In what appeared to be a well orchestrated plan, suspected al-Qaida militants escaped from a jail in southeastern Yemen, a security official said.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua reported armed al-Qaida militants attacked the Central Prison headquarters near the city of al-Mukalla in the Hadramout province early Wednesday.
Armed with machine guns and grenades the militants attacked the building and guards, and succeeded in releasing 10 prisoners, Xinhua said.
