Asleep at the switch: An Open Letter to America’s Pastors

This past Sunday I had an interesting experience I thought I should share. After attending an average church meeting in the morning and spending an uncomfortable afternoon reading the news, I eventually ended my day and got to sleep. I was awakened at 4am with some of the news articles in my mind and a phrase predominant in my thoughts.
The phrase was: Asleep at the switch. Although I thought I was aware of the meaning of the phrase I got up and looked it up.
The Online Dictionary defines ‘asleep at the switch’ as follows: “This term came from 19th-century American railroading, when it was the trainman’s duty to switch cars from one track to another by means of manually operated levers. Should he fail to do so, trains could collide. It was later transferred to any lack of alertness … disastrous results are implied.” (http://www.yourdictionary.com/idioms/asleep-at-the-switch)
This started me thinking. We have arrived at a period in American and world history when being awake is of utmost importance. Being in a position of leadership and yet asleep to critical issues at such a time will certainly lead to the ‘disastrous results’ referred to in the closing phrase in the above definition.
Here in The United States of late we are daily confronted with news of proposed legislation that would radically change the very underpinnings of our nation. Recently a final copy of the proposed health care ‘reform’ was released. Despite lawmaker promises to the contrary, the bill still contains items like government funded abortion (Page 110) and end of life counseling (Pages 649-661).
I began to review the happenings of the previous day. Oddly enough, I heard no out cry in church about any of the provisions in the legislation. Although I expected to hear readings from the scripture on subjects like, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13), no such sermon was given. Rather, the current ongoing sermon series was apparently to be continued without interruption.
Perhaps, I thought, the pastor might fit in a section about “You shall not steal” (Exodus 20:15), relating it to the ‘cap and trade’ bill, which will effectively, and under false pretenses, redistribute (read: steal) the incomes of Americans, convert them to ‘carbon credits’, and give them into the hands of some of the same organizations that caused the current economic crisis. This subject was not presented either.
Or, perhaps, a message about the ‘stealing’ from the American people that occurred when congress and the federal reserve, against the wishes of 80% of Americans, gave trillions of taxpayer dollars to bankers last year about this time, and wants to do more of the same. No, to my surprise, nothing such as this was included in the message.
Or, perhaps, a word or two about proposed gun control legislation and the Biblical right of self defense, with a reference to Exodus 22:2 which states, “If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account.” Sadly, that was not mentioned either.
Or, perhaps, a section of the sermon would be about the new Youth Corps, or government figures and schools encouraging children to report on their parents for ‘suspicious behavior’ with a reference to Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.“ Maybe, I thought, that section would reference Jesus’ words in Mark 13:12, “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.“ Unfortunately, that sermon section was absent as well.
While I was not really surprised, the lack of reference to any current topic did disturb me. My concern is not ‘political’ per se, but it is a concern for the people these bills are planning to harm, kill, rob, etc. In pondering the lack of any ‘political’ or current events content in sermons I heard that day, or have heard in recent years, I began researching the actual text of the government’s tax exempt status for churches. Although this tax status offers a benefit to the churches in that the member’s donations are exempt from taxes, it has a darker side to it as well.

