Black Friday: shopping chaos hits the UK

The American shopping phenomenon, “Black Friday”, which traditionally sees people heading to shops the day after Thanksgiving, has now, it seems, reached the UK.

Stores across the UK were overwhelmed today by thousands of bargain hunters seeking pre-Christmas deals. Video footage taken in the Asda superstore in Ayr, Scotland shows cutomers grabbing TVs, which were reduced from £179 to £99 as part of the shop’s “Black Friday” special offers.

In a statement Asda described the response to its first Black Friday deal saying: “This is the first time Black Friday has been done on this scale in stores across the UK and our customers were eager to take advantage of the great offers available to them.
