The figure far outstrips the 7 billion to 10 billion rounds sold in a typical year, The Washington Post reported Monday. The spike in sales began when people started to take seriously warnings from the gun lobby that with Democrats controlling the White House and Congress there would be new restrictions on gun ownership, the newspaper said.
As consumers stepped up purchases, supplies tightened, prices went up and a shortage developed. The shortage has begun to ebb and gun-control advocates are expressing concern about the record amount of stockpiled ammunition, the Post said.

DU ammo is used for 30mm guns and tank armour piercing rounds.
You can not use either.
There are no DU ammo for small weapons, like rifles.
It is extremely dangerous, since it contaminates area.

No way I expect to live long enough to use up 25,000+ rounds of ammo. (Keeping the economy ‘in the black’ one case of ammo at a time!) I don’t expect to get off more than a few ‘good’ shots before they take me out. You guys are welcome to come over and have the rest of my guns/ammo when I go.

I try to keep 1,000 rounds per weapon ( I have about 2,500 for my .22lr)…I am never sure how much is enough. I just keep buying when I can. Just added a laser/flashlight combo to my Pardner Protector (Rem 870 clone).

Listen up all you shot gunners. Slugs down a rifled barrel work quite well. But here is a new twist for you.
Reload your empties with flechettes which can be found at the gun shows cheep. The flechette will penetrate kevlar like a ice pick. They are like little arrows about 1 in. long and the diameter of a pencil lead with fletching (feathers) to stablize. Very scary and very very effective. They can be coated in rat poison (coumadin) an anti clotting agent, when struck, the target will bleed profusely from a relatively small wound and it may be terminal from one flechette.

Model 500A? I’ve got a mossy as well. I’ve put thousands of shells of all types through it (bird, buck, slugs, bird bombs, etc) and I have never done anything more to clean it than a barrel bore brushing once in awhile and some WD-40 in the exchange assembly. It has never given me a single problem – the ULTIMATE defensive firearm.

People are worried about being able to protect themselves and their family. Remember back when California outlawed assault rifles and told everyone who had one to turn it in? A grand total of seven idiots actually did. A friend works in a plumbing supply store. Every time a new story about proposed gun control appears in the news; their sales of 6″ & 8″ diameter PVC sewer pipe in 4′ to 5′ lengths with two end caps goes right through the roof. Americans are NOT going to peacefully give up their firearms.
Every family should have, at a bare minimum, a high quality semi-auto .22 cal. rifle and 1,000 rounds of ammo. Buy used if you have to, but have one. A 12 gauge pump-action shotgun with a hunting barrel and a shorter home defense barrel is also a good choice.

Rifles are EFFECTIVE. Handguns are a weapon of last resort or even desperation. Learn to use long arms out to 500 yards. Join the Appleseed project and take some classes. Pick up the appropriate rifle and start competing in F-Class. Relying on a handgun is a surefire way to get killed.

That particular round was developed to shoot squirrels with. It doesn’t have enough energy to be assured of a kill on anything bigger than a coyote.
If you buy a rifle for resistance purposes in North America it should be a .30 caliber, either .308 Winchester or .30-06 Springfield. .30-06 is the single most popular hunting round in North America so that would be the option that I suggest because ammo is even more abundant here.

I don’t know whether you’re just an idiot or what, but i’m more than 75% sure you’ve never been in live combat. i’ve seen FIRSTHAND, human lives being blinked out of existence at ranges past 600 yards with a Designated Marksmen Rifle, chambered in 223, and shooting a 77gr Sierra Matchking boat-tailed hollowpoint. we’re talking bodies that didn’t twitch, or yell…just drop. i’ve also seen the 55gr XM193 punch one-shot kills numerous times through automotive glass and the like. you’re arguement makes you sound like a guy who has alot of bolt-action rifles, and wishes he had an AR. please leave the real “shop-talk” to those of us who actually work in the shop.

Hey BEEN THERE. Maybe you have, and no I haven’t. I got out before 9/11 and was smart enough not to re-enlist, just didn’t feel right. I have only the experience of those that I know that have, which doesn’t include you.
For those wondering the favorite weapon of my buddies from the sandbox was a D9 CAT on loan from the Israelies, followed VERY closely by the Browning M2 and the 240G. But why use bullets to clear a building when knocking it down is so much faster, and the odds of getting shot WAY lower.
As for your bullet selection for the pop gun, I can’t honestly comment. But I can say that if you are limited to just one bullet to be at all effective you’re f---ed when all that you can find is FMJ.
With a .30 caliber the FMJ is good enough already, and anything else is gravy.

.223 is just fine for average shooters out to 300 yards. 4X -Scoped, off-hand to 400 yards and in the right hands out further. And, they are light and have almost NO recoil so the little lady can join in the extermination of the rodents.
Rounds are light too. here in Tennessee, they are especially good due to hills and brushy terrain.
.270 deer rifles have scarcer ammo but do good out to 600 yards. As for snipers, they are a threat to you up to a mile away if they have .50 cals. But, somehow I gotta feeling the Army will not be siding with the globalists. Foreign troops definitely until their quick extermination. Just imagine some NATO force strafing somebody’s neighborhood and the reprisals.