When the government offers churches 501(c)(3) tax exempt status it comes with some ‘Restrictions on Activities’ that must be observed by the organization in order to comply. The restriction states that “Intervention in political campaigns or the endorsement/anti-endorsement of candidates for public office is strictly prohibited” and “lobbying, propaganda or other legislative activity must be kept relatively insubstantial”. Churches are allowed to keep their congregation’s donations sheltered from federal taxes only if, in turn, the pastors agree to keep silent on political issues.
It seems that the government has effectively suppressed the content of American pastors sermons by offering 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, which states that “Intervention in political campaigns or the endorsement/anti-endorsement of candidates for public office is strictly prohibited” and “lobbying, propaganda or other legislative activity must be kept relatively insubstantial”. Churches are allowed to keep their congregation’s donations sheltered from federal taxes only if, in turn, the pastors agree to keep silent on political issues.
While these restrictions are clearly stated by the government, they are not clearly understood by many church congregations, and their ramifications, which restrict what a pastor can speak freely about, are even less understood. These issues warrant serious consideration by any church seeking tax exempt status, as well as reconsideration by any church already organized as a 501(c)(3).
Being an ordained pastor as well as a business owner I understand the difficult issues involved in leader/congregation relations and can empathize with pastors who are uneasy about approaching their congregations with the idea of giving up their tax deduction. Fortunately most congregations recognize that pastors in America have a unique privilege and responsibility to help guide the church of America into the truth, and are likely to consider seriously what their pastors share with them.
During the American Revolution pastors had more influence with the common people than the signers of the Declaration of Independence had. The pastors reach the people where they live. Congregations trust their pastors to give them ‘the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth’. Pastors, on the other hand, have access to and an impact on a large audience, and have a strong persuasive platform based on the underpinnings of people’s desire to be right with God. If pastors speak with conviction their congregations will generally listen.
I realize that there are already pastors in America who do speak out on the issues facing us, with or without tax exemption. To those pastors I say, “Thank you for your service.” I applaud you for speaking out about the issues our country faces as they relate to the teachings of the Bible. We live in the freest nation on earth, and you have squarely taken on the responsibility that comes with that freedom. If we must lose tax exempt status by speaking out it is a small price to pay. If we face imprisonment for it we will join the honorable ranks of pastors from China, Iran, and many other nations who have faced persecution for decades simply for doing and speaking what is contained in the Bible.
In many cases it is the congregation who will be the ones who need to make the decision on this issue once they are fully informed. I have found that most believers who are clearly addressed on this issue, being told the consequences to sermon content and all that the scriptures say that is applicable, will opt for change.
If the congregation wants the content of their pastor’s messages to remain limited by the government for the sake of the tax deduction, they can continue as they are. If not, they can make the necessary changes.
If the majority opts for freedom of speech in their sermons some members may leave in search of another church that will still offer them a tax deduction. This is unfortunate, but will likely occur. Meeting attendance and offerings will likely be affected. Personally, I have counted the cost, and believe it to be worth it in order to allow the unfettered truth to be spoken. God will honor the ‘love of the truth.’
Jesus taught us that we ‘cannot serve both God and money’, so if such a choice exists it is clear how we must choose. As ministers of the good news about Jesus we must be able to say with Paul, “I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.” (Acts 20:26-27). If a pastor who has studied the details of the tax exempt status finds themselves in a congregation that chooses to retain tax exemption after knowing the full ramifications, the pastor is free, if they desire, to step down and move to (or start) a church that desires to hear all that the scripture has to say on the current state of our country and the world without the 501(c)(3) filter.
I have heard it said that, since the government ‘requires churches not to speak on political issues’, and Romans 13 requires us to obey the government, the topic of whether or not to use 501(c)(3) is not an issue. It is true, however, that the same apostle Paul who dictated those words in Romans 13 did not obey the Roman or Jewish government edicts requiring citizens to give up the locations of believers in hiding, although he once had crafted such edicts himself. Jesus’ disciples and Jesus himself apparently did not obey the edict that said, “Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might seize Him.” (John 11:57). Along these lines it may be helpful to read the writings of Dietrich Bonheoffer.
It is also important to remember that our governmental situation is much different than the Roman Empire of Paul’s day. We live in a constitutional republic. The persons mentioned in the opening sections above who are violating the laws of the land are not us, but rather the elected officials attempting to force through legislation against the will of the constituents who elected them.
I fully understand the quandary American pastors find themselves in. A few years back when I began researching what appears to be the ‘course planned for our nation’ I eventually became rather depressed and felt hopeless. I felt like David facing an entire army of Goliaths. With God’s help I eventually had to shake off this overwhelming intimidation, trust God, and take action. I now have hope for America and all her pastors and congregations. We need not be found asleep at the switch. If we all set our sails God will supply the wind!

Though I don’t support denominationalism of any kind in the faith,hence “DEMONATIONS” I myself said these very same things in the Church way back in the 90’s. And it’s a fact if we had the same pastors today that we had when this country was birthed, we wouldn’t be facing all the criminal actions being fostered upon us by a roug criminal DEFACTO Government as we have today. I applaud this brother for having the guts to write this article, because I put the lion’s share of the blame of the sorry state of our nation and society at the feet of the so called Christian Church in America. As far as pastors asleep at the wheel. I couldn’t agree more.
Most new age churches are corrupt. Even the so called “Christian” ones who say they are Bible based. You find out they read form the corrupted NIV Bible and like good little government funded churches they keep their congregation at bay by never talking about important issues.
I recently quit a church.
With everything that has been going on I was asking why no one is talking about it in church? Why isn’t the pastor pounding his fist on the pulpit getting his 6,000 member congregation active? Yes. 6,000 asleep members! Well. Now they have 5,994 members without my family!
As I’m sitting in this church at first I was thinking Alex was harsh on the 501[c][3] churches.
But I think he’s talking the truth.
This large church kept the members so comfortable and kept at bay that the members showed up wearing clothing with secular designs. Peace symbols (the Nero’s Cross, Nazi’s dead man’s ruin) is not only on the shirts brought in by the members but the shirts in the book store in the church had peace signs on it!!!
Many women felt comfortable dressing like whores with their push up bras massive cleavage and 3 inch high heels with their short skirts.
I was wondering “What the heck is going on in God’s church???”
Anyway. I found a true Bible based church where the pastor is up on the constitution and what is going on with out pervert president, the NWO, etc and the members are involved going to tea parties, etc.
The pastor is HATED by the homosexuals and the Obama supporters. So I know I’m in the right place now.
Anyway. That’s my story.
My wife isn’t used to the change but I’m trying to get through to her that the big church is the new age church and the one with the pastor pounding the pulpit and discussing the filth in the world is how more pastors used to be before the new age Bibles came out (NIV was produced with two homosexuals and a publisher who publishes the satanic Bible and gay sex books) and many other modern translations are also corrupt.
If verses such as Mathew 17:21 and Acts 8:37 are missing from your Bible, you have a bunk new age Bible and you better be throwing it in the garbage!
The KJV is the word of God.

