LaGRANGE, Ga. -Authorities have charged two 10-year-old boys with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.
The boys have been charged with kidnapping and aggravated sodomy, LaGrange police Sgt. Roger Pointer said.
All three children live in the same apartment complex, police said.
Police were called to the apartment complex around 7 p.m. Monday, Pointer said. The girl was walking to a playground when the boys walked up to her and allegedly made sexual comments, Pointer said. The girl told them to leave her alone and she continued walking toward the playground. The boys then grabbed her, took her in some bushes and sexually assaulted her, he said.
The boys, who are both in the fourth grade, left after the alleged incident. A woman at the apartment heard the girl crying and started talking to her.
"She took the girl to her mother, then called the police," Pointer said. "She was very detailed in her account of what happened, and she was able to identify the two 10-year-olds."
The boys and their parents were questioned and the boys admitted to the assault, Pointer said.
One boy has been placed under house arrest and will stay with relatives, Pointer said. The other boy was taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Griffin.
Pointer said investigators are trying to figure out why the boys would have assaulted the girl, who is in the second grade.
"This is the youngest I've ever seen something like this happen," Pointer said. "We're still looking into it as to where they may have gotten this idea."
A court appearance for the boys has been scheduled for Thursday in Troup County Juvenile Court.
