Three U.S. soldiers were killed in separate bomb attacks in Iraq on Thursday, the U.S. military said in statements.
One, attached to Marine forces, died when a bomb hit his vehicle during combat operations east of Musayib, about 60 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad. Another died when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb in the east of the capital itself.
The third was killed when an explosion struck a patrol near Samarra, 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad. Another soldier was wounded in that incident.
The two weeks since the formation of a government from a parliament elected in January have seen a sharp increase in insurgent attacks on Iraqi and U.S. forces and on civilians.
The three casualties on Thursday took the total of Americans killed since the 2003 invasion of Iraq to 1,614.