The church I left had close to thirty thousand members. That’s alot of people who aren’t knowledgeable about what’s going on in our country. I called one member I used to talk to and told her about the danger of vaccinations and Dr. Tenpenny’s website(Alex was on her site too) and I let her know she could call me anytime if she wanted to talk. I haven’t heard from her-this was about two months ago. My brother said they don’t discuss anything political at his church. I haven’t found a non 501c3 church in my area yet. If most of the churches aren’t discussing these issues then alot of people are in the dark. There’s a website that deals with a church unincorporating-it’s called http://www.hushmoney.org

I came out of a “church” that too had A CLAIMED 7000 members….but only give $29,050 a year in “benevolence” from a $7 Million/Year tithe and offerings. $365,000/MONTH for Salaries/housing allowance and a $17,000/Month CELL PHONE BILL for the “pastors” (which is every FRIEND and FAMILY MEMBER of the “HEAD PASTOR” who also put himself as an “ELDER” Overseeing HIMSELF” but STILL EVERY MEMBER of the 7,000 plus members are ASLEEP…allowing this perversion of scriptures and inviting the SECULARE WORLD INTO THE DOORS OF THE CHURCH….the church mirrors and even surpasses the world today…it makes me sick. I LOVE my church! The pastor never hesitates to proclaim the whole counsel of God, even if it sometimes “steps on people’s toes”. We are mission-minded from reaching out into the local community, to supporting a sister church in Capetown South Africa. But it’s not just feeding the poor. A full belly can still be lost. They definitely get the gospel.
So many people fail to make a distinction between “religion” and a relationship with God through His SON, Jesus Christ. Of course, this is a favorite tactic of satan, sowing confusion about the gospel. ANY denomination can contain true believers in Jesus Christ. But once a person finds that relationship, they either leave a church where the gospel is not preached, or they try to work where they are as Martin Luther did.
The fact that some churches ordain homosexuals, and there are hardly any differences between those who say they are Christians and the lost world system is no excuse for us to chuck it all and form our own “religion”. We are NOT to forsake the assembling of ourselves together and avoid corporate worship. Just find a church that preaches the whole Bible and be responsible to God. After all, no church, and no other person is going to stand before God on my behalf and explain why I was a jerk. I’ll stand alone before Him when everything is finished. I’m responsible to God for my own life.

Thank you very much for this post. Would you please quote the two verses (Mathew 17:21 and Acts 8:37)? I just checked my ‘Bible’ and do not have these verses. I cannot believe (regardless of what the verses say) that they would even be ommitted! Is nothing fucking sacred in this world??!!

I’m really not sure why these verses would have been omitted but here is how they read from the New King James Version. Matthew 17:21 “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Acts 8:37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, ” I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

you must be reading from the NIV? You’ve cited only two instances of clipped verses. There are thousands of missing words throughout that text. But, it’s so easy to read without all those thees and thous, right? This is why it is referred to as the New Idiot Version.
The KJ isn’t a whole lot better, but for different reasons. The King gave edicts to the translators to make certain that it would appear from the text that the Bible would support the power of the State, over the Church. This is why when the KJ version was first published most people would not read one, much less own one, or quote from one.

The KJV is only a version, not THE version. It wasn’t even the first English version. That form of English is dead. Just like the Koine Greek of the New Testament is dead. The Greek NT or the LXX does not rely on KJV (which came a thousand and a half years after the bible was completed) whatsoever. The KJV is a new invention (relatively) and from my experience, only whacked out nut job white people have this unhealthy obsession with the KJV, even claiming that Jesus used it. You people are the reason people hate Christians. So stupid!

New Version Bibles are all taken from a different text than the Textus Receptus which the KJV was taken from, King James was not a Christian but God used him to preserve his word (God says he will preserve his word the Bible), King James hated that the Roman empire wanted to keep the bible in Latin so that only the Catholic church could interpret it to the people, in rebellion to the Catholic church he had the Bible translated so that all people could read it. Yes the English language has changed since then and the 1711 is impossible to read, it was carefully translated into the newer english version with many checking making sure the translation was accurate, to say it could not be is calling God a liar because he said he would preserve it. Westcott and Hort wrote a “new text” can’t think of the name at the moment, but had over 60,000 changes and ommisions in it. Westcott and Hort were confused men that were Mary worshipers, and held sceonces with Darwin (yep Darwin of evolution) they would conjur up dead spirits or demonic spirits. ALL the new version Bibles are written from that text and not from the Textus Receptus for the longest time the only accepted text why it has it’s name. Gods word is not new, so we should not use a new text. Read a new version (especially the latest and “greatest”) next to a King James, you will be shocked the differences!!

