High-tech surveillance coming to metro

Big brother is about to get a whole lot more high-tech on the metro.
By the end of next year, Montreal's metro system will have 1,200 state-of-the-art surveillance cameras installed, replacing the 400 older camers currently in place.
The $700-million project is part of a federal initiative to tighten security in the face of concerns about a terrorist attack on Canada's public transit systems.
But the high-tech cameras will also help security officials arrest and prosecute people suspected of committing crimes in the metro system.