My post referenced the words “bare minimum” as they relate to family requirements for any kind of security. I think that Ben perhaps misunderstood me.
You are absolutely right about the superiority of a rifle to a pistol jarhead. Many folks in today’s sad economy can’t afford a $500.00 – $1,000.00 pistol, but most everyone can afford a
Ruger 10/22 rifle. A pistol may enable you to fight your way to your rifle in you don’t already have it in hand.
I really don’t think that the action is going to be out there at 500 yards in the urban setting that most of us live in. I figure 50 – 100 yards max. An AK-47 is reasonably accurate out there to 200 – 250 yards, is damn near indestructable, costs 1/3 the price of an AR-15 and the ammo is a hell of a lot cheaper. You can still pick up a reasonable quality AK-47 for around $500.00.

Mad Markie, Most of you have not probably heard of High Point. Its made right here in America. Ohio to be exact. It comes with a life time warrenty. And my 45cal cost me $175.00. Just this past year. I think they are up to about $225 now, but go to Highpoint. com and check them out. It is a big gun but if I run out of rounds I could beat someone to death with it.

Dave, those body counts weren’t racked up with either the M4/M16Awhatever or the SAW. Those come from either arty/airstrike, mah-deuce, or other heavy weapons fire.
As the son of one of those Vietnam vets you mentioned, specifically a combat medic, I got an early education in how useless .223 is. Specifically my fathers stories about not hitting people at ranges best measured in feet because the leaves deflected the 50-60gr bullets were my favorite.
My buddies coming back from Falujah(once a Marine, yadda yadda) also confirmed what I had long suspected about the round – it’s useless against masonry. I already knew that it’s useless against a enemy in trees. The 150gr 7.62 Nato rounds however chew concrete and brick up, and for me 150gr is a LIGHT bullet. For a .308 go with a 175gr and for a .30-06 a 190gr.
As an 03bulletsponge I got first hand hatred for the AR platform in all of it’s variations, even ones chambered for a decent round. If you prefer a semi auto, go with a FAL, M1A or Garand. Any one of the above can be trusted with your life.
I’m not a fan of the AK just because we are required to import cheap ammo, which is a practice that could be stopped at a moments notice from customs. It’s the same complaint I have against the nagant. Other than that they are both great rifles for their intended purpose and much better than being unarmed.

Exactly. A handgun is essential to own, but not as a primary go-to weapon. My rifle is for medium/long range while my 12 gauge is for anything closer than 50 feet (slugs buddy, slugs). My 1911 is my go-to when I run out of ammo for the other two, or of course when there might be multiple targets at very close range.

I have to agree with you on the shotgun. Me and my .308 used to be inseperable until I started to experiment with different .12 guage rounds. The shotgun is truly the most versatile firearm you can possibly own. I have dropped deer at 140 yds with my 870 with a simple 2 3/4″ slug – nothing fancy!
You can fire through a door with .12 gauge buck and never fear what ‘was’ on the other side, just keep moving!

A handgun is a weapon for close combat, and it is not effective over 10-15 yards, it is dificult to actually hit your target.
AK-47 is a good front line weapon, but not that good in urban warfare. Rifles also.
You need ingram, uzi or something like that for urban warfare, but …

Effective range for my M1A: 500 yards with iron sights against a man sized silhouette.
For the 30-06 bolt that I want? 1200 yards with 10x or better optic.
For the 1911 that I’m getting for an OH s--- moment? 75 feet.
Doesn’t take too much thinking to realize which is you best bet.

Another thing to remember, a centerfire rifle can usually defeat whatever body armor you run into. You want to do that with a handgun you’re looking at a hot loaded .44 Mag or heavier. No thanks, I’ll keep my M1A.

Listen up all you shot gunners. Slugs down a rifled barrel work quite well. But here is a new twist for you.
Reload your empties with flechettes which can be found at the gun shows cheep. The flechette will penetrate kevlar like a ice pick. They are like little arrows about 1 in. long and the diameter of a pencil lead with fletching (feathers) to stablize. Very scary and very very effective. They can be coated in rat poison (coumadin) an anti clotting/coagulation agent, when struck, the target will bleed profusely from a relatively small wound and it may be terminal from one flechette.

Stock up on things of ‘real’ value. Things you can trade, or that have ‘real’ use. IMHO, Silver will be a great store of value in the coming year(s) and you should try to put away 10% of your income each month into that. Invest into a safe, a rifle, and a CWP. At the very least, you can sell ‘new’ ammo for market value on Craigslist or trade it for food, or supplies.

What makes you think they won’t simply outlaw private ownership of gold and silver, effectively turning those “assets” into useless paperweights? A gun is true security. With it and proper training/experience, you will eat by hunting and more importantly defend yourself and your loved ones.

