Barack Obama may recruit defence chief Robert Gates

FLASHBACK: One of Obama’s chief advisers, Zbigniew Brzezinski, co-chaired a CFR report with Robert Gates shortly before Gates was appointed Defense Secretary entitled “Iran: Time for a New Approach.” [PDF]
In defiance of traditional party labels, Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, may ask the defence secretary of President George W Bush to stay on if he wins the White House.
Obama’s top foreign policy and national security advisers are pressing the case for keeping Robert Gates at the Pentagon after he won widespread praise for his performance. The move would be in keeping with Obama’s desire to appoint a cabinet of all the talents.
After appealing for unity with former rival Hillary Clinton and her supporters and big donors last week, Obama, 46, is turning his attention to wooing Republicans and independent voters who may be concerned that he lacks the experience to be trusted with America’s defence.

Richard Danzig, an adviser to Obama on national security and a former navy secretary, said: “My personal position is Gates is a very good secretary of defence and would be an even better one in an Obama administration.”
The appointment would cause a furore among Democratic party activists but would have the advantage of providing continuity at a time when Iraq appears to be stabilising and demanding more independence from America.
Ivo Daalder of the Brookings Institution in Washington, a foreign policy adviser to Obama, said: “Robert Gates is one of the best defence secretaries we have had in a long time and it makes a lot of sense to keep him.”

I don’t believe a word of that. No matter what anybody personally thinks of Barack Obama, he’s
not stupid enough to appoint anybody who was appointed by George Bush. The first thing you
have to realize is that anybody who worked for W had to sell his soul to get his job.

Actually, I believe Obama would consider Gates to stay on. Just like Bush had the CIA director stay on. They, both Democrats and Republicans have the same goals. They just use different means that end in the same results.

most of these people and their relatives before them (same stale ideas and mindsets carried forward) have been in positions of power for 50+ years, just re-cycled and moved around from agency to agency, cabinet to cabinet. Nepotism at it’s finest, never mind qualifications, don’t need no stinkin’ qualifications. Play the game correctly and you get promoted with greater position and power.
They have been working behind the scenes for decades; do some research and stop believing just what you’re told.

I think I might be on to something…..I’ve been pondering Alex’s comments about mexican conquistas (not sure how it’s spelt …I’m from down under?) and the marshall law plans….the three way war with bosnia hertzegovena was destructive and unable to be solved for years. Without the un moving in to maintain peace it would have gone on (still goes on for years)…tying america up for years might free them up to move on other nations…..freedom loving america wouldn’t stand for other nations being overtaken, so therefore the US has to fall first. Sorry if this is obvious to everyone – I’m only 6 months awake.

Ausgirl… It’s “reconquistas” (which essentially means “reclaimers”) and you also spelled “marshall law” wrong- it’s “martial law”.
Oh yes, it is DEFINITELY in the plan for the U.S. to fall, and the situation with Mexico is one more way for them to kick at our foundation. We are being assaulted at every conceivable angle, and eventually they will send in some global peacekeeping force (in the Bible, it says the antichrist’ armies will have blue helmets or something- maybe it’s the UN, they have blue helmets. I wish I could remember which part of Revelations that was) to “pose as our saviours”, as Alex would say.

There is no way in the world that this article is true. Even though Barack Obama wants to try to put together a bipartisan white house. He would never choose anyone from that has had anything to do with the failed bush administration. Including Robert Gates.

Of course a president Obama would have CFR members like Gates, and maybe even Colin Powell, the CFR member who described himself as a ‘Rockefeller Republican’. David Rockefeller is the Chairman Emeritus of the CFR. Obama is for ‘CHANGE’ alright! CFR members have been in all the key positions in EVERY presidential cabinet and appointments since Hoover, who was a CFR member himself way back then.