Jesus came thru the Temple and turned over the money changers tables right?I was too fed up with the new worlds church,still hate to got to church,I do go for Sacriment.Then i leave. Home church,home school. Keep the govt out of my life for an hour please. All churches have their way of teaching what i want to see is heaven,sit under the tree of life and spend the rest of for ever there. But with some of these churches will be at work work and more work, herded around from one commitiy to another moving chairs and sweeping up after the potlatch.what a waste of time. You’re right. One addition; though I don’t have proof to back this up, both angels and demons manifest in our dimension. Since demons are masters of deception, the extra-terrestrials/aliens seem to be demonic in nature as I’ve always heard of them molesting those they “kidnap”.
Whether or not any life exists anywhere else in the universe, God didn’t reveal that. So we don’t need to speculate. We’ll find out in the course of time if it is important to know. In any case, Jesus came to EARTH, and that is where the focus needs to stay. We’ve got a lot of answering to do before almighty God for the way we’ve messed up HIS planet. And our own lives.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a literal star, but rather the glory of God. In any case, it would have to be something outstanding. I wonder, though, if only the magi could see it? Herod surely would have found Jesus to kill him if he knew what to look for. Since we’re headed into the Christmas season, most of depictions of the magi arriving are wrong. They did not go to the manger (sorry to trash anybody’s perception). They saw the glory of God (the star) at the time of His birth. It took many months on animals for them to get from where they were to where Jesus was living in an actual house. There were certainly more than 3, but the Bible doesn’t say how many. No one would travel such a great distance without armed protection and servants, bringing treasure that would surely be noticed by thieves. The magi were considered royalty in their own right, so thinking of them as kings is not out of place. Also, Jesus was more than an infant by the time they arrived; the Bible says “young child”. Thus, Herod’s diabolically cruel edict that all baby boys under the age of two were to be killed. We think the world is bad now? Those herodians were just as bad as Hitler.

The churches have sold the people a lie of higher spiritual learning. Some of truths of our existence have been hidden purposefully from the parishioners. Such as the Universal Laws, they aren’t even admitted they exist let alone what they are. You commenters think you have the truths and you have nothing. They won’t even give you what they have. I have heard more than one minister admit they are told to keep the truths from the church followers. The church leaders pass down the directives to teach you only the limited narrow teachings that you get. This has been going on since the philosophy the organizers took and created a mind control religion with. The religions are based on spiritual philosophies and the philosophies are diminished over the years to basically an empty shell of there original truths. You are all being duped and its been going on for EVER!
I know this for a certain. Its time to quit acting like children, being led around by the nose. Start searching this stuff out for yourself. Quit having to have a swami tell you what to believe. Its time to grow up spiritually and learn about God for real. God is so much more than your book is telling you. “Asleep At The Switch” was a very familiar phrase when I was growing up,
and I would add that if the switchman on the “main line” were asleep, it
could have cost hundreds of lives.
With our mountain railroads there was a single “mainline track”. This track
was intended for “fast freights” and “passenger runs”. Lots of trains could
use the track but along the line there were “sidings”. These were extra
tracks laid alongside the mainline at different locations.
Some sidings were a mile long in case a slow, heavy freight train, (like
a “coal jag”), had to get off the mainline. The switchman would know the
schedule of the fast freight and the “express”, and would throw the switch
to run the slow trains off on the siding track so the express could speed
through.
But if the switchman was “asleep at the switch” and the slow freight went
on down the mainline, the express would come speeding up and crash
right into the rear of it, possibly costing many lives. Thankfully this almost
never happened. The switchman job was held by mature, responsible men.
That’s an apt comparison with the Pastors in America’s churches. They
are supposed to be somewhat responsible for their parishoners’ destiny.
I’ve attended church all my life, and I must say for the last 20 years or
so YOU CAN’T PUT MUCH TRUST IN THE PASTORS. These switchmen are
lazy, and the slow steady freight of America’s working class has been
allowed to stray down the mainline track RIGHT INTO GRAVE DANGER.
The American Church should be FIRST to sound the clarion call of warning.
Many switchmen have been bribed to allow our train to crash on purpose.
Others have been lulled to sleep by “Think And Grow Rich” schemes until
their thoughts are of Lincoln Town Cars and golf games instead of the
IMMINENT DESTRUCTION OF THIS REPUBLIC.
I am hopeful that a few “watchmen on the wall” will turn up among the
slumberers. Alex is one of them. Lindsey Williams another. The criminal
“pastors” who’ve taken bribes are now in Satan’s corner. Perhaps some
young men of God will rise up and PROCLAIM THE TRUTH, but time has

I have a dear friend that just recently retired after about 60 years at a church in Diboll Tx. He is about 85 yrs old. Last year I talked to him and asked how he was doing. He said fine but a little sore. He had been repairing the roof on his church and fell off. Iasked if he went to the hospital and he laughed and said that , No he just brushed himself off and went back up the ladder and finished the work.
Till recently he preached locally three times a week,went to two penitenturies, twice a week,local jail once a week, and then made it to the hospitals and nursing homes every week. On op of all this he puts out a weekly church letter and calls folks that might need an encouraging word or prayer. He drives a 93 ford and is happy as any person I ever knew. He always says,” I would rather wear out than rust out”. Some how he even finds time to hunt and fish!
I met him in the pen when I was still very bitter about Nam. What an awsome person! He just stays busy loving people and expounding the word. Every convict that comes in contact with him respects and loves him and never misses a chance to go hear him preach. Many in those facilities have recieved the Holy Spirit and been baptised in Jesus’ Name under this man’s ministry.
Just had to take this opportunity to talk about my friend!

