America’s Effective Unemployment Rate at 18.7%?

The numbers are staggering and are aggregates of official data. They matter because various Obama administration officials including the President himself started off calling for huge stimulus packages to help generate “jobs, jobs, jobs!”
But now, I have been hearing more and more from senior Obama economic team members about the jobs they hoped for coming at the very tail end of an economic recovery. Others are talking about a GDP recovery — but not a jobs recovery. They are admitting as well that they underestimated the severity of this recession and its impact on unemployment levels.
And all this while Goldman Sachs and other financial houses have seen their balance sheets get cleaned up and bonuses surge.
Hindery writes:
Here is a June 2009 version of the summary that calculates the Effective Unemployment Rate, which is now 18.70%, and the Effective Number of Unemployed, which is now 30,172,000.
There are currently 14,729,000 officially unemployed workers, as just announced. However, this figure does not include the combined 15,443,000 workers either (1) in the “labor force reserve” because they have abandoned their job searches (i.e., 4,278,000) or (2) underemployed because they are “part-time of necessity” (i.e., 8,989,000) or “otherwise marginally attached” (i.e., 2,176,000).
The effective unemployment rate is therefore 18.70%, instead of the official 9.51%.
Since the start of the recession in December 2007, the number of workers who are officially unemployed has increased by 7,188,000, while almost twice as many workers – 13,290,000 – have become effectively unemployed. And all the while, we should have been creating around 2,250,000 new jobs (i.e., 18 months times 125,000 jobs per month) just to keep up with population growth.
In June, the number of workers officially unemployed increased 218,000, while the number of workers effectively unemployed actually decreased 35,000.
It’s important to see the entire picture of America’s jobs profile — no matter how unpleasant.
I recognize that credit bubble related recoveries are hard to work out and are usually quite slow — with job growth at the back end. This all makes sense — but with Christina Romer out raising expectations again with giddy talk predicting a V-shaped recovery and given the “jobs, jobs, jobs” mantra of President Obama himself — the gap between the job figures expected and the disappointing economic realities generated may be politically consequential.

Sadly this is almost certainly the case.
During most of the 19th century America had no central bank and no income tax. A superpower was built during that time.
At the beginning of the 20th century, treasonous politicians that had been employed by international bankers, instituted a central bank and income tax.
Today’s economic prospects are the result. The next scene in the play: The failure of the US Dollar. The ensuing economic carnage will see the power brokers set up global versions of the disastrous institutions that have wrecked the United States so as to “make sure this never happens again.”
The American economy has been bled dry by the parasites in the central banks. The parasite has outgrown the host and needs a bigger body to suck upon.

I say we boycott the Alex Jones show until he clarifies or takes back what he said about gay couples adopting kids yesterday. That was something that I would expect from Mike Savage I thought Alex was more of a free thinker and believer in equality than that. I am so disapointed….anyone else? I think this was just a slimy attempt to pander to the religious bigots that tune into his show and/or provide funding, either way it was a disgusting comment that shouldn’t be allowed to slide.

We have to be cunning like our ememy we need to get a third party to counter ballance the demondcraps and repocons. and that party has to be the liberty party the one who shows our history prior to 1913 and how economy blossomed. Secondly we need our movement to grow and that could be done by word of mouth tell 5 friends reguardless of how they will react. Even if they reject the idea they know in their brain that something is wrong with the world. By giving them the clues to the truth of whats going on they will come arround to the fact that we are being taken over by thugs with suits on. I must admit at first obama had me fooled with his sweet talking I will bring change… but 99% thought he meant a change of bushes policies. Suprise he is CHANGING our countrys status as a free republic governed by the people for the people. By the time we can actualy vote him out with the coruption we may be all dead. So lets stop waiting on some one else.

