Biden: FDR Led During Last Crash

Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says today’s leaders should take a lesson from the history books and follow fellow Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt’s response to a financial crisis.
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened,’” Barack Obama’s running mate recently told the “CBS Evening News.”
Except, Republican Herbert Hoover was in office when the stock market crashed in October 1929.
FDR was elected three years later when voters denied Hoover a second term. The Democratic challenger appealed to the “forgotten man” by promising a “new deal” to solve the Depression era.
Democrats usually like to remind the public that a Republican was president during the 1929 stock market crash. During the 2004 presidential election, John Kerry’s campaign repeatedly cited Hoover as the last president until George W. Bush to oversee a loss of jobs during his time in office.

Well the Democrats have a precedent on the matter to be proud of, and something that represented the opposite of what todays democratic “leadership” represents. To get to the point of were we are today FDR’s Bretton Woods system had to be broken up (fixed exchange rates between nations, gold standard, and it was attached to the physical economy itself) the Glass Steagal Act which banned charter banks from engaging in speculation, something that has long been forgotten. And people also don’t realize that FDR took Wall Street to trial w/ prosecutor Ferdinand Pecora, and was always @ odds w/ the “money changers” and the “economic royalists”.
FDR also believed in a modest foreign policy (good neighbor policy) the Monroe Doctrine, and the Treaty of Westphalia to recognize independent nation states, while he attempted to end colonialism of the British Empire before his untimely death.
Republicans need to heed his advice, and recognize his precedents “Speak not of parties… but of universal principles”
we need someone in the federal government to step up to the plate and use government intervention in regards to the economy for the better right now. Being “traditionally” conservative and having faith in free markets is the almost a religious dogma @ this point in time.
Alexander Hamilton, Henry C. Carey and FDR were federalists, and were very right that the federal government should intervene in such matters, because free markets are manipulated, and there needs to be firewalls in place appropriately.

My grandfather used to tell me about how his family would sit around the television and watch FDR. And my great-great-grandfather regaled about watching the Lincoln-Douglas debates on TV. Then there’s the footage of Brutus stabbing Caesar, which is even more shocking than Ruby shooting Patsy.

What I find quite humourous (humorous) is that I’m born and raised and lived in Canada my whole life and know US history better then the guy running for Vice President. The first time any US president appeared on TV was in 1939 and it was FDR. It was at the New York Worlds Fair.

So the Great Depression lasted from 1929 to 1932 and then ended before FDR was around to fix it? Senator Biden obviously made a difficult-to-follow trasition, referring first to the stock market crash, and then to FDR’s response to it which WAS broadcast over television at the World’s Fair. FDR is oft credited with not only leading our nation through the depression that was caused by the stock market crash, AND being the first president to appear on TV.
There is NOTHING incorrect about Biden’s statement, except for the sentax that leads a listener to believe that these two events happened in quick succession.
C’mon, it’s not like he told the people Iraq was responsible for 9/11, or that the fundamentals of our economy are sound while the stock market is in the midst of a crash…

#11 does it make sense to say tv wasn’t around until 1949? When Japan attacked Pearl Habour FDR was seen on TV stating that was a “day of infamy”. The first TV image was in 1928 the first time TV was shown to the public was in 1934 in Philly. NBC started network broadcasting in 1939. There were many more TV firsts in 1930’s

It’s a damn shame that Biden and Obama don’t represent the FDR legacy of the democratic party, which JFK later ran on as well. Just the opposite really, as evident in their “it had to be done” attitude towards the bail out.
Infact Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer are the only 2 senators to do anything worth a s---, by proposing revivals of FDR’s measures during the great depression this past weekend. Though of course the Pelosi crowd is rivaling them, and you don’t hear about what Schumer and Clinton did on the media.
I’m not endorsing either senators, but there are varying degrees of corruption, as most senators are, but atleast they give a s--- about the lower 80% of income brackets enough to try to do something for the people.

FDR was just as truly American as any president, freemason or not… not all freemasons are bad, thats the kind of thing that gives conspriacy theories a whole twist of their own. It’s like a fraternity for rich people, he was born into a wealthy family, but always raised not to give a s--- about the wealth, and more about the roots of his family. A picture of Issac Roosevelt hung in his living room in Hyde Park and was the closest allie to Alexander Hamilton whom founded the American System of Economics that influenced Henry C. Carey, Abe Lincoln, and later FDR. FDR even penned a paper while @ Harvard on the American System of Economics, the traitor Aaron Burr, and explicitly told Winston Churchhill during WWII that the British System must be abolished if we’re never to have a world war in the name of globalization or colinialism anymore.
Free Markets and no government intervention is a dogma that sounds nice, but without government protection free markets get turned into fascist states. Government intervention being bad regardless of such, along with big government always being negative is the worst dogma we can have. FDR set many precidents that need to be followed in the name of this country right now.
- Take Wall Street to court (he did it, see Ferdinand Pecora and the Trial of Wall Street)

He ran the New Deal on Federal Credits as proposed by the federalist founding fathers in the height of a crisis, and proved that technoligy, science, and infrastructure technology could all pay for itself in the long run by our mere influence… which is the proposal of The American System which was suposed to serve as the port nation for all, w/ alliences with none… advice he took during the war as well…. outside of Stalin, but he was smart for recognizing the bats--- crazy man for the sake of world peace. He even told Einstein that he wasnt going to drop such a bomb on any country, fearing the consiquences of such in the long run for humanity… then he died… and the anglo file Truman came into office after FDR was forced to drop his VP Henry Wallace.

For FDR spoke of Universal Principles, not of political parties, which to this day even divides some of the most educated people whom talk politics, and its sad.
Hamilton, Lincoln, Henry C. Carey, McKinley, FDR all knew what the hell they were doing, and what forces they were against.

First satan has no power to create. if you read your bible, it states that hell was created for satan and his domonic demons By GOD.. Because God is eternal and we are created in his image, which is a spirit but we have a physical body that occupies time. So we are two parts really. spiritual and material.(flesh) So those who reject Christ will spend an eternity in hell. The 144 thousand you mentioned are not the only ones who will be saved. they are the ones who where sealed by God for the end time tribulation period, who will preach the gospel. The word of God says anyone who calls on the name of the Lord and repents of their sins will be saved. And true god does not like murder, read the old testement,filled with violance. Also in psalms it actually states that God hates all those who does wrong and that He is angry every day. Our God is a god of love but his justice is equal to his mercy and love. His justice demands judgement. That’s why Christ was neccesary , to appease god’s justice. god is a consuming fire. poeple need to stop trying to equate god with humanity and their finite thinking. God is infinite and HOLY , he desires pure worship and adoration, because he is worthy to be praised. Don’t make God out to be like you. God is a mystery that will be forever unveiling himself in eternity.

Franklin Roosevelt helped institute nothing positive for the long term social, economic, or political health of this nation. He is one in a long line of patsies for the ‘good old boy’ network. You are seeing the long term effects of failed policies today.
The solution to our ills is like a spoonful of vinegar to an acidic stomach. It burns going down, but the long term outweighs the short term.

Hell was created by Satan and he brainwashed people into thinking that there was Hell–that seems false to me. Why would Satan make people think that there was a Hell if he wants them to sin and turn against God? Because don’t most people try not to sin because they don’t want to go to Hell? Just some things to think about.