Pastors these days do not want any discontent in the church, and would call us divisive, Jesus was divisive, he caused alot of stir for the glory of his Father, and he let the churches know their wrong doing, how dare we do that today, the pastor will kick you out of church before even consulting with the holy spirit.
It is a sad place where we have the freedom (for just a little while longer) to speak the truth, but are blinded.

I attend a southern baptise church in oveido fl .1st baptise of oveido. the church is a great church and its memebers also. but the pastor and staff refuse to talk about issues of today, as far as they go is… yes we understand the economic troubles of today . they never address anything that is going on. they are protecting there tax shelter 501c3 account . I think they are in trouble finaces because they just spent 25 million or so on a new worship center , the pastor had falling out with some of his past staff members . things seemed to be unraveling on him. I think God is going to root out churches that are run by 501c3 them being one of them . I have and others to get the pastor to address mattes but with no sucsess . as far as the members many have no clue and yes some are ok with government running things ,some say give ceasar what is his. end of story. I think many of them are just not interested and ignorant. this church is in 2nd richest county (Seminole) in Florida meaning wage earnings ave. are 2nd behind Palmbeach county this church is a light house for christains in central florida and has a impact in the community and surrounding ones. they do share the gospel well which is very good but they do not talk about what is happing today.

Because of an Independent Baptist Pastor I woke up concerning 911. This pastor is a not only a true shepherd, but he is a true watchman. He speaks the truth concerning all the issues we are facing in these days.
He is not afraid of what man says. He will always obey God instead of corrupt, evil men in a government that has gone bad. He will continue to speak what the Bible says about sodomites no matter if he is charged under the Hate Bill, and put into jail. He is not a goosestepper.
He also holds every word of God dearly in his heart. Whereas so many so-called pastors could care less about the words of God. This is why I think so many pastors are asleep at the switch.
Anyhow, I am thankful that I woke up last year, and I studied last winter every thing concerning the New World Order, and I have daily kept up with the articles and speaking on the Alex Jones Inforwars site.
Really, I am at the point, where I think the real answer to all of this is 1776. I am not for any violence however. We have to find ways not to go along with all of this tyranny. I think refusing to be vaccinated is a good way.
But if we have to fight for our country, I believe many will rise up to fight against the criminal take over of our country. And, it may be sovereign of the Almighty God that we take up arms against the domestic terrorists who have taken over our government.

Unfortunately, at lest in my case, some churches require their pastors to have the equivalent of a Doctorate before they can lead a congregation. The education required often sends what would otherwise be good honest people thru a gauntlet of progressive indoctrination resulting in a blurred perception of what the scriptures actually say. Recently the ELCA Lutheren church voted to ordain openly gay pastors. I am in the call committee for my church (we are looking for a pastor) and one of our first candidates was someone who had studdied at Berkley, spent a lot of time in Chicago, and Washington DC working on Social Justice programs etc…This candidate barley had an ounce of principle in their body. So one problem is that progressivism has leaked into every fascet of our society including our seminaries. The other problem is this…Months ago I felt that something needed to be said in an attempt to wake people up at my church. I requested some time, and expressed my fears about the dirrection our country was headed. Out of about 120 in attendance, only four people responded to me. Months later, our interem pastor spoke about complacency, yet failed to mention anything of any real importance. I could have picked out a dozen examples right off the top of my head, and yet even he was speaking with a blindfold to an audience of complacent sheeple. Complacency and the perversion of the truth. These are the things that are killing this country, and we can only wake people up 1,2 or 4 people at a time before we need to cut our losses and prepare for impact.

Yes, the ELCA and all other Lutheran (and most other denominations) are now part of the World Council of Churches. I tried to warn my church about joining the WCC, but to no avail. They are very pro communist and extremely liberal. Most are not Christian. That is why I left the Lutheran Church and all churches that are part of the WCC. Richard Wurmbrand and Alexander Solginetzen (mispelled, I know) warned about the WCC, also.
I am a preacher, and I am thoroughly disgusted with the majority of “pastors” who refuse to be “watchmen on the wall.” If you google: “Black Regiment Pastors” for a list of preachers, lay ministers, and evangelists who are true Watchmen on the Wall, and many of which are not 501 (c)3.

i’m also against everything mentioned such as cap&trade, gun control, obamacare, youth corps etc. but one must keep in mind not to mix religion and politics and this guy is claiming that a libertarian principle like gun rights is biblical. ummm the bible is not a libertarian book. libertarians believe in indiviual liberty and the bible teaches more authoritarian/collectivist ones like “freedom under god” (under a shadowy figure that knows everything you do, think, say every moment, every second of every day). and churches should not recieve tax exempt status, they should have to pay w/e taxes anyone else does as property owners. also the tax exempt status doesn’t seem to apply since pastors go political anyways.

