Five Blackwater Worldwide security guards charged in the shooting deaths of 14 Iraqi civilians last year turned themselves in to federal authorities in Salt Lake City this morning, according to their attorneys, and the Justice Department unsealed a 35-count indictment against them.
The five guards were indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Washington in connection with the shooting, which occurred Sept. 16, 2007, in Baghdad’s bustling Nisoor Square. The indictment said all five were charged with voluntary manslaughter; attempt to commit manslaughter; and using and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
A sixth security guard, Jeremy P. Ridgeway, pleaded guilty Friday to charges of voluntary manslaughter and attempt to commit voluntary manslaughter, according to papers filed in court today.

Can anyone please tell me how these Blackwater guards are being indicted in American courts since it happened on Iraq soil? Not only that but there is a law in place that FULLY protects private armed security guards from ANY type of prosecution while in Iraq, even if they made blatant mistakes. The law is very strongly worded to protect almost ANYTHING Blackwater personal may have caused or did, even killing innocent civilians during a fire fight.
So, even though you or I may not agree or like what happen over in Iraq, there is a LAW in place that states that these Blackwater Guards can NOT be held responsible if they were on official assignment when this happened, and they were.
I do NOT have a “dog in the race” and even hate Blackwater for what they did to US citizens during Hurricane Katrina but doesn’t anyone else find it extremely strange how this is being handled?

I do not work for Blackwater but I do work for another private security detachment for the Dept. of State contracted for protective services. I have been coming here to infowars for many months and agree with almost everything Alex is saying & doing. I’m also amazed at just how much is surpassed from the public and by Alex’s insight in finding the real truth 80% of the time. But like all of us he is “off” target at times.
I do NOT agree with what happen during hurricane Katrina or what SOME of the Blackwater SD’s did to civilians down there.
I hold our US Constitution above ALL and will do everything in my power to defend it and my fellow Americans rights. I, no many of us, will NOT ever follow an order that conflicts with the Constitution and will consider any order to do so, as an illegal & criminal action on the part of my CO or “other”.

I agree with PMCS that this prosecution seems totally improper. I fail to see how American laws apply in Iraq except for U.S. troops being subject to UCMJ. I can’t imagine why anyone would plead guilty since jurisdiction stands out as an obvious problem for the prosecution. International courts exist for the purpose of trying cases such as this. These men should be tried by an international court and if found guilty, sentenced appropriately according to local Iraqi law. When you’re in someone’s house, you follow their rules.

Here’s a law i can live with: Any soldier, mercenary, secret agency (Delta, special opps ect.) that kills a unarmed civilians must be brought to an international court system where they are to be tried by a jury of their peers for murder. If suspected of murdering civilians even if you are a secret agent working from anywhere in the world you are to be followed by a gang of poperotzi (spelling?) 24/7. They are to be filmed/ photographed doing everyday activities like where they shop, eat and what there family looks like what they do ect. till there trial has reached a conclusion. All film/photographs taken will be posted on a site like U-tube for the world to see. Governors and monarchs included and cannot be reversed by any new laws.—We have U-tube like sites now, all we need is some good lawyers and a civilian militia to back them with force if necessary.So keep filming the lawyers will eventually join in.

Makes me so happy that the Blackwater Mercs were found guilty. I can not stand seeing these evil men killing for sport. Prasie the Lord for seeing that these cold blooded A-holes are never going to terrorize anyone ever again.

Number 81 they have not been found guilty of anything at this point in time, they are under indictment. But in your pea brain the trial is over and its time to get a rope. Were you there that day? Do you know what happened? It amazes me that you can make the judgments that you do and you really know nothing about the incident. A jury will listen to the evidence and decide if these men are “evil men killing for sport”. Don’t be so quick to “praise the Lord” as you don’t have the facts and really don’t know about quilt or innocence.

