I was not impressed with her lawyer at all. He should have been all over the fact that they made this kid strip down to his underwear, for the purpose of why? humiliation? punishment? thrills? He barely even mentioned it and talking about ” the room” the way he did, he almost sounded like he condoned it.

I think a great deal of people would prefer not to send their kids to public schools but MANY people cannot find the resources to allow themselves to go with private educations. In New England we are seeing private schools shutting down and or consolidating all over the place causing these systems to be VERY overloaded making it VERY difficult for parents to get their kids into these systems. You should also consider that the states can still impose laws and mandates towards these private schools that is often times making them no different than public schools. Most private schools are not that expensive to go to (ranging from $2500 – $7000 a year) but to my knowledge sending your kids to these schools does not reward you with reasonable tax deductions unless you are talking about colleges and universities and loans are taken out.
Many people are so distracted with being the “great american consumer” their budgets do not allow for such costs. It is unfortunate but in the same argument the quality line of public and private education is blurring and will soon be indistinguishable.
As for home schooling you need to consider the amount of bureaucracy a parent must go through in order to be allowed to home school. Most of us having gone through the public school systems are not prepared to become home school instructors because instead of being educated to a point of logic, we have been educated to the point of consumption and social division. Our parents were heavily indoctrinated to trust the system so it has become a beast that feeds itself.
So I do agree that people should be aware and concerned for their child’s education, sadly, they are conditioned to not think about the child until they are reaching the end of their state education. Education seems to have turned into nothing more that a business for non tangible consumption to reward big government and financial institutions.
We need to do something but the blinders need to come off and we need at least two generations of free thinkers to fix it and just about everything else. I’m not saying their isn’t hope but that flame is very dim.

GJ JP! I’m from New England too, so I know full well the bull shit that kids are taught at schools here. I think that the answer would be to get the unions out of education, and once again allowing schools to be competative. This would inevitably increase the quality. Unions lower the quality of education and promote mediocracy among educators. That’s why I am becoming a teacher, to try and reconstruct the system.

I am a single mom, with 2 college degrees, that was very excited to homeschool my son, not expecting my ex to take me to court for custody, and for the judge to take his side and agree that homeschooling was not appropriate for children…. I fought, and my son was in counseling for ocd and depression for almost 2 years due to fighting his dad. He remains in my custody, but he promised if I attempted homeschooling again, he would continue his fight, at the expense of my son’s sanity and well being. I’m not sure what to do next, but if things go as expected this fall and winter, I will be keeping him home no matter what.

I was in your situation once with the civil courts and all their crap. You can get out of it, but you have to become a ghost and leave a very thin paper trail. If you don’t have the patience or the resources it will wear you down, but it is possible. Stop using banks and credit, cash only. Work for cash only. Don’t pay taxes, don’t file returns, have friends register your car in their name and have you as a secondary on their car insurance- you pay for it all of course. It works. The system loses track of you and before you know it your child turns eighteen and they lose interest.
By then, you are OUT of the system. The IRS has never bothered me and now they can’t unless I voluntarily return to the system.

Also, I would suggest you read the book “The verbally abusive relationship”. It just might be helpful to understand that there is a reason for his behaviour and that he will probably continue to attempt to control you via your son, and no, he probably does not care about the damage inflicted on your son and he probably never will. I think there is plenty of fault everywhere. The parents, the student, the school, and most of all the doctors who diagnose all the ADHD/ODD crap. There is no such thing ad ADHD, only parents and teachers who want zombies because they are to busy or lazy to deal with their kids. I found it amazing that on an episode of NANNY 911 that a kid with “ADHD” was able to be brought back to reality without medication. It’s called discipline. I didn’t see or here anything about the child being mentally disabled. So there is no excuse period. Parents need to take responsibility for their kids because we all know that the schools aren’t smart enough or willing to do it. That being said I would be pissed if it was my kid. There is no reason for that treatment.

