Border Patrol arrests are at 40-year lows. The weak economy and tougher immigration enforcement seem to be spurring more people to head south of the border than north.
And that made it difficult for the Border Patrol to fill the planes, finding the cost of flying Mexicans back home who were caught entering the country illegally hard to justify.
So the U.S. government has decided to halt the flights.
It is a money-saving move that ends a seven-year experiment that cost taxpayers nearly $100 million.
