Imagine if John McCain had whispered somewhere that he was willing to bankrupt a major industry? Would this declaration not immediately be front page news? Well, Barack Obama actually flat out told the San Francisco Chronicle (SF Gate) that he was willing to see the coal industry go bankrupt in a January 17, 2008 interview. The result? Nothing. This audio interview has been hidden from the public…until now. Here is the transcript of Obama’s statement about bankrupting the coal industry (emphasis mine):
Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

Alternative sources of Energy are necessary and need funding. Enough with the tax cuts to corporations like Exxon-Mobil etc.
We need to study the works of Nikola Tesla and start thinking about harnessing more Solar energy.
McCain doesn’t even understand computers and Palin thinks the world is 6,000 years old or something. They aren’t that technologically savvy in other words. Kind of just do what they’re told type people.

Tree huggers should be aware that solar panels are made from petrol chemicals. It is extremely expensive to be completely off grid. A cheap flexible panel has been invented but do you think they will allow it to go to market?
There is clean burning coal in Utah but Clinton closed it off. So these liar-bastards are condemning an industry that they have designed to pollute. Lignite contains mercury. That is the cole that is “ok” to mine.

In the meantime there is chemtrials everywhere and an ever increasing number of passenger Airplanes and many more private business jets owned by the same people who want to tax you for carbon emission and greenhouse gases. But, since we live in a world where most people are unable to think with there own minds, anything is now possible, anything!
I’ll give you an example in Canada. In Quebec they have recently passed a law where as of this year all automobiles need to have winter tires installed, mandatory. The year is “2008″ and the reason is for OUR OWN SAFETY.
It took until the year 2008 for the Government to be seriously concerned about our safety? Most conscious people who where concerned about there own safety did not require the Government to tell them about the advantage of winter tires have on snow.
Now, just for a split second, don’t you think the real reasons behind these winter tires is so that the Government makes a cut from each automobile with new winter tires and for the future now on ? What about those tire makers? Do you honestly think this had anything to do with the fact that they suddenly care about our safety or that of others, when they never showed any signs of this before? The year 2008 folks! How long have winter tires been around?
But, like there are so many hams in this world, some people think this is a very good thing and that safety is the reason behind this. It’s for our own good they say. In other words, they required there Government to tell them that all people should install winter tires on there cars because there own brain could not come up with this conclusion before.
So long as there is hams there will be Elitists doing as they please and our freedoms will be eliminated.

Knocking either Hillary or Palin for being a woman has become totally inappropriate. The focus has been on their experience and qualifications for public office.
Racial Intolerance: Barack Hussein Obama is half-Caucasian and half-African, with a Muslim-sounding name that reminds people of the two biggest bogeymen of the Neocons stage-managed War On Terror: Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden.
It is nothing short of astonishing that so many traditionally intolerant members of our society are letting go of their prejudices and voting for the candidate who is better for the country, rather than out of instinctive, xenophobic fear of a race or a purported religion.
The scars of the Civil War still remain in the division between the “red” and “blue” states, which in the 2000 and 2004 elections was practically an identical map to how the Civil War went down with the states that were a part of the US at the time.
The South, of course, was the side that was fighting (in part) for the right to keep the slave trade alive. Now we have an election where a half-African man is actually winning the election in these very same states. This is of unspeakably vast importance in the opening of the hearts within the Heartland.
Colin Powell’s recent statements about anti-Muslim prejudice are just the beginning of a healing process that will very likely continue — and expand — if Obama takes the presidency.
Plots to assassinate Obama, and / or racially-motivated acts of hate, have had the very strong effect of exposing the ugliness and discomfort of racism, so that more and more people can choose NOT to think and act this way.
Religious Extremism: Sarah Palin’s nomination was so blatant in its attempt to pander to the extreme religious right that even the Evangelical Christians themselves are awakening to the shortcomings of “clinging to guns or religion.” Surprising numbers of them are changing their minds and actually waking up to how their extremist views have been manipulated to win elections.
Similarly, the people are now seeing the similarities between all different forms of religious extremism, whether Christian or Islamic. No one wants war — we are all wishing for greater peace and stability as a society.
The more we look at the relationship between government corruption, racism, us-versus-them thinking and religion, the more we realize that these great spiritual teachers would never have wanted us to turn against one another.
Generational Prejudice: Is it right to be prejudiced against people because of their age? With McCain being 72 years old, all these issues have been stirred up as well.
It has clearly been established that we should not be biased against McCain because of his age. Those attacks are simply not appropriate. It’s not about his age — it’s about whether he has the competence and vision to lead his country.
This is a valuable step, considering how many of us forget about elderly relatives once they are moved into ‘assisted living’ as if they are no longer thinking, feeling people who need our guidance and support.
Classism and Economic Segregation: The wealthiest members of our society have been able to turn us against each other, manipulating all the above prejudices as well as the basic concepts of “Republican” versus “Democrat,” but now the game has changed.
More than ever, the spotlight is being turned on the entrenched power structures. The scope of the public uprising over the 700-billion-dollar bailout is unprecedented in any modern history. The fatcats have already received the “kill shot,” and are now on the run, spilling blood as they go.
We shouldn’t gloat over their defeat, but rather be grateful that the public ignorance they have taken advantage of for so long is finally eliminating — and along with it comes freedom and a much greater prosperity in the long run.

The use of coal in energy production causes many major problems, usually on a greater scale than the use of oil or gas. Coal-burning produces acid rain, sulfur oxide emission, carbon dioxide emission, poorer land, hazardous waste, and other problems.

another thing about (sorry for not combining all these spontaneous posts) another thing about coal that no one has mentioned is the “mountain-top removal” they use, dumping all the millions of tons of tailings in the streams of the Appalachians, essentially leveling the Great Smokies, &c.
Another key factor is the refusal of these companies to comply with the laws passed under Clinton that required upgrades to scrubbers every time upgrading of any kind was performed, and the permission of the Bush admin to flout those laws — another archtypical Bush pandering to Big Energy while thumbing the nose at the Rule of Law.

First of all, nobody with a lick of sense, certainly no one with any credibility in any public policy circles says carbon dioxide is poison or that the issue is remotely related to toxicity. If a caller says that, they must be one in a hundred, and retarded. They are certainly not a spokesman for the Global Warming side, and it weakens Alex’s legitimate points about sunspots and their very palpable link to earth temperature when he refers to that.
