The Associated Press responded to pro-Bernie Sanders critics Tuesday who were angry that the wire service called the race for Hillary Clinton the night before six crucial primaries.

The Sanders campaign itself trashed AP, along with all the news organization who called the race Monday during an appearance on CNN Tuesday morning. “Let those people vote and decide before the media tells them that the race is over,” Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver said.

But AP isn’t backing down, explaining in a press release that it wasn’t malice or bias that led them to call Clinton the presumptive nominee, but simple math. “Clinton is now the ‘presumptive nominee,’ because according to our count, she now has enough delegates backing her candidacy to win the nomination,” AP Vice President Paul Colford said.
