Arizona Sheriff Vows to Enforce Immigration Law Whether ‘Feds’ Like It or Not

“We’ve been doing it for two years and have been very successful, but I guess they don’t like to enforce illegal immigration laws,” Arpaio told CNSNews.com. “[It] doesn’t make any difference. I’m still going to continue my programs, regardless of what the feds like or don’t like.”
Under that agreement, authorized in the 287(g) section of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, more than 100 officers and deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office were trained and certified by ICE to enforce federal immigration laws in 2007.

I think Californians have had enough of the illegals since it is costing their state millions each year and they are broke already. Arnold could care less, he gets his paycheck no matter what.
So instead of making a new more strict bill to enforce immigration laws, he passes stupid cell phone laws and new ammo control bills (fingerprints, background checks, etc to buy ammo).
That money could have built a wall along the California border, but no money is going towards keeping the aliens out.
Arizona, McCain the would be president is just as bad. How about putting up a wall like the berlin wall with land mines, electric fences and we would be saving a few bucks instead of giving it into a wasted effort in trying to keep them out with an open desert and a little stream.
I say put all the aliens in the FEMA camps, once there they will not ever want to come back if the black water guards have their way with them. haha
Well they have a choice, either be arrested and go back home or face the rope. The gallows are being built and its waiting for some fresh customers. Saves money remember?

There is a large Nursery that grows trees, shrubs, etc. The Owner, who is now deceased, started hiring illegal workers 20yrs ago. His business was very lucrative. Rumors spread that he kept a million dollars in cash in a safe in his home that he paid the illegals with. Well the owner had taken special interest in these two young mexican boys that had come with there family many years before. The boys grew up around the nursery and the family left, but the boys stayed. They were good workers and the owner treated them as if they were his own sons and gave them a nice house to live in. Well one day the boys, young men now, hatched a plan to take the million dollars from the safe and flee. They waited for the owner to leave, then snuck into the house and tried to pry open the safe with no success. So they waited for the owner to come home and proceeded to torture him, because he would not open the safe. The torture last for all most a day. They had cut off fingers, toes, shot him and he still refused. They finally shot him in the chest and Fled without the money. Who’s fault is it? The Owner for his Greed of hiring illegals? Or The Federal Government for allowing them to be here? Or the young illlegal Mexican men who were treated with respect like Americans? U decide.

As far as mexicans go, i live in los angeles, and most of them are hard working people that just want to do better for themselves and their families, like all immigrants historically, but there is no question that the massive influx has been too rapid and has created great burden on our nation. It has brought, crime, gangs, drugs, healthcare issues, the closing of hospitals, suppression of wages, burdens on infrastructure. It has turned California into a “3rd world country” already. We are suffering as a nation, our own citizens can’t find jobs, we can’t support immigration at all at this point. Borders should be closed until such time that we get back on our feet and can provide jobs for our own citizens first, and then limited organized immigration after that with no free handouts, no benefits, nothing for immigrants until they become citizens themselves. They need to pay their dues to society before they take from society.

I would agree with yet he is the longest running sheriff in U.S. history. He has done many illegal things in his time as Sherriff yet always gets out of it. You know I Live in AZ< in phoenix, and we have a huge problem here, mexicans say this is mexico and they are reclaiming the land. I used to cook at applebees, I could not get a raise after 5.5 years, because they can hire a mexican for cheaper. Why do they flood here? Jason, I feel your pain. I have talked to many people in AZ who are in the same predicament as you. It is tough when your own govt stacks the cards against you. All you can do, outside of relocation, is to say your prayers and keep fighting the fight. It’s beautiful country there and I know it’s hard to leave it. So you have to decide if you want to fight for it or accept the fact that the govt will do nothing for you and empower the illegal. Stories of illegals are abundant in your area. My advice would be to move on and never look back because this issue is beyond one man.

Hero Joe is no Hero at all. The immigration story isn’t the only suspected illegal activity that this dude is currently being investigated for, there are several actioons against him right now for events completely unrelated to illegal aliens or immigration.
He is known for violating the rights of many people, white, brown, black or red, he’s an equal opportunity thug. He is playing to his base, especially the far right and conservative senior citizens, and he’s found that the jackboot thug routine works really well for him.
He is known to conduct searches without a warrant, favor personal and political friends, violations of due process among many other violations of civil rights.
I think he’s a weak man who thinks he has to act tough, like a big man, like a bully so people will fear and respect him.
Regardless of what you believe regarding immigration or this case, we can’t fall in line behind someone like this. He’s one of the bad guys, I’m telling you.

