Editor’s note: High gas prices are the fault of a “energy market turned upside-down,” and have nothing to do with a conspiracy to fleece the commoners. Sure. And there is a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.
Crude oil prices have fallen to new lows for this year. So you’d think gas prices would sink right along with them.
Not so.
On Thursday, for example, crude oil closed just under $34 a barrel, its lowest point for 2009. But the national average price of a gallon of gas rose to $1.95 on the same day, its peak for the year. On Friday gas went a penny higher.
To drivers once again grimacing as they tank up, it sounds like a conspiracy. But it has more to do with an energy market turned upside-down that has left gas cut off from its usual economic moorings.
The price of gas is indeed tied to oil. It’s just a matter of which oil.
The benchmark for crude oil prices is West Texas Intermediate, drilled exactly where you would imagine. That’s the price, set at the New York Mercantile Exchange, that you see quoted on business channels and in the morning paper.
Right now, in an unusual market trend, West Texas crude is selling for much less than inferior grades of crude from other places around the world. A severe economic downturn has left U.S. storage facilities brimming with it, sending prices for the premium crude to five-year lows.

I know this is a broad question but… Is this article accurate or just a bunch of BS? I know oil pricing is complex, but given the last few years we all know its fixed. Lindsay williams said that the price of oil would stay below $50 and gas would stay around $1.50. Granted he does not know everything but i wonder what has changed. WHO or WHAT is driving the prices back up even though oil is dirt cheap? Anyone know or care to speculate?

Look man…it is all controlled. When I worked in Wyoming on oil rigs we would drill…strike oil and cap off. I asked why and was told it was new oil and wouldn’t bring in as much as “old” oil. They wait 4 years then it becomes old oil and they begin to pump it out at the higher price.
THERE ARE 100’s OF CAPPED WELLES IN WYOMING. THE oil company’s want to use everyone else’s oil first then they can get what ever they want for “ours”

The oil companies are virtual monopolies in violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act; however, the Justice Dept of any administration is reluctant to oppose them, since every admin. is owned by them. They can set prices as they want, since they control oil at all levels of production and sale.

Lets see Exxon made Record profits of 42 Billion + last year, that is more money than the corporation I work for did in total gross revenues. Before Layoffs started after Xmas we employed almost 400,000 with living wages, and benefits, and facilitated global commerce. Now were taxed by supplying the Global Defense force to protect Oil supplies, while we let Public Corporations Buy, Sell, and Produce our Fuel for a profit. We also let them TELL us what is the Global supply of such product with NO OVERSIGHT. It is like having Enron not only do it’s own accounting, but also doing the Outside Auditor function for it also, then relying on that data to make choices. Until we start to threaten the OIL INDUSTRY with the N word, NATIONALIZATION we won’t see prices come down anytime soon to what they should be. We have seen what happens when the Banksters control everything, and are paying the price for that. Until we regain control over all aspects of our economy we are going to be held hostage, and wage slaves for all these enities.

It was back in the fall of 08 in Asheville NC and you could not find a gallon of gas anywhere. Then if you found some you had to sit in 1 mile lines and pay 4 pluss dollars a gal. There was no reason for the lack of fule then and I have not seen anything that explains why this happened. It was like when during Katrina but nothing had change last fall. Just the lack of fule and info. It was bad they even shut down schools in Asheville because of no gas for buses and still no explaination. Makes you wonder.

Check the memorandum to President Obama from the Orion Project about how we can solve the so-called “energy crisis” immediately:
http://www.theorionproject.org/Energy.pdf
Here’s a small quote from it:
“Unfortunately, many of the greatest advances in this area of science and technology have been illegally classified through abuses of the National Security Act, the Patent Law and other mechanisms. This needs to be corrected immediately. We have also identified brilliant scientists who wish to work with us to build these new energy technologies but they are being actively and aggressively prevented from doing so by illegal use of various national security provisions. One such scientist can create a prototype within 3-6 months that would permit every home and business in America to run on free, clean power.”

Your an idiot or a liar! Crude products like gasoline are manipulated both in terms of availability (perceived scarcity) and at the market level. Gasoline prices are rising because the oil companies are reducing production and shutting down refineries (check out California fight to keep refinery open). By doin this they reduce the amount of product (gasoline) available on the open market. Traders who are certainly in with the refinery leaders then increase their position based on this impending reduction of availabilty. There is so much room for maniulation it’s ridiculous! How many industries can control the market price of their product by simply producing less?? Demand will lesson in a slow economy but it will never cease, so simply produce just enough to maximize your profit after all that is the point of business in a capitalistic economy isnt it? In the vast majority of industries this model works at least for the most part as i dont know of a better model. The problem happens when the people living in an econmomy have certain life “needs” that they must pay far in order to function normaly in the economy. Gasoline has become a “need” in our economy and the economy of all industrialized nations. When a product becomes a “need” for the economy to function it is best handled by a governing body and not administered by those seeking to maximize profit. The amazing thing to me is that crude oil is located on public land and often these underground fields extend under private land but the oil companies have the right to extract this crude based on agreements with the government. The entire industry is a raquet as it always has been, even when gasoline was very cheap and even when Rockefeller bought his first oil field. The oil industry must be nationalized and research into new energies must move forward without the hindurance of corporate lobbiests hell-bent on slowing down such progress. A nationalized oil industry would take away the profit incetive and thus stabilize prices. Refining capacity and needs properly accessed ensuring that we have some refining headroom in the event of increased demand or disaster similar to that caused by a major huricane so that prices remain stable. Stability is the foundation of higher civilization as it allows the mind to be free.

