British airline bosses have today demanded an easing of ‘completely redundant’ airport checks for passengers including removing shoes and checking laptops separately.
British Airways chairman Martin Broughton said the UK should stop bowing to US demands for increased security.
He added there was no need to ‘kowtow to the Americans every time they wanted something done’, especially when this involved checks the US did not impose on its own domestic routes.
Today, Mike Carrivick, chief executive of BAR UK, which represents more than 80 scheduled airlines in the UK, said the whole question of airport security needed to be looked at.