Sure skip, but I don’t think any blame could or should be put on the nine year old who has been made to feel that he is somehow “challenged” because none of the adults around him are capable of seeing him or treating him differently. I believe fault is as follows:
70% to parent
20% to school
10% to child
I don’t care that the child is only 9. I have 6 kids from 2-15. I will let you know children are alot smarter than people give them credit for. Again no mention of anything other than ADHD/ODD so I believe the child learned right from the start how to work the system, just like may welfare cases. They start off small to see what they can get away with then keep building until they are told it’s not their fault. KIDS ARE ALOT SMARTER THAN MOST THINK. If you dont believe this look at the 2-5 year olds that are in stores all over who scream, yell, and cry using the system to get what they want all the time.

hmmmm…It is nothing to do with the intelligence of the child. Psychologically speaking, kids are reactionary. If you give your kid a candy bar every time they ask and then they become 200 lbs overweight, it isn’t because the child is a glutton, it’s because you never told them NO. Although children are very smart, they are largely a product of their environment. And I still don’t see how the kid 10% deserved this kind of punishment.

Also, kids should not be confined to desks for 7 hrs/day, 5 days/week. For God’s sake, I almost went insane sitting at a desk. I was hyperactive, thank God, otherwise I wouldn’t be as successful as I am today. My dad realized that though my IQ was 146, I was much happier using my physical body, so I was encouraged along this line. Kids learn by discovery– not by lecture, and learn much more after they are let out of public “school” than in the classroom.
But they are given “Behavior modification” drugs such as Ritalin are given. Parents ought to be ashamed for drugging their kids up just so they’ll sit still.

This is bullshit.. We have to fight against this facsist nation that we are swimming in.. Its only a matter of time until the G20 protest control, moves to our local towns..

kj-You don’t kow what you’re talkng about. My daughter went to Catholic Grade School and High School. Nothing happend to her or ANY of her friends. Believe me, I would have found out!!! Also, 11 of us from my family, that’s right, 11, went to Catholic Grade School, and none of us were EVER bothered. So get your facts straight before you write any DISGUSTING COMMENTS. As far as public versus private, there is NO CONTEST, I know from whence I speak! CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ARE THE BEST!!!

Yes, you are correct. I’ve known many kids that graduated from Catholic schools and their education is far superior to that of high “school” graduates. I’ve talked to many kids that have accepted a diploma from a public “school” principal, and these kids can’t read, can’t write, can’t spell or use correct grammar, can’t tell time and cannot take directions. This is no exaggeration. And I’m talking they graduated from a National Blue Ribbon school.

Well, Consider yourself LUCKY!!! We took my son out of Catholic School in the 7th grade because he ran away from home and said if we ever sent him back there, he’d just run away again. That was on a Friday. We took him out of Catholic school FIRST THING the next Monday morning. When he entered our town’s public school he had to be tutored because the public school kids were ahead of the Catholic school in math and science. He is 27 now and grew up to be a happy well adjusted guy with a great job. I do believe the public schools were “safer” then they are now. My younger son (now 23) attended the same Catholic School until the 2nd grade. We took him out also. He graduated from PUBLIC high school 3rd in his class and a member of the National Honor Society. Neither of my sons want to have children. Why? Because they see what is happening to the kids in school today. INDOCTRINATION!!! They said they wouldn’t want their kids growing up in a world with a police state and where their kids would have to sing songs praising a President! They said if they get married, they’ll get a dog. I DON’T BLAME THEM!!! I told them that as much as I and their father love them, and we do, we’ve sacrificed much, more than willingly for them, I sometimes wish I hadn’t had children because I feel SO GUILTY for having brought them into a world of HELL!!!!! But I had no way of knowing what direction the world was headed. They both said they completely understand and if it was their kids they would feel the same. They said that they know they’re loved and that their father and I FEAR for the future for them.

It’s great that you had such a wonderful experience in catholic school Nance, but not everyone’s as lucky as you or your family. I went to catholic schools and at 4 years old I was sent for the cane for running round the classroom. I wasn’t warned not to run around the classroom or that if I didn’t stop I would receive the cane, just sent to the heads office. At 6 years old I was sent to a convent where we had an inhouse school. The nuns slapped us accross the face when we did anything wrong. One girl was force fed because she wasn’t eating quick enough which caused her to vomit what she’d just eaten and she was slapped accross the face because she was sick. Our teacher made one girl take her dress off while she beat her with a broom. Whilst my grades were high during my time in these schools, it was only so out of fear, so I do not share your sentiments that catholic schools are the best. While I am unaware of any sexual abuse that went on in either the school or the convent, I certainly witnessed and received some physical abuse from the nuns.
I went on at the age of 8 years old to public school and had no problems and no abuse.