Don’t even TRY criticizing Eastern Europe, the banks there require a 50% down payment AND a guaranteed income, plus savings adequate to cover living expenses, etc., in order to obtain a mortgage on a home. In other words, home foreclosures and bank failures are almost unheard of where such sensible lending policies are in effect. I know, I own two homes in Brasov and Targa Mures, Romania and there, the price of a home is climbing, not dropping like a rock. (BTW, Eastern Europe has not been communist since 1989-try to keep up, O.K.?.)

al, first if Romania and Eastern Europe is such a great place to live and so much better than America…don’t let the door hit you on the backside as you leave! Since you are at least trying to compare the standard of living between the US and Eastern Europe let’s be truthful.
Your giving the impression it’s better there while here it sucks which is not true. In America we,( for the time being ) still have the freedom to move within our country without first getting permission from the governement. The standard income of the adverage American is still one and half times greater than the adverage citizen in Romania.
Our taxes,( once again at this current time ) are far less than those imposed on people of the EU as well as access to the best medical treatment in the world! At least here if stricken with a terminal illness, your not given pain medication and put it on a long list for treatment given a death sentence if.
And the best reason I love this country is we have the right to own firearms to keep our Government in check if need be, and that right is about to be used! I wish it didn’t have to be this way, but I believe it cann’t be any other way. And last if you don’t live here…keep to your own buisness as we will keep out of your’s!

I was in pursuit of a beautiful Romanian woman a few years back…According to her (a mother of one), if a woman has a baby, she gets 3 YEARS of maternity leave (because the government recognizes the 1st 3 years of life as the most important formative years) and she returns to her job. Here in the US, a woman is lucky to get a month!

1. People who get put on the unemployed list are only on it for something like 6 weeks for statistical reasons. 2. if a town had a million jobs, but half of them were employed with two part time jobs and the other half was completely jobless the unemployment rate wouldn’t be captured right in statistics. 3. Why just unemployment? why not also look at % of underemployed and % living below poverty?
The unemployment rate is about double what they report at any time. This checks out since MSM claims it’s around 9 or 10. Isn’t it ironic that we elected Obama during a recession and he told us that it would be because of HIS spending that we could recover? Now after all his spending things are getting even worse. Isn’t that ironic?

Many public servents are good people. If Martial Law were decalred, many would not participate and some would actively oppose it. Having said that, there is a core of Fascist bloodlusters who would love nothing more than to dawn their jackboots and bash heads.
Ken Welch has written he thinks about half the Army would go along with a nuclear false flag attack to get the bombing and nuclear attack on Iran off the ground.
If martial Law is declared or a lesser version of it becomes more overt, they do not need much more of the Armed Forces or even the police for control.
The major problem for them is the States’ Legislatures and Governors.

If unemployment is as high or higher than they say, I would think that the government should be very afraid of its people right now. Now that a large percentage are out of work and have nothing better to occupy their minds with (ie. working all day long, going home stressed and vegging in front of the tv) they have more time to learn about what the government is really up to. To educate themselves through Alex and others as to the state of the nation they are living in. Now is the perfect time to gather and make a stand. With nothing better to do with our unemployed time, why not waste it with purpose and fight back against govt oppression.

ALEX just announced that Pratt and Montag would be back on the show again today. Spencer Pratt acted like a jerk on that reality show he and his wife was on. He’s no media darling. And I think a mistake to have him on the show. On the other hand, why not just have Heidi Montag on alone so she could talk about her thougts on the NWO? She’s the “star” if you can call her that. Her husband is a hanger on and is going to be the reason her career completely flops. I think having guests like Spencer Pratt on AJ show cheapens it. As for the unemployment rate, I just heard Fox news radio pitch it as being high at 9.5 % as high as it was in the early 80’s. They lie of course – we are in far worse shape.

I’m making a statement by not seeing Bruno. I heard Cohen sets up Ron Paul. I noticed in Borat he made Alan Keyes, Bob Barr, and the whole Bush family look bad. For this reason, I think Cohen is probably a democrat who is trying to make the right wing look foolish. I’m going to see the movie eventually–but not in theatres. I loved the ali g show and Borat but I will not put money in Cohen’s pocket if he has some kind of agenda to attack the right. By the way, I don’t belong to a party but I really like Dr. Paul. If Cohen wants to make a statement he should punk Obama!

