Visit Guantanamo Bay! Bring the Kids!
News Hounds | October 5 2006
Jim Angle sat in for Brit Hume during last night's (10/4) "Special Report" and took the opportunity to use the "Two Minutes of Hate" segment (AKA "Grapevine") to provide statistics to his viewers showing that inmates at Guantanamo Bay have increasingly been putting weight on, due to what he claimed was the diet being fed to them. He used this statistic in an attempt to provide a glowing view of the detention center, while wishing to silence critics that are worried about such "trivial" things as torture, due process and habeous corpus.
Angle claimed, "Critics worry about detainees at Guantanamo Bay getting mistreated. But now we learn that they are eating so well that many are gaining enormous amounts of weight. The Associated Press reports detainees are offered choices that can total as much as 4,200 calories a day – one-third more than federal prison inmates in the U.S. One detainee has gone from 215 pounds when he arrived in 2002 to 410 pounds now. Overall, the detainees have gained an average of 20 pounds.
Some critics say the weight gain is because the detainees don't get enough exercise, but a spokesman at Guantanamo says detainees are given a minimum of 90-minutes a day to exercise if they want it. Many are allowed up to 12-hours per week, and have access to treadmills, stationary bikes and other fitness equipment."
Comment: Get that all ye GOP faithful?
Don't worry about what critics are saying.
Ignore the torture scandals.
Ignore the suicides of inmates.
Ignore the fact these prisoners have received no due process, so we aren't even sure if they are terrorists to begin with.
Ignore the negative Human Rights reports for respected agencies.
Ignore the fact that the Geneva Convention isn't being followed.
Ignore the juveniles being held without being charged.
None of these things are important, because the likes of Jim Angle and Rush Limbaugh continue to harp on how great the facility is, and how wonderful the food is. What's torture and holding some that MAY be innocent, if they're getting good food they might not be able to get at home?