As a psychologist. these type of isolation rooms are very common. Not sure what the deal is with him being in his underwear. But in reality what do you do with a totally disruptive child? I for one say the teachers arent trained enough in how to handle these kids. I have talked kids into completeing work and following directions but it is exhaustive.

No. But “they” do. A lot of children I see in my practice who have been incorrectly labeled “ODD” or “ADD” or “ADHD” — diagnoses that could be avoided with simply dietary changes. Many suffer from nutritional deficiencies…. revved up on Sunny Delight, and other corn syrup-laden drinks and snacks, not to mention GMO’s. Then there are those severely lacking in love and proper discipline. (That’s not to say that there aren’t genuine cases, but I suspect that these are the exception rather than the rule.)

When I was in grade school(a private school) I distinctly remember a kid in my class who was highly disruptive. The teacher had to restrain him because he was throwing desks and chairs at us. It was traumatizing for us kids to have to go through that every day. Kids who behave like that don’t belong in a class setting.

wake up! principals and teachers can do anything they want with impunity. most charges against students are brought by teachers and then sent to principals for a punishment phase. most charges are not allowed to be investigated by anyone above the principal, not even to superintendents or school boards. Remember, if a teacher brings accusations, your kid is guilty until proven innocent! Any investigation regarding the validity of the charges is internal and you will have no way of finding out if any action was taken against a teacher or adminstrator who lied about your kid!
MEANING: if a teacher and/or principal doesn’t like a kid, they can set him/her up for repeated offenses with NO OVERSIGHT. There is no defense attorney looking out for your kid in school, only pycho administrators and teachers. Try to bring a law suit against a teacher or administrator. They will have your tax dollars paying for their defense with lots of lawyers from a teachers union or school district.
It is time to demand that a Students Rights Counselor position be created in every school to make sure that someone is looking out for kids. The Couselor should report directly to the School Board, otherwise they will be compromised by corrupt adminstrators. It is worth a call to your congressperson to get his started.

A lot of schools throughout north america have these rooms. They are referred to time out rooms, seclusion rooms, isolation rooms etc. My son is autistic and has spent time in these rooms sometimes completly nude because he would rip his garments while he is out of control. Some have closed circuit servelence in them. They have a legitimate use, however like any tool, they can be abused. We are always notified by the teacher when it was used. It definity is better than total resraint. You do have to use due diligence with the teaching staff just to be sure that these rooms are to only be used as a last resort safety issue and not a convience for the teaching staff. If the school is top notch they will rarely need the use of these room anyway. If we keep poisoning our kids like the status quo we will need life support rooms in every school.

This happened to a classmate of mine when I was in Catholic school.
It was called “All Saints” in NYC. A boy named Raymond was next to us in the caffeteria didn’t want to eat his spagetti, and this one nun hit him, stripped him down to his underwear and locked him one of the cafeteria lockers (we had individual lockers in the cafeteria).
We were told to ignore him and we all went to class.
I asked to go to the bathroom, but instead i went to the cafeteria and Raymond was STILL THERE, CRYING!
A few days later my mom took us out the school when she saw one of the nuns hit my sister.

We had SOOOOO much trouble with the way my beautiful daughter was treated all through the public school system.
Abused, physically, mentally, and emotionally and degraded almost daily by the teachers, staff, and especially the other students. Employment circumstances and single parenthood kept me from home schooling her.
I volunteered there often so got a first hand glimpse as to how “the SYSTEM” has changed for the worse.
She is now 2 yrs at University studying Political Science to become someday, HOPEFULLY NOT the ONLY “UNCORRUPTED” Politician in EXISTENCE ?!!!!
She has a Heart of Gold and made it through basically UNSCATHED !