Under government guidelines established under Cheney/Bush, if you work 1 hour per week and are paid for that work, you are grouped together the same as those FULLY employed. Once your unemployment benefits run out, you are not counted anywhere. Unless it is in the welfare figures, which Obama refuses to disclose, along with a reliable number of those under- employed.
This will be a jobless recovery. Been saying it for a year now.

Sorry people but the movie theaters are still packed, restaurants are busy (2 new ones a couple miles from my house), people still going to best buy, the lakes are busy with boats, traffic still shitty in the morning cus people are going to work, and when I have a day off I can tell you that 20% of my neighbors are not sitting at home.

I’m on the east coast, Altoona PA to be exact, not far from Pittsburgh. And it’s pretty scary because nothing has seemed to change, now mind you theres no heavy industry left in Altoona other than the Railroad and the towns full of strip malls, restaraunts, and Drs. offices. Every place is packed, the malls, restaraunts, movie theaters. Unemployment in the county hasn’t moved much, still at roughly 6%. I work at a Mack/Volvo Truck Dealership and we’re booming 12 mechanics, 5 parts guys, 1 outside salesman. No ones buying new trucks but everyones fixing what they have. The oufit I work for has 10 Mack/Volvo Dealerships throughout PA and from what I hear the whole company is busy. I pray everyday all this turns around for everyone and things start looking up, but I believe as long as Obomba and his cronies are chopping away at the working man and the middle class it won’t be long till my area gets hit with what alot of areas are dealing with. I wish every one of you and your families the best.

Then you are doing much better than most. I used to deal with alot of truck dealers. The days of the individual dealers are pretty much gone. They have been bought out or forced out by the big multi unit dealers. I know one dealership in the south, that has 18 bays and 3 mechancis left, down from 20+, 2 parts guys down from 8 or so. They dont even buy parts, they strip them off a brand new truck sitting in the lot. Or they will just order the 1 part needed at the time.
Other dealers parts are doing OK, so they say, but no new or even used truck sales at all.
Much depends on where you are. But be thankful you have a job and are not in NEW truck sales trying to make a living. Or thankfully you aren’t driving one trying to make a living. I know Swift recently had 42 lease drivers turn in their keys and walk away in one day. Lack of freight and/or the rates are so low they can’t make any money. The big box stores are refusing to pay anywhere near a decent rate to haul their imported Chinese crap. In todays world, the big box stores rule. The bigger will only get bigger, the individual business owners are on the way out.

Yeah, It may depend on where you live and the type of job you have. I k now here in Texas, there are jobs, but for minimum wage. I know a guy that put in a ad for a $8.00 per hour job, part time only, he had over 100 phones calls in just the first hour. A truck driver friend, hauling for a major carrier, had to quit, no freight, he wasnt even clearing $300 a week being on the road 3-4 weeks at a time living out of his truck and away from his family. 2 friends in construction over 20 years each, phones haven’t rung in 2 months, there is no work. My business of 16 years is dead. Maybe 1 or 2 calls a month down from 20-25 a year ago. I am looking for work also, nothing there.
If you are 50+ you have most likely have seen your last good paycheck. Depending on your specialty. Of the estimated 10 MILLION jobs lost in the last 18 months, most, over 50% will probably never return. They will be outsourced to a 3rd world country.
Best buy recently reported dismal earnings for the last quarter. 2 restaurants close to me recently closed down. The one restaurant that only caters to the rich is still open selling 8 oz. filet mignons for $40.00. ala carte. You want a salad,extra, drink, thats extra too. Packed on the weekends, empty during the week.
Just depends on whose ox is being gored.

Yes I wait till California’s unemployment rate hits 35 percent within 2 years. This will hopefully start the armed revolt against the U.S. Government. i really enjoy the people that the show presents. there is very informative information on this program. what disappoints me is that so many people truly believe that alex is a man of principles and sacrificing for the greater good and sacrificing himself financially.