Oil and gasoline are highly manipulated markets. The pricing is also very complicated. Just because the crude oil price is low, there are many other distillates that come from the crude oil. Home heating oil at this time of year is taking a big bite out of a barrel of crude and competing for the amount of oil that makes its way to becoming gasoline. So, some of what they say in the article is accurate, but they also should acknowledge the price fixing and manipulation that goes on.
Jimmy Reply:
February 16th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
Absolutely manipulated.
Now, when will natural resources, such as crude oil will become property of the population of a country, rather than some rich fat cat? What is the moral rationale for granting property rights to 1 or a few people, over the rest of the population? For as long as the few own, monopolize & manipulate our resources (at the point of their guns), we will always be at the mercy of their whim. Will this ever change? I guess not in our lifetimes, & perhaps never in this world. The same is true w/ the Federal Reserve. If “We The People” owned the profit the bankers make, instead of them, then the debt & the profit would balance each other out, & perhaps then, we would realize that not only is this profit irrational & immoral, is really “not needed” at all, for an economy to be able to function. The purpose of the paper currency is just so that we don’t have to carry gold or silver coins in our pockets, but also to provide a medium of exchange where things can be given a value, whether its labor, or goods & services, so that we can exchange for the same. The Fed has got-to-go if we are ever going to be Free & productive Nation ever again. At the rate we are going the NWO is just about to crush US into the 70 year echo (1939 – 2009) of Nazi Germany’s WWII.

Congress should have taken these big oil companies and busted them up into small little ones to teach them a lesson that they cannot make billions of dollars per quarter and fuck the consumer on the way. This article is BS with a capital “B”
I not only work in the oil industry I have friends who for years have worked for the oil refineries. They told me recently that the oil companies are slowing production down (I.E. making less gas, diesel etc.) because they are trying to get a shortage of product to boost prices. Think about it, it only makes sense. Right now, oil companies are storing huge amounts of crude, in tanks, barges, and even crude oil tankers, waiting for the day that oil prices will (and they will my friends) go up to $70 – $80 + bbl. range. Buy low sell high! So, by refining oil at the lower rate in a glutted market makes little sense in the eyes of an oil business man. Why not reduce production, store the cheep oil in everything you can hold it in and wait for the market to correct? Make sense?
You can bet your bottom dollar that someone somewhere will start a middle east war to disrupt the oil flow soon. Why, look at the OPEC nations? They are getting slammed by the low prices. Do you think they would have a problem with someone throwing a match in that region to get the prices up? NO. So who will stop the Zionist / US war machine when they bomb Iran? Not those countries! Even Russia may even join in just to block the oil to get their oil prices up. Does any of this make sense to anyone?

hear hear. Oil is business just like any other business, you do what’s best for profits. Of course I don’t agree with doing the wrong thing to boost profits – like starting false wars.
February 16th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
I wish gas prices would rise to $5/gal. That’ll force Americans to use less of it! Higher gas prices keeps people away from gas guzzlers.
February 16th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
So…
$34 + $10 = $44
Since gas was at $50 when prices where at $1.62 at the end of 2008 (according to the article) that should place gas prices at just under $1.50 or so, right?
What kind of fuzzy logic is this?
February 16th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
I swear, I was listening to talk radio earlier today and they said that a AAA spokesperson said the reason gas is going up is because oil companies have cut down production because we’re not using or buying enough of it.

gas is 3.60 to 6.40 a gallon this year, it can go up or down 1.00 or more in hours.
We think it cost us .80 because we don’t realize what a liter is.

Do you wonder who’s pocket that $4+ a gallon gas profit went into?
February 16th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
I want to see $7 gas. I want to see my neighbors suffer for their lack of concern and involvement.

Wasn’t it interesting when Fed Nazi Paulson wanted the bankster bailout immediately and they waited one day the market went down 700 points on that day? I still think they did that themselves.

Here is an interesting take on the gold standard. It’s something I failed to think about before going to the gold standard. Long video, but worth the wait.

That guy has the best ideas on what is going on. I swear his videos are being held back.
There are a number of problems with the gold standard but you can’t raise those concerns in here because there are a lot of people in the movement who have been told that only gold can be used and they will call you a traitor and what not if you disagree.
In reality there is no movement. There is a bunch of name calling, bull shit and in fighting though.

Editor’s note: High gas prices are the fault of a “energy market turned upside-down,” and have nothing to do with a conspiracy to fleece the commoners. Sure. And there is a bridge for sale in Brooklyn. and i have land for sale on mars

1. Gasoline is trading separately. Google RBOB
2. Oil Companies are producing Heating Oil not Gasoline right now.
3. Simple, Supply and Demand Economics.
4. Americans think they deserve 50 cents a gallon.

The entire excuse is pure BS. It sounds as if they’re saying that the WTI oil can’t get to the refineries because there are no pipelines, but surely someone is using this oil so where is it going and how is it getting there? A pipeline isn’t the only way to transfer crude. Even so, why not build the pipelines to use when WTI is cheaper. Put it in the stim plan. The cost of construction would stim the economy and create jobs a hell of a lot better than building Frisbee Golf courses will. Remember what Lindsey Williams said- by no means is the USA going to be allowed to be energy independent. We will continue to use foreign oil and foreign countries will use our oil. Interdependence is a tool of control because it forces everyone to watch everyone else. This is how one-world-government happens.