There’s nothing wrong with these Blackwater scum that a brick wall and blindfold wouldn’t cure. They deserve to be shot by the relatives of the people they gunned down.
We can only hope they all get 30 years without possibility of parole. The death penalty would be more fitting, but this was downgraded “Manslaughter” instead of what it really was – COLD-BLOODED MURDER.
I suspect that is so because the victims were Iraqis. Had they been Americans, they would not have fared so well.

#84 I heard the word on that. Surely, this heinous violation of International law would also morally and publicly qualify as a violation of the Govt’s terms in the contract they signed…if not, somebody up top needs to be on trial by fire. So since they aren’t really military per se, Black Water’s rogue assassins who are technically rent-a-security guards ought to be subject to extradition easily like any civilian criminal. Let the Iraqis hang these Hessian pirates.

Okay, let’s wake up to the documented facts in history that when unscrupulous power mad leaders of empires have some special dirty work they want carried out, but they want to keep a lid on it (besides, no soldier with a conscience has to carry out illegal orders), they hire expensive thugs to be the torpedos. What else would be the legitimate reason? We have trained special ops units for every covert mission purpose on land, air, and sea. Sorry, looking at Black Water’s track record, including the Katrina raids (a brutish infringement of rights and privacy NOT a rescue with provisions), I just gotta vote thumbs down for these scumbags. Who’s heard of anything good these mercenaries have done? To me, they just go against any kind of notion for protective security for the public in principle alone. I knew a guy who ran across a bunch of them sitting at a rest stop outside their black van and he noticed all the gear they were sportin’ with their vague black uniforms and the stupid bear patches. Seeing them for the first time, he merely asked them “Wow! who are you guys?” They just snotted back with “never mind who we are…mind your own business and keep movin’.” Complete assholes !

How does a disciplined, well trained military unit with a clear understanding of its mission go berserk like these Blackwater men did and murder innocent civilians?
Let’s look at the qualifiers: Discipline…clearly lacking but, due to what? Hangovers?
Training…no rules of engagement here, just panic and KILL.
Understanding…yea, we understand, you give us $600+ per diem and we build the hell-on-wheels ego that goes with it.
Maybe the truth will be revealed at trial. If I know anything, and based on past performance, the court will white-wash this tradgedy and seal the record. But, maybe I don’t know anything. Eyes front, keep moving, nothing to see here.

the day has come in this country that maybe the voices of our citizens trully need to be heard. maybe our u.s. military should be informed by its citizens (enmasse) that we have a terrorist private organized army opporating in the jurisdictional confins of united states. maybe it should be told to the u.s. army that as u.s. citizens that when it comes time for our senators and congress men to vote for the army to get more of our money, that until you rid our country of these operations like blackwater we will clamour to the likes of the market bailout, hell no to your money. learn your history and read your damn constitution people. the army is controlled by us. laugh if you like, dont believe me. i dont care, its the truth. through the democratic actions we take as country, we have a hand in what our military does. through democratic actions we determine how much money they get, if we go to war, and handling renegade operations like blackwater. now you say “what about the war in iraq” well that is easy to explain. through the manipulation of your patriotism. ‘patriots dont question the government in a time of national crisis.’ well personally i am part of generation that grew up in the fallout of vietnam and the first iraq war and we were taught this is the exact time to question. and the funny thing is being a military man and coming from a military family that if you read the military code of judiciary conduct that they are here for us as citizens. why do you think there is the seperation of the military and the government. because when it comes down to it, the military does not give a s--- about the government. its about the u.s. citizen. they view the government exactly how it is, an elected body that can be impeached and somebody else elected, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE. please as citizens of this country we need to educate ourselves on who we are and what we are as a country. and on a final note on this whole blackwater investigation. personally when you look at the constitution and all of the international treaties that would apply, operations like blackwater get everything they deserve. whether it be through judicial prosecution or through direct retaliation from the people they attack. they are an illegal international terroristic organization that should be handled accordingly.