Trash (badly worn, no collector value) pre 1964 US silver coins; dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars, are still a reasonable buy. There is for sure going to be something that you need after TSHTF that can only be acquired through barter or a recognized medium of exchange. Pre 1964 US silver coins will be one medium of exchange that will accepted by most everyone.
Whatever you do; DON’T store anything that is valuable to you in a bank safe deposit box. One of the very first things that the government will do is to declare a ‘bank-holiday’ and open up and loot the contents of all of the bank safety deposit boxes. They did this at least once previously. They did it recently in England. The folks who weren’t criminals had a hell of a time getting their property back. They had to prove that the contents of their boxes was in fact their property and that they had acquired it honestly.
On a bit of a different note here guys and gals ~ Just exactly what is it here with all the hostility, name calling, defimation of character and the insulting of other people’s intelligence that seems to run rampant in these comment sections as of late??? Take the hydrogen peroxide and color your hair (this is so your family will not be shamed when you are shown on the news later) take the Styrofoam and make a helmet out of it, then take the foil, make a hat out of it and put it on over your helmeted head (you’re going to need it so you don’t hurt your head for the following steps): take the gasoline and chug it down, then immediately thereafter splash the muriatic acid and napalm on your face.
The helmet will come in handy so you don’t break your skull open as you land on the hard concrete floor of your mother’s basement. The peroxide will cover your true identity as the news shows your clown face on prime time.

I have an urgent message for you, more important than any message you can hear. God is Holy and cannot accept sin(honor thy mother and father…, thou shall not kill, thou shall not commit adultery, thou shall not steal, thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor, thou shall not covet..etc…Exodus 20:12-17). But God has provided a way for each to escape the lake of fire. You must admit your lost sinful condition to Him/that you’re worthy of hell, and ask Him to save you by placing complete trust in Jesus ALONE for salvation(an example in the Word of someone doing this- “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” Luke 18:13).It is not even partly by yourselves that you can be saved, but only by the merits of Jesus Christ!

Our Governator signed a new gun law in Caulifornia barring internet sales of ammo and forced finger prints of ammo buyers and a new data base for gun owners in Caulifornia. Well, you know politicians, first Governator said he wouldn’t sign it then he did. We all know about lying politicians.
This creates a mess because most good ammo needs to be purchased out of state on the internet. We have a small window here in Ca. before the law takes effect. I am stocking up.
A few words about weapons, if your not experienced and trained by now with handguns it’s to late to get any real experience. The Benelli pump shotgun in 12 gage with double ought buckshot is an affordable gun for those on a budget. Even a little old lady with a 12 gage is a formatable adversary! For you guys a good 3 ¾ inch folder is good knife to carry and is most places legal. And, it is very quiet.

Ok….where to start? I have been wathcing this site for a year now and I can say there are people on here who know what they are talking about, and there are other’s that do not have a clue! Are we heading for a second American Revolution? You bet your ass we are! Will our military do the right thing and NOT fire on U.S. people? I think they will NOT fire. Do I KNOW that DHS has it’s own little army? Hell yes. These are the people you will need to stand up to! These will be the people that will shoot at you and not think twice.
I am ex military and understand 100% what is coming down the pipe and am now ready. All you people that are looking to START this thing need to chill. There are private armies all over the government. It seems that most government agencies have some sort of at least SRT, or an outright army. I know that even Lockheed Martin, a private company, has special operators and a formidable supply of men that want to keep up their warrior lifestyle. Lockheed Martin, in particular, is going out to find prior-service people, especially Marine Corps, and offering them jobs. They offer them the same comradery that they are missing being in the civillian sector. Supporting the military industrial complex under the guise of patriotic duty. Unfortuntely, most of them will be caught up in the yarn of “Homeland Security” against terrorists. Kinda like the Milgram Experiment, you can get anyone to do almost anything given the right circumstances. These private sector “armed forces” will probably be the police force patrolling the streets, not the U.S. Military.

They have sent ATF agents to inspect and maybe seize their weapons, but those people were in some legal bussines with that, going arround on gun shows and similar.
Now, I do not completely understand concept of armed bible preachers, but it was legal for them to have those weapons. And bibles too.
ATF started shooting, for unknown reason. They could send couple of agents, and knock on the door and talk to the people, inspect what they want, and maybe take that case to court by either party involved.

any of you guys every thought of it from a woman’s perspective? In order for me to hold a rifle or shotgun I have to be placed on a child’s model. My arms are too short for the “grown-up” gun.
Why can’t manufacturers come up with “ladies” guns that are not too heavy, sturdy and are professional looking? They can come up with pink rifles for little girls why not something for ladies? Women do like to shoot as well. It’s not just a “man’s” thing.
I would like someone to come up with a lady’s gun that is slightly shorter than a normal size weapon. Made of composite material for reduced weight. Able to shoot a round without kicking my shoulder. I would like to see something that is stylish but not “hot pink” perhaps dark purple in color? Or even maroon? Black and white are good combo colors too. Perhaps some added chrome touches. We don’t need camo guns, unless we are hunters.
We would like a weapon that also has a hollow stock for placing accessories. We would like a sling that fits our shoulder and not that of my husband’s. I would like a holster that is not made for my husband’s clothing. I would like a concealable holster that fits with my attire. Something that doesn’t bulge out a pocket. There’s a budding market here guys.