John – Does the U.S. not have laws making certain drugs illegal to posess, sell or use (cocain, crack, heroin) ?? So if these drugs are illegal, shouldnt those that sell or use them be put in jail ?? I do agree that our prisions are getting extremely full of drug offenders, however many of these prisoners are repeat offenders. I am all for giving someone a second chance. I feel that 1st time arrested drug users should be provided treatment, as well as punished (they did break a law). However, if after treatment they go back to drug use, they should be given jail time.
People do critize Arpio for the way he runs his jail, most of the critics are prisoners in Arpios jail. I do not know about the restrainment chair, perhaps you can provide some solid proof on it. Many critize his jails because he has some that “tent jails”. This is a good thing in my opion, as prisons in the U.S. are just to cushy. Heat, air-conditioning, three meals a day, tv, gym, and even educational services. These are all things you and I need to pay for to have, plus out tax dollars go to paying for the prisoners to have as well. Arpios tent jail reduces the costs, as there is not heat or air-conditioning, he has taken away the gym and workout equipment, and serves economical meals. If prisons in the U.S. were like this in other countries (Russia, Mexico, Thailand, etc), this may be more of a deterent to crimes.

Dave – what do you suggest be done with persons that have broken drug laws ??? Put them in a nice cushy room and give them pampered rehab ?? I got news for you, that does not work. If you knew getting caught with illegal drugs would only put you in a nice cushy rehab program for 2 months, why would you worry about getting caught. If you knew getting caught with drugs would get you in a one plus year stay in a prison like one in Mexico, Russia, Thailand, etc, you may think more about breaking illegal drug laws.

As usual, you only post insults when a persons views do not meet with yours, yet you do not offer any facts or data to back up your own views. I can assure you that I have had the opportunity to travel to many places in this world, see sights that I am very sure you have never seen, and learn from many experiences. One lesson you should learn….Its best to be thought an idiot, rather than open your mouth and prove it (in your case, type words and prove it.)

You however fail to see that the persons in this situation did not start out life as a drug addict, at some point in their lives they made a decsision to start using drugs and then became an addict. Many people, most likely including yourself, seek to place blame on others for their poor decsions in life. While I have never been in jail, beacuse I choose to make decsions that would not put me there, it does not take a Harvard law graduate to know that jails in America are more like a plush Hilton hotel when compared to jails of other countries. Perhaps if jails in America were the same as those in Mexico or Thailand (two countries I have been too), people might think much harder before making a poor decsion to start using and get addicted to illegal drugs. As I had already posted, I do beleive in giving a person a second chance in life. 1st time drug offenders with no other arests should be provided with rehab as well a punished. If you get caught a second time, there should be no rehab, just hard jail time in a tent city jail like Arpio runs.

The real problem is that family values and respect for ones family and for one self is no longer taught to our children. Growing up I had respect and fear for my family. When I say fear, I mean that I feared the consquences I would face from my father if I made a poor decsion like using illegal drugs. As I got older, that fear turned to repsect, knowing that I would disgrace my family by making poor decsions, like using illegal drugs.
I would love to see your well educated solutions to the drug and immigration problems faced in America today.

Well for example the sheriff said that Holland’s legalization of drugs has not been a success and that there were drug addicts laying all over the streets and you would have to jump over them when you walked the streets… lol…thought that was a bit over the top because it wasn’t true.
So, do you support the so called “war on drugs” ?
I think it would be better for a drug rehab program to be implemented or at least treat them the same way a alcoholic addict be treated. After all more people die from alcohol and tobacco yearly than other hard drugs.
Prisons in those countries you named are more prone to corruption and they’re not shy, especially in Asian nations. But this is America, would you prefer torture and corruption in American prisons to fix the drug problems? So maybe do you think fear will solve drug problems?
I mean it’s a valid point you make but in my opinion I disagree that inciting fear based on harsh prison time on non violent drug offenders just wouldn’t work.
Also what Sumsrent was saying was that for drug addicts they aren’t concerned about the consequences because their only solution to their problems are getting high or getting their fix just like a gambler’s addiction problem would be to gamble more. At least this is what my interpretation of his comment was.

