LONDON (Reuters) - A British soldier has been arrested on suspicion of owning property that was to be used for terrorism, police and the Defence Ministry said on Wednesday.
Police said the 23-year-old man was detained near Folkestone, southeast England, on Tuesday.
As part of the same operation, policed later raided a house in Bradford, northern England, and carried out a controlle explosion on a World War Two mortar.
"The arrest and search are not linked to the ongoing investigations into the incidents on July 7 and July 21," a police spokeswoman said, referring to last month's bombings and attempted bombings in London.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed the man arrested was a member of the armed forces but declined to give more details.
