Police to get mobile surveillance system
Orange County Publications / Times Herald Record, Raja Abdulrahim | May 25 2006
It’s not Big Brother, they say, but the newest gadget at the Village of Goshen Police Department can be set up anywhere for surveillance.
The department received a $12,000 grant last week from a Department of Homeland Security program to buy a portable surveillance system to help with investigations or keeping an eye on areas of community concern.
A few years ago, there was a rash of burglaries at local stores, and the department stationed an officer to keep watch overnight. “So now, instead of posting an officer, they could set up the mobile surveillance system,” Police Commissioner Lynn Cione said.
The grant will also cover training for an officer in August, when the department will get the camera.