For anyone who reads… I just have to ask that we keep religion out of this movement. I’m all for freedom of religion. But putting a religious message in 9/11 Truth, or Libertarianism distorts what I think we are all trying to achieve. Liberty. I went to this church service over the weekend with a congregation full of anti-nwo 9/11 truthers. And all of a sudden all I started hearing was gay bashing. Thats something I just cannot stand for. We are for liberty and that means liberty for everyone, including homosexuals. If you think God objects to that lifestyle, let god sort it out. We have no business dictating peoples lives. So please, to anyone who reads this, lets try to keep religion out of this movement as much as possible… Thank you.

My pastors from an organization I was with in my teen and young adult years were very political. The books they suggested for reading included works of gulag survivor Solzhenitzen. Also were books like None Dare Call It Treason, None Dare Call It Conspiracy, The Business End of Government, The Law, which unveiled the Federal Reserve and other shadow government activities. I was horrified to see the plans of these underworld lords unfold time and time again. The organization was in trouble with the IRS after it was endorsing US Constitution/Bill of Rights classes called “Blessings Of Liberty” taught by a Senator in Maine and some campaigned for his election. Must have been the 501C3 law issue.

Travis, I disagree with you. One of the principles that this country was founded on was religious freedom. This was one of the reasons people came to this country. Every form of government is founded on some sort of religion. “In God We Trust ” is on our money. The founding fathers who authored the Declaration of Independence and later the Constitution of the United States of America CLEARLY understood that the rights and freedoms they enjoyed were given to them by God. Our rights are God given, not given to us by ANY form of government! The purpose of the Constitution was to delineate those rights and protect those rights by LIMITING government. I believe that when God created humankind, he put the desire to be free in our hearts and minds; it is part of who we are. The NWO may shakle us, put us in prison camps, kill us or whatever, but they will NEVER be able to quench the God given human desire to be free! Church and politics should be separate. Unfortunately, unlike your pastor in this article, most churches preach nothing but politics….which is leading this country toward a theocracy. As for the abortion thing, the bible doesn’t forbid it and buybull god actually kills or commands the killing of both the born, and the unborn (ripping them from their mother’s wombs). What we have here is an author who hasn’t even read the bible. As for health care reform, that is both the constitutional, and human thing to do. That issue is in line with the bible not that the buybull should be consulted on health care or abortion or anything else when it comes to public policy.

While this is a well researched and well written study it is like most traditional Romans 13 studies in that it comes from a Greek/Roman mindset and completely overlooks the crucial facts that directly influence this composition to the Romans. Facts such as that the writer of Romans is a messianic rabbi (a Jewish rabbi who is a disciple of Jewish Messiah, Jesus), who continued to attend daily activities in the Temple and was a part of the Temple religious hierarchy or authorities. With this perspective one gains a more accurate understanding of the letter to the Romans. The mp3 files takes one through Romans 13 from a messianic Jewish perspective.

So good to know how our govt. manipulates the church- so many people will not believe that their pastors are censored. Christ found me about 12 years ago and I was saved with a bible in my hand all by myself in a motel. At the insistence of some acquaintances I began visiting churches- about 5 in all before I settled on a First Baptist- and it wasn’t long before I (and my wife) began to have stirrings in our spirits- it just seemed like a motion we were going through and we felt that, although the bible was preached, it was not all being preached, and no one was being challenged to do anything but join choir or a small group or volunteer, etc. We were even married at the church–but not even that combined with the fact we were well-liked there could keep us there. We stopped going and never returned. To ANY church.
Since I did a paper for college in 1989 on the BCCI scandal , I have believed w/my whole heart that research into the true activities of govts is crucial and necessary in order to know where you stand and what place you give your leaders. I always research all facets and spins off of the main news, coupled with plenty of counter-research from “alternative” media and “conspiracy nuts” and do it all with a filtered lens of discernment, following logic and reason rather than emotion. I saw Loose Change as soon as it was out and soon after discovered Alex Jones. I did not immediately jump aboard, in fact, it took months for me to research the topics that Alex was covering and Alex himself…it turned out that he happened to be dead-on about 80% of the things he was talking about and the other 20% were warnings of POSSIBLE outrages that were postulated by looking at the evidence and coming to conclusions based on it…but have not heard any lies or “propaganda”. Since seeing Fall of the Republic, I now know that he is not looking to make tons of $$ but to confront us all with our complacency by giving us the best and simplest facts that PROVE the mass manipulation of us all. I almost cried as the part of how men are missing their destinies because of obsession with sports culture- I have long philosophised about this in close company and it’s great to see someone else acknowledge just how bad it has gotten.
Leave your churches behind and don’t go ANYWHERE where you are not getting the whole truth about our current state of being. I have not been to church in years and my wife and I are teaching our children about God’s truth by living in it ourselves, showing faith in good times and bad and by not getting excited about much of the world’s offerings, but by living a joyful life without focus on activites or things. Keep away from mainstream T.V. shows and for God’s sake, enough obsessing over sports!!

Texassss is right. Our Lord Jesus one this war at the cross. He defeated sin and death by becoming the sacrifice for our sins. If we believe He has died for us, we are God’s children. So what do we have to fear?
On the other hand, it is important to be aware of the culture we live in. These problems, conspiracies, tensions can be a great way for Christians to show that the peace of Christ is real. I recommend checking out Richard Wurmbrand. He loved Jesus, but he also knew a great deal about communism and used his knowledge to win people to Christ.

