Dr. Richard Kiepfer: Silver Star recipient and true American hero

Retired Navy Captain Kiepfer is the highest ranking surviving member of the USS Liberty crew and was the only doctor aboard the Liberty,when, on June 8, 1967, she was ferociously attacked by Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats. Heavily wounded by shrapnel, Doctor Kiepfer worked tirelessly for 20 hours,saving 30-40 American lives while keeping his innards intact with a life vest, he was also suffering a bullet wound and working standing on a broken knee.