The mission and purpose of the militia have not changed. What has changed is the status of the organized militia. Here is something for the number crunchers to think about, if close to twenty percent of the population is out of work, what do they have time to do? They think about how they have been screwed over by the banks, and by the government. The banks because they signed their name to that piece of paper called a contract and now their adjustable mortgage rate went from that 5% loan to a 12% loan.
They think of the government because to the South, the border has not been secured, and thousand of Mexicans and Central Americans cross the border. They bring nothing with them but cheap labor, and disease. Your children cannot even get a summer time job now at McDonalds because their skin is not brown enough. If you think I am talking about just the white kid, I am talking about the black kid too.
People think of the government because congress and senate passes TRILLION DOLLAR bills to stimulate the economy, but nearly 70 Million of our citizens are out of work. Does this sound like the Hope and Change that was promised to the 52% of populists who voted for Obamanism.
People continue to talk of taking back the country by force. You need to think of this. During the American Revolution, less than 10% of the population resisted the tyrannical rule of King George. There were only 2,500,000 people in North America at that time. Of that number, over 500,000 were black slaves or working as freemen in the Northern cities, (that’s 20% of the population). The Continental Army only fielded 24,000 troops to fight the British, Hessians, and other mercenaries that King George sent. What is forgotten here is that the number of the citizen militia numbered around 40,000 in both the North and Southern fronts of the war. Britain was fighting across the sea, and away from supply. The Colonials were fighting at home, knew the lay of their land and knew why they were fighting.
Today, either you have 10% of the people on the left or right that are hard liners, and the other 80% that just want to be left alone and raise their children. Well that 10% is 35 million people, 20% percent is 70 million people. Now if there are 80 million people that are gun owners prior to the Hope and Change administration of Sotero/Biden, and since the last election enough armament and ammunition has flown off the shelves to supply both the Chinese and Indian armies. What do you think this administration is expecting.
I can tell you this right now, if you have 70 million people out of work and they rise up in the streets of America, no law enforcement agency, no National Guard, none of our extended military can put down such an insurrection. The only way that such an action of the American people CAN be defeated is to detonate a nuclear bomb in those large cities where the insurrection is occurring. When the American citizens see a pillar of smoke from one of the twenty largest cities in American, they will all tuck tail and run back to their homes like a beat down dog.
You can continue to talk this nonsense of using force, but as a former police officer now retired I can tell you this, I always used greater force than what I was met with. This is how the government will respond to such actions. Mark my word. Happy 4th of July!

why dont we just do citizens arrest? we have the right to do them, as long as the person or persons are 100% guilty and we all know they are guilty.. we should go down to DC and serve citizens arrest. only 2 options we have is overthrowing the government (violent or non violent), or citizens arrest. we must act now to restore america!!!!!!!!

The State of California is currently issuing IOU’s to all it’s Creditors and Municipal Employees and Pensioners in lieu of actual monetary pay checks. In the light of this FISCAL INSANITY however the State still has some REAL money socked away to toss at supporting the Staples Center to facilitate a memorial service for MJ the drug addicted freak boylover. IF THAT DOES NOT MAKE YOUR HEAD SPIN AND YOUR BLOOD BOIL THEN NOTHING WILL!!! Truly the State of Ca is now a State of Bread-and-Circuses. UTTER COMPLETE TOTAL INSANITY !!

In Washington DC, the answer to the unemployment is tens of millions of more illegals streaming into the country.

I’m afraid there is NO hope for America and her future. What makes a country unoque and dynamic are it’s people. Americans today are sheeple and a pathetic lot. All the outrages that we tolerated and /or ignored during the Bush years would be cause for riots and even a revolution in any country on earth! Current example: Iran. People willing to die to protest a stolen election! What the hell did we do in 2000 and 2004? Nothing!

The book of Daniel & Revelation refer to a peace agreement with Israel for 7 years ruled by the anti-Christ. Jesus referred to the last 3 1/2 years as Great Tribulation. Research the ENPI with Israel that began 01/01/07 that could make the GT starting next year!