Romans 13
The Higher Liberty

When I first began to talk about government and the Bible in the same paragraphs, I heard people respond with quotes from Romans 13 probably more than any other verse. It Reads:
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” Romans 13: 1
Of course we should honor true authority, such as our Father and Mother, or others that God places over us (or we go under by contract and agreement), but is that even what Romans 13 is talking about? Have we been completely misled about the meaning of that scripture by Paul?
The Greek word exousia translated in Romans 13:1 as power or authority actually means the “right to choose”, the “power of choice, liberty of doing as one pleases.”1
It is also translated as the word “right” in Revelations.
“Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have [exousia] right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Re 22:14
The whole idea of the tree of life is about choice and the right to choose, to obey God, and follow him and not your own willfulness. Nor are we to go under the will of other men and their created institutions which may establish an authority over us as we see with Cain, Nimrod and Pharaoh.
Paul is simply telling you in Romans 13 that you should remain subject to the better or higher liberty or right to choose.

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matt 18:20)
In America, there has been a separation of Church and State. Exactly what that separation means can be debated. What cannot be debated is what is written in the Constitution of the United States, also known as the Bill of Rights. Article One of that Constitution states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
That statement was not made to create rights in a government, a government assumedly created by the Constitution of the united States. That article was made to make it clear that no right or privilege was granted to government to make laws respecting an establishment of or prohibiting the free exercise of religion.
“Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that [is] among them.” (Le 15:31)
All religions and churches should be exempt from government influence. As we look out into America, can we say that this is still true or does it appear that government today both establishes religion and prohibits religion and churches? Are churches subject to strict operational restrictions by government authority?
“And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth [his] sheep from the goats:” (Mt. 25:32)
Who is supposed to establish a church and when is it established?
I have been told more times than I care to recall that all churches must file 1023 forms and become tax-exempt as a 501c(3) church. People have quoted Paul’s letter to the Romans over and over again. They declare that we are required to apply for tax-exempt status as a 501c(3) church because “it is the law.”
Is it the LAW? Is it required by law or statute or regulation or rule that a church must apply to the state or be established by the state as a corporation of the State? What is required to become exempt?
The Internal Revenue states that, “The following organizations will be considered tax exempt under section 501c(3) even if they do not file Form 1023: (a) churches, their integrated auxiliaries, and conventions or associations of churches,…”1
“Some organizations are not required to file form 1023. These include: Churches, interchurch organizations of local units of a church, conventions or association of a church, such as a men’s or women’s organization, religious school, mission society, or youth group.”
“These organizations are exempt automatically if they meet the requirements of section 501c(3). However, if the organization wants to establish its exemption with the Internal Revenue Service and receive a ruling or determination letter recognizing its exempt status, it should file Form 1023 with the key District Director.”2
By this, we can see that churches are ‘automatically exempt and are not required to file’. The publication does go on to say that “these organizations are exempt automatically if they meet the requirements”. Two questions should be asked:

My husband is a born again licensed preacher. Though he’s on hiatus now, for 9-10 years he did street ministry. He would go into the projects of the Tampa FL area with a local church’s pastor and spread the gospel to the locals on the streets. Also spent apx. 8 years working an outdoor feeding ministry. Both of these ministries entailed dealing with the homeless, drunks, drug addicts and prostitutes. I would help when possible because of my workshift. He’s never had a desire for a position in the church. His calling is spreading the gospel to the lost and helping them out when possible.
When you’re married to someone who every single day studies the word of God, prays and you know they love the Lord with all their heart, soul and strength, you are simply blessed.

By definition churches are incorporated under Christ. (See Black’s Law dictionary)
By law, churches are tax exempt. (See IRS section 508)
Also by law, when you incorporate legally, you disavow any previous incorporation.
So, when all those churches out there re-incorporated under 501(c)(3), they disavowed their true incorporation under Christ. Now they are under the government of this world. And that is how they become subject to the restrictions on lobbying and political speech.
We need more churches to understand the legalities of what they are doing when they make such important choices. I would guess that most pastors just go along with what their advisors told them they “had” to do, or inherited what the last guy did. Don’t be slothful, find out for yourselves!

Take a moment for thought. Consider God’s appointed shepherds around the world, past and present, who have been abducted, imprisoned, tortured, or murdered (perhaps all listed taken in combined action) for warning God’s flock against wordly, wicked leadership… whether local, state, national, or international. God’s shepherds and flock have abdicated their responsibility to God and have surrendered themselves to the wolves, in part, via tax exempt status.
Pastors in Germany warned congregations of the evil intentions of Adolph Hitler and the Nazi party. There were Nazi spies/loyalists peppered in congregations across Germany. In many sad cases pastors were murdered for their adherence to God’s word.
Ponder the seven churches spoken of in Revelation. Regardless of what titled church to which you belong, as individuals and congregations we either adhere to God’s word, unaltered and whole, or we do not.

