about antiwar protests planned at churches, schools and Quaker meeting halls.

CIFA also hosted the Joint Protection Enterprise Network, or JPEN, according to research conducted by the Agonist. JPEN allows DoD employees to enter “nonvalidated domestic threat information,” that is to say “anything and everything that someone thinks is suspicious.” General Richard B. Myers, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave a speech on May 11, 2004, and said JPEN was
relatively cheap; it was also off-the-shelf software that was modified. It was born Joint from the beginning. It took 90 days to get from the idea to a prototype and another 60 days to get 30 bases and headquarters equipped. NORTHCOM operates it. I think we need to continue that type of information sharing outside the military; it’s got to go beyond just military installations.
On the day after Meyers made this comment, he told the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations the Northcom JPEN “network provides the means to share unclassified force protection information rapidly between military installations in the Continental United States, increasing their situational awareness and security significantly. Although currently operating only on military installations, JPEN has the potential to be expanded to share terrorist information with Federal, State and local agencies as well.”
As noted above, the Pentagon and the NSA are more interested in monitoring antiwar and peace groups than actual terrorists. The fact Northcom is running a domestic “threat assessment” database populated with data on antiwar activists should send up a big time red flag. This is particularly ominous considering the deployment of a Iraq battle hardened brigade domestically.
It now appears the the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security — and we can only assume local law enforcement as well, as Meyers suggested back in 2006 — are sharing a “threat assessment” and terrorist database. How long before actionable information is passed down to the brigade level?
Hopefully, the ACLU’s FIOA will turn up more information on the emerging police state control grid going online. Unfortunately, we are but one “terrorist event” away from this system being used to identify, track, trace, and round up the opposition. If we are to believe Joe Biden, Colin Powell, and Madelaine Albright, this event may happen as soon as the end of January, 2009.

This is definitely a departure from our original Constitutional inent of the GVT of the United States. why is our present GVT so reluctant to explain their reasons and mainatin a hidden plan from the US citizen they supposedly serve?
Do we have a GVt of the People in the US any longer? October 3rd vote on the “bailout” of which we will never see the $700B we will never feel the impact of except from taxation will tell….

By the time the FOIA request produces some heavily redacted government documents I think we’ll all have a real good idea what the 1st BCT is being deployed for (and it AIN’T “humanitarian aid”).
Connect the dots people…mass arrests (roundups) by DHS/ICE of “illegal immigrants” (in preparation for mass arrests of citizens), “watch lists” compiling a dossier of potential enemies, troops deployed in US, local cops being “coordinated” with DHS and other Federal agencies (the cops here in Washington State were federally deputized two years ago), all “law enforcement” units being standardized into black armor clad storm troopers…etc. etc. etc.
The time for sitting and hoping for the best is OVER the writing is on the wall, the Federal Government has declared WAR on the people. Are we going to wait until they start the mass roundups and/or killings before we do something?

I am happy that a brigade of our troops got to come home and that they survived Iraq and lived to tell about it. Let them stand here with us at demonstrations and rallys but don’t let them raise a hand against the American people. Don’t let our army violate constitutional law and in turn do not show disrespect for our soldiers and let no American soldier deny any American the right to assemble or the right to freedom of speech as this would be an act of treason.

What is “constitutional law,” whatever the DOJ or Bush’s lawyer says it is? Iraq is dangerous because we are there. Do you know why the world hates us? Because of Israel. Talk to the sailors of the U.S.S. Liberty and their families, and ask them about the respect Israel has for our soldiers and the U.S. Constitution.
I’m also sick of hearing about the “ominous [] Iraq battle hardened brigade.” It’s less than 5,000 men and it has not been in battle. There are plenty of men who fought in real battles in Vietnam and they are not old men. Remember that.

completely off point but here goes. I have been an avid downloader of alexs shows for a few years now. Most of the things within the political realm of american political dominance and foreign policy i can agree with alex on, while most of the secret society, freemasonry and lucifarean stuff i ignore because its misleading religious hogwash and irrelevant to any rational person.
What annoys me about alex tho, is his complete disregard for any differing points of view on his pet subjects like christianity, gun control and climate change. Take for example his embarrasing interview with the zeitgeist guy peter joseph. Alex said ” i agree with about 95% of what your saying”. I assume the other 5% was josephs logical assumption the organised religion is a hoax to control the populations. Yet because alex couldnt answer josephs rationale with a better one he resorted to some contemptable tactics.
Alexs suggestions that we are influenced by 90% nature and our behavioural patterns spring from our DNA and our genetics, gives lie to the arguments that he constantly makes about the technocrats using science to have their wicked ways with us – yet here is alex using these techno arguments to defend his religious stance. Does alex not say that genetics was started by wicked nazi scientists and continued by wicked american nazi scientists?
Alexs devotion to his religion and his country also bring some resonable questions to mind. Was christianity not established by the roman emperor constantine (no doubt the illuminati of his day) to further his political aims? and is it not reasonable to consider that if christianity was an illuminist institution then it may still well be to this day? Alex Jones’ opinion on the specifics of what’s occurring might be interesting, but they are largely irrelevant.
Alex’s contribution to his audience is in the information he provides, which he, like you and I, are free to intepret as we wish
The fact is that there really is a long-standing movement to create a one-world government. This is evident most in Sarkozy’s recent call for a New Financial World Order.
And, yes, many of the Bush Adminisitration and their minions do believe in occultism, freemasonry, etc. Pointing that out does not make a person crazy. guerrila gunsmoke I do agree with some of those things about alex jones like some of his interview tactics and close mindedness concerning some isues but you have to take the best of what he does for people like us everyday. there are very few people who stand up and shout it to the rafters “I”M ON TO YOU!!!!!” on mainstream radio and to as wide an audience. nobody is perfect, least of all alex, but as an entire body of work i am extremely grateful to AJ for the eye-opening he gives on a daily basis. We will not have him for much longer i fear.

