Al-Qaeda Turns Assassination Narrative Into Anti-Gaddafi Propaganda

The AFP is reporting that General Younes of the rebel force cobbled together by NATO was assassinated by a pro-Gaddafi cell. This is a direct contradiction to what the National Transitional Council said last week. “A member of the rebel NTC has announced today that an officer in the security service of the February 17 Martyr’s Brigade confessed to murdering General Younes after taking him from his HQ on the Brega front Thrusday,” Stephen Morgan wrote for the Digital Journal.
Obviously, this didn’t fit the NATO narrative and did not demonize Gaddafi, so the story was changed (see AFP text below).
Younes (or Younis) was killed by al-Qaeda in a power struggle within the rebel command structure.
Last week, we reported: Many members of the February 17 Martyr’s Brigade are former fighters of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group who are linked to al-Qaeda. British Defense Secretary Liam Fox said today that the murder of Younes requires that Islamic “militants” in Libya will have to be “marginalized” when and if Gaddafi is overthrown or killed by NATO. In other words, NATO will intervene in Libya’s civil war and the war on terror against the phantom al-Qaeda will go on forever.
Libya’s rebels routed a militia group accused of assassinating their military chief and of links to Moamer Kadhafi, they said after an hours-long battle Sunday in their Benghazi stronghold.
Medics and rebels said at least four rebel and 11 pro-Kadhafi fighters were killed in the fierce shootout, which erupted around dawn during a raid on the cell holed up at a roadside factory in the eastern city.
The new narrative was related by the February 17 Martyr’s Brigade, that is to say al-Qaeda. Mustafa al-Sagazly, deputy chief of al-Qaeda in Libya (called the February 17 Martyr’s Brigade by AFP) said the “very same group” — the Katiba Yussef Shakir — was suspected in the assassination of General Abdel Fatah Yunis, a right-hand man to Kadhafi before his defection to the rebel ranks.
AFP and the American corporate media, of course, never tell you that the February 17 Martyr’s Brigade is al-Qaeda.
In Libya, al-Qaeda is on the side of NATO and the U.S. Last year’s terrorists are this year’s freedom fighters.
We are expected to simultaneously accept two mutually contradictory beliefs as correct, as usual.
George Orwell is rolling over in his grave.