When I was in 1st grade in Amarillo Texas they used a wooden paddle with steel rivets to subject us to corporal punishment. I can’t recieve video. I do beleive special needs kids should not be enrolled in public education. It is a much larger cost to the school system and the authorities can not properly supervise and discipline them with todays noncoporal tools. I do beleive that homeschoolers should get half the money that is allocated per student in public schools to teach their own children or use that money to place them in private schools. The tax payer would save a bundle, mothers/fathers could afford to stay hoime and teach their children, or like in DC, they spend over 13000 a year per pupil. They could give every parent 6500 per student and that would save a ton of money and maybe a few more students would learn to read!

What is with this Oppositional Defiant Disorder non-sense? They used to call bad behavior in a child delinquent behavior that required simple discipline, now they are calling this a mental illness or a disease. I’m surprised they haven’t expanded the definition of O.D.D to mean defiant to government, just like they expanded the definition of terrorism in the Patriot Act to include all misdemeanors, or whatever else they want it to mean.

You are right, they will call us patriots who are antigovernment ODD or something like that. However, they first called this kid ADD, which means they probably got him hooked on speed (Ritalin or Adderal) and it is likely he is having some amphetamine psychosis. God knows what other meds they got him on, zonking out his brain. Also, I think when a boy this age doesn’t have a father (there is no apparent father in this story), the boy tries the best he can to be the stud of the family, since there is no stud in the family, and the boy has no loving father figure in his life and no father male role model that is any good. This boy would be totally different if you got him off all the dope and got him in a good private school, although there is still the problem of the stupid mom and no father.

Notice there is no father. This kid is in a broken home with no visible father. So he doesn’t have much chance from the get go. This kid didn’t like sitting and listening to the crap they brainwash you with in public school, so they called him ADD and hooked him on speed (Ritalin or Adderal). Then he gets amphetamine psychosis from the speed and attacks the teacher, so they call him ODD. They are gonna be calling all us patriots something like ODD when they commit us to gulags. But some of these kids they got hooked on speed are gonna get amphetamine psychosis and are gonna act up and be a handful. If you could magically take this boy and bring his real father back, and put his mother in the home, get him off all drugs, and either home school him or put him in a much better private school, you would see a total change. Of course the kid may have some mild brain damage from all the vaccines, from the fluoride, from poor nutrition, from his mom drinking or taking meds during pregnancy, etc. But I still suspect you could see a major improvement with the changes in environment.

This poor kid’s behavior is just a symptom of having no intact family, including both mother and father. The fact that state schools don’t really care about your kids, all they want to do is produce obedient workers and get kids in line with the expectations of the state… school doesn’t help.
The kid didn’t need a concrete room, he probably needed someone to listen to him, he probably needed a positive male role model, and probably needed a hug. Deny these things and you will produce an animal.
The fact that there are “behavior problems” at schools is not the reason to crack down on kids, it’s because schools are so awful that we have these behavior problems.

I see several things here. First there’s the boy,O.D.D. how does this happen? This is a result of vaccinating our kids with drugs at early ages.
2)they have just traumatized this child,you will never acheive a good relationship with a child by locking them in a room by themselves