To the author of this article;The way I see it the bible when interpreted literaly, is one of our biggest problems.The bible clearly instructs people to submit to the powers that be,”authorities” because those powers are supposedly ordained by God. The bible also teaches that ”rebellion is of the devil” even when that rebellion is clearly needed.
I have read the bible and I am ceartain that bibical teaching is not a firm foundation for individual liberty,if anything it a great foundation for global enslavement.

I don’t agree with your choice to attend church, nor do I agree with the majority of ignorance the church preaches. But I do agree with your point that pastors should inform their congregations about current political issues and if they relate them to the bible and the members of the church find that is the right way to ignite their political minds then thats great. I hope one day any and all religions will speak out to their followers and let them know who the real enemy is. Maybe we can make people care. And as a side note to the retards arguing about which church is right and so on and so forth. None of them are right or all of them are right. I’d be the last person to enter a church and the first person to burn one down but that doesn’t mean people don’t have a right to believe what they want. I could go on for pages about all the lies and deciet inherent in all religions, especially christianity, but I wont. I simply believe that no matter which church you attend you are a christian and therefore you are on the same side of the fence and should stop bickering. it isn’t other christians that are your enemies, it is the government that is your enemy and the banks. I hate both sides of your christian argument but I would fight along side you in order to preserve my ability to believe as I do. The point of this article isn’t whose faith is right but more that even in what seems like a simple issue , Your freedom of speech and belief, there are grey areas and you can’t always say what you wish. Maybe you should read up on some of the brilliant minds that helped bring about your ability to speak and believe free such as voltaire, rousseau, hobbes, smith. While I appreciate discussing politics at almost any time and any place, I don’t believe that political issues need to be directly discussed via the pulpit. In John 15:19, Jesus says, “…you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world…(NLT);” and, Philippians 4:19 states, “And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (AMP).” I don’t have to be affected by the fluctuations of this temporal world, if I believe what the Word of God tells me. And if my finances or anything else begin to be affected, then God supplies or fills that need. In other words, Satan tries to steal more of my money through excessive taxing, God will replace that stolen money. And as it relates to health care: God is my “health care provider.” Hallelujah! No matter what Satan tries to throw at me, I have armor and arms with the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 6:7)! It is good to be informed about what is happening in our nation, but talk radio and Fox News will give us all the information we need. If the church preaches God’s Word, then no matter what comes our way, we can overcome it!
Last, but not least, let’s not forget about the power of prayer changing the way we see things going. We can influence the outcome of events before they reach our checking accounts or our health insurance, but even if we don’t, God still makes a way starting with the versed above. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (KJV) Everything we need to change our situation personally, communally, nationally, and globally is in the Word. Get the world’s “facts” and change them to be the Word’s facts!
I am reminded of the story of the FBI counterfeit currency training. The FBI lock their agents in a room with real currency for weeks, studying every detail of it for the entire time. From the moment this training is over, these agents can spot counterfeit money instantaneously, never having seen counterfeit money….only the real deal. Know the word, know the truth, and then you’ll know the lies.

You folks all fail to mention that Christianity has simply served to enslave; to keep everyone in line, to keep everyone seen and not heard. I was raised a Lutheran, Missouri Synod. I went to private school, K-12. While no one in the church ever personally wronged me, I became disenchanted after studying theology during my junior and senior year of highschool. It became very clear how Augsburg & Trent & Nicea served to manipulate the ancient texts to man’s own devise. I took note of the hipocrisy surrounding me, the ignorant Amero-Christian pride & nationalism that was rampant throughout… and I walked away. Since then, I’ve been inside a church for two weddings and a funeral, out of respect for the flawed beliefs and wishes of friends and family. After doing a significant amount of research, it’s very clear that no “god” put humans on this planetl it’s quite clear that the “angels” in the bible were simply ET’s. This planet is merely their aquarium, and we are their goldfish. I’m not saying that there is no good or evil; I’m not saying that there is no higher power… I am merely saying that it is NOT at all how you perceive or believe it to be. Wake up.

My my, what a lot of ‘religious’ talk. Amazing how much time and chatter can be spent on splitting hairs and throwing mud within the so-called religious communities.
Although I don’t deny the importance of the tax-exempt issue or the author’s main points, I found it curious that the major evils listed of our society and government did not mention or include the endless War On Terror incorporated. He spoke of christians being misled by lust for money and never mentioned that over 50% of our national budget goes to the military-industrial complex that in turn feeds our retirement fund coffers, and the U.S.’s ongoing terrorization of and war against the third world for purposes of economic gain.
At best this is incomplete or shortsighted. At worst this is complicit in what is America’s original sin: racism and greed.
War is a racket, said Smedley Butler. From what I read in the Gospels, any person who calls themself a christian but never questions the reality of what our “war system”/”empire system” is doing to our nation and to the world is really falling short of God’s calling and mandate. I would say they are a part of problem and not part of the solution.
Jesus said, “love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you”. Yes you have a right to protect yourself or your family on a personal here-and-now level, but that is a radically different thing than supporting a national-corporate system that routinely attacks and pilfers the sovereignty of other nations.
Do the honest and bold research: who creates more terror in the world than anyone else?