Dave – I have been to The Netherlands (Holland) several times, and yes there are drug addicts laying in the streets, I had seen many in Amsterdam. The majority of the drug addicts were waiting for the methidone truck to come by so they could get their shots (fix as you would say). Talking to many of the Dutch locals, they do not feel the drug treament programs are working, but actually contributing to the problem. It is not opposed strongly by locals, as they know their tax dollars are not being used to fund the treatments, the funds come from the tax on products bought in the coffee shops (pot, hash, mushrooms), and these are for the largest part bought by tourists.
You are missing the same thing as Sumsrent, and that is persons are not born drug addicts (putting aside babies born by crackhead moms). At some point these people made their own decision to use and get addicted to illegal drugs. If at a young age a person knows that being caught using illegal drugs will only put them in a cushy rehab center, what reason would they have to not try illegal drugs ? Now if they knew using illegal drugs would get them thrown in a rat infested stink hole for 10 years, perhps they would think much harder before they make the decsion to start using illegal drugs. Just knowing I could be put in an American prison is enough for me to “just say no to drugs”. So, do I think fear could solve the drug problem ? Not entirely, however if targeted at the young, the demand for illegal drugs could diminish. For those that have been long term drug addicts and been in and out of rehabs and jail, and still choose to be an addict, no it would not help there. These type of people tend to become your VIOLENT drug offenders.
As far as supporting the war on drugs, first you need to ask yourself if you really think there is a war on drugs ?? Many, including myself, feel that our own government brings much of the illegal drugs into America, or at least does very little to stem the flow of illegal drugs into America. Unless the demand for illegal drugs is shut off, the persons bringing them into America will always find a way to do it.

I don’t believe that person are born drug addicts. It just so happens some people are more vulnerable to get addicted to drugs. Just like all things should be done in moderation, anyone can become addicted to almost anything not just drugs. I agree and believe the government does bring in most of the drugs into America. And for the most part I think the government has come to exploit its people on drugs.
So we’ll just agree to disagree on the issue of punishment of non violent drug offenders.

I have noticed many comments that express hatred for Arpio, yet many of these same people have also posted comments of distain for illegal immigrants from Mexico and South America.
Arpio is simply enforcing the immigration laws that our federal government is obilgated to enforce under the Constitution, yet the federal government has failed to do so. Not only has our federal government failed to enforce immigration laws, its as though they have chosen to not even address it at all. This should outrage all legal American people, as our federal government has failed to ensure safety, security and prosperity under our Constitutional rights.

meals for inmates at his jail, plenty of exercise
and religious freedom. There were almost no
problems in the jail because Roy knew men
with full stomachs were less apt to start trouble.
He was a 6′ 6″ man among men, a paragon of
virtue, respected by inmates and citizens alike.
It was a sad day for all of us when he retired.

As the time goes on , people of america have everyday less and less freedom due to politics conducted by federal power. Also , as a consequence of the economic crisis , more and more of them have lost their job and home. But the crisis is not finished , and in near future the consequences could be catastrophic. Keep in mind that any change can not come from the federal government , but only the people , the only source of any future chagement. If a majority of them think a change is possible , so it can be. A way to preserve freedom , ideals , welfare of people is federalism must come to an end. People will have to make a choise , federalism versus freedom , ideals , welfare… . The first could lead to the establishment of a martial law. A state as texas is ready to cross the line , it could be an example for the others. People could put under pressure every state government in the aim to declare secession , the american constitution allow such a decision. Such an aim can’t be aimed without any precaution , as it is evident the federal power is not ready to yield or abdicate. Probably , this one will use force to submit people , but constitution give garantees on firearms. people can put up a fight against the oppressive federal power if a political issue according to the will of people can not be lead. People have to make his will respect , otherwise it will be an opressed people. Saying that federalism must come to an end mean it must be break down , it appears to be the only way to preserve people. America can be easily imagined without federalism and preserved.

You go sheriff!! Let the feds know that they really have no power over you. According to the constitution they don’t. It has been misconstrued for all these years and people have been lied to. Federal laws do NOT supercede state laws, it is the other way around. The state gov’s have been held by extortion to acquiesce to the demands of the Fed Gov’t by holding back funding for state programs. All the states need to do at this point is hold back all the federal tax withholdings and tell them they won’t be enjoying that money anymore until they start doing the job that the constitution says they have and nothing more.
