DHS: New airport security policy for kids under 12

COMMENT: Napolitano’s latest policy to curb pat-downs on children flies in the face of repeated assurances that TSA had already changed its policy towards children under 12, vowing back in November 2010 to end its underage touching. See below for more. Instead, the real focus seems to be on the roll-out of new MRI-scanning technology advertised for allowing passengers to keep their shoes on.

WASHINGTON — Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says the government will be rolling out a different airport pat-down policy for children under 12 in the coming months, and these children will no longer have to take off their shoes to be screened.

Napolitano says the traveling public can expect to see some of these changes in the coming months.
