Phoenix – Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer announced the filing of a lawsuit against the U.S. government for its “failure” to enforce immigration laws.
The suit is a response to the Justice Department’s efforts to overturn Arizona state law SB1070, a measure aimed at criminalizing undocumented immigrants. The legislation’s most controversial provisions remain on hold pending a ruling by the federal courts.
“Our message for the federal government is simple,” the Republican governor said Thursday at a press conference. “Use federal resources to attack the cartels who are breaking federal law. Don’t attack Arizona which is helping to enforce federal law.”
State Attorney General Tom Horne, who accompanied Brewer during the announcement, said Arizona’s countersuit is based on five points.