An interesting fact presents itself about the “rounding up of the opposition” referred to in the article: let’s suppose the number of folks “rounded up” is say, 250,000-300,000. How many children left without parents-how many families desroyed? (in a country where the foundational unit of society, the family, is already under attack, any further attacks on the family will weaken society even more). How many places of business generating economic activity and tax dollars left damaged or destroyed? How many more towns and counties and states thrown into bankruptcy as a result? How many teachers/educators/writers/attorneys/doctors/other health professionals/activists/workers of all kinds currently contributing to their service organizations & communities and to the overall economy “rounded up”? This would be a final and infinitely foolish death-blow to what is left of the economy- something that our enemies could have only dreamed of inflicting upon us, and it will be entirely a self-inflicted wound. David im no expert on Theosophy, nor do i care what loonies like blavatsky or bailey believed or considered to be true. History is full of fools who believed all sorts of mystical mumbojumbo or demonic gobbeldygook. I dont give the ancient Egyptians or Romans any more credence than i give those who believe that a NWO is a freemasons plot or devil worship is practiced in the white house on a nightly basis.
I am not saying that the Egyptians didnt believe in what they did, nor do i deny the theosophists the same. Im saying i dont believe in it, but more importantly im saying its not relevant.
We can debate all day the truth of the NWO, whether its influenced by demonology and whether its the driving ideology of the worlds elites, and im sure that would be a interesting conversation on the esoteric.

HERE IS AN IDEA: You can’t march on Washington DC because if you did you would have one single target for the government to hit all at once. So I propose that on December 31 ( New Years Eve ) that the American people take back there government at the state level. We the people march on and take over the capetal building in every single state all on the same day at the same time. That would take care of the army because they cant fight us all at the same time in every state. We would just have to worry about the state government. Not to mention it would be a world wide event that they couldn’t hide on the back page. So we bust down the door for visual effect, we occupy the capitol building for a period of 3, 5, 7 days what ever. The point is we shut them down on the state level for a few days. You don’t want to really have a long stand off because you want the people to stay on your side and the people that work for the state still need a pay check at the end of the week. And we’r e just making a point. That we the people have had it and in stops RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. BUT, if the government moves on it’s people in any state and I mean any state. Meaning that if they try to get us out using any kind of force at all, guns, tear gas, microwave cannon, whatever, then we burn it down all of them captil buildings in every state all at the same time. Now of course this plan needs a lot of fine tuning. but we have two months to make this happen. Hell, for all I know there might not be enough people pissed off yet. I know from personal experience that there are Demons, Me and my family (brother more often)went through hell in our house for years until we finaly found a priest that did exorcisms in the Tridentine rite. The things that went on in that house were unimaginable and terrifying. You can’t call 5 people delusional or crazy. After that we didn’t have anymore problems, but still till this day some 15 years later I have problems with fear from the unseen especially at night.

In my research I find Watson, and Nimmo’s articles to not fully disclose ALL the information and can be labeled misleading. In some case I found there claims to be outright false. They are truly trying to send a message of global conspiracy. Also have recognized that they seem to cut and paste a lot and have very little actual ‘hands on journalism’.
Yet,
If they always had good information I would have never bothered to check them. I guess it’s a positive for me and hope it has been the same for a lot of people. If not, well a whole lot of people will be truly embarrassed when the NWO is revealed.
Anyways I hope that clarified at least one persons opinion on this site. I can’t speak for the rest of them but at least that’s my interpretation…

people with common intersets thankyou for your reply. Here is my argument in a nutshell. All the significant global instruments of banking politics and military are almost without exception controlled by the USA. The World Bank, The Bank for International Settlements, The International Monetary Fund, The United Nations and NATO all exist to serve american global interests and none would exist without american domination of these institutions.
Therefore america controls these organisations not the other way around.
The vast majority of the people within these american centric organisations are american citizens. Mainly white christian males.
So when we see these global instruments being weilded to the detriment of poorer 3rd world nations such as the IMF in Africa or NATO on the borders of Russia, in the interests of the same white american christian males and the interests they serve, then it is as easy to see who is to blame and who benefits as it is to see who suffers.
This constant referencing of pseudo mythological groups such as the illuminati or the blaming of mysterious secret organisations like the bilderberg is easy to explain. The question we must ask is – what demographic is looking to blame these secret societies? The answer – white christian americans! I wonder – is there a correlation that this demographic is the same as the ones who serve the Global organisations? My conclusion is YES.
No doubt these white american christians who listen to alex and believe his arguments are only to happy to believe thats its global lucifareans who commit the disasters throughout the world and not white american christians. Because god forbid they accept any blame for the evil done in their name.

I have a solution. I think its the only way actually. All of us have to join the United States Armed Forces. This will create a problem within the problem. Bring sense to the the current troops, establish accountability in the military, & use the military’s right to not comply with corrupt sergeants or politicians. The only problem is, when martial law takes place, I heard it will always be foreign troops that will “deal” with us.