As a mom of two disabled kids I see both sides of this. First of all, I too agree that parents tend to be too “easy” on kids these days. There is no doubt that this boy has a behavior problem. The question is how to “deal” with it. She said he’s in “special ed” because he can’t control his emotions. I guess my first question is, what does she/has she done at home since his birth? Most kids get to this point due to LACK OF CONSISTANCY in disipline. If a child misbehaves, you have to call them on it. Even if it means sitting on the sofa next to them until they settle/quiet down. I never spanked my kids, but I did give them a swat on the bum if they were in a dangerous situation and had disobeyed me. (going into the street, touching the stove…) My children are developmentally delayed and have autism and seizures. I did not use these as excuses. I still expected them to say please and thank-you; chew with their mouths closed, etc.. I found that many parents of disabled kids set their own expectations very low. They didn’t expect them to “pick up their toys…don’t “Break” the crayons, etc. Why not? I think as a parent, you should try to make your child fit into society as much as possible. For example, one boy “insisted” that he had to remove ALL of his clothing to use the bathroom. The parent allowed this. He’d kick and scream if she tried to make him simply lower his pants. Basically, the kid won. When they would go shopping at the mall, he’d go into the bathroom and remove all his clothes to go potty. YIKES! I felt that wasn’t safe for him and certainly made him “stand out” in the crowd. This kid also liked to color with felt tip pens. Only problem, he inisited that he had to remove ALL the caps each time he sat down to draw or color. Of course they would all dry out and she was buying him new pens weekly. Why? I sat down with the boy one day and put the caps on. Of course he started to stress over this. I simply said no. You may use one or two at a time, but the others HAVE to have the lids on. He cried and fussed. I still said no. I encouraged him. You can do this! Look, your colors work better! Soon as “Mom” saw this, she relieved me of my duty to supervise him and allowed him to pull all the caps off. Made no sense to me. Now, to the confinement room. My kids attended school in Oregon. We too have a “quiet” room. It is very similar to the one on this video. Some of these disabled kids can and do get quite physical. This is very dangerours to the other students in the class as well as the staff. One kid would bite. And I mean HARD! They would verbally tell this child NO BITING all the time. However, he’d get a wild hair and bite someone out of the blue. When they tried to put him in time-out and call his parent, he’d try to bite others and kick, scream, scratch, and so on. This kid was 80 pounds and they only get bigger! The staff HAD to have a safe environment for the safety of the other kids as well as the staff. If you were put in the “quiet room” you had to stay there. They did infact have a window and did keep watch. The door opened out and they held it shut. Some kids would continue to kick the door and scream. Oh well, not much else the staff could do. Yes, it was ALWAYS written up. Yes, the kid’s parents were always called. Interestingly enough, the kid that gets “bit” or hurt has no rights. Due to privacy laws, the school cannot tell the parent of the injured child “who” the bitter/hitter is. Very frustrating. Especially since these kids tend to strike out at the weakest kids in the class and do it repeatedly. My daughter came home with giant bruises on her from bites and was “slapped” on the back when she was in kindergarten buy a 5th grade “distressed” student. That one left quite a red handprint on her back. Do I approve of these “quit” rooms. Absolutely. Schools need to protect all of the kids.

What aspect of tyranny don’t you people understand? Why are you surprised at this? The public schools have been hijacked for use as Nazi style re-education centers. They are brainwashing the children. I know it is not fair. I know it isn’t right. But here it is. Do not put your children in public schools. Organize with people in your community and start your own small scale homeschooling groups. Lots of people out there cannot find work in their field. Start a homeschool. Talk to your neighbors. See if there is enough interest in your community. Specialize by age group. We do not need the government to take care of us. Spread the word about Aspartame, the vaccines and preparedness. The public schools are designed to teach kids to HATE learning. They should be designed to teach kids HOW to learn, not try to stuff their heads with useless “facts” (false reality based facts)

I went to public school and was sent into the hallway almost everyday. I had to stand facing the lockers. And everyday Mr. Belcher (no kidding) would come by and take me to the office upon discovering me in the hall and I would receive 3 pops. Until he found out who my older sister was, who the whole school loved. Then all of the teachers and principles were nice to me. I stopped getting in trouble. Never was sent to a quiet room though. I was sent to a 3 day in school suspension on a Saturday. God I hated it. Ahhh. Live and learn. This is what happens when you are hyper. Pretty sure it would have served me well 1000 years ago but not nowadays.

I can sympathize with the parents on this situation. When I was in Kentergarden…..of all times, One day when the ‘teacher’ aka, Prison Mistress, gathered the class for a sing song time, I did not feel like doing, sing song time. So, I was not participating. She abruptly stopped, walked over, grabbed me and smacked me around, ending with me being locked in the classroom lavatory for more than an hour. This happened around 1960. This nonesense has been going on forever in our society. Thank God, parents are now able to take action on this now. This in no way damaged me, but, if I had a child in school and this happened, I’d own the teacher, school and town.

i know i’m probably at odds with the rest of the board here, but as having a mother who was a special ed aide, rooms like this are common place and sometimes necessary, as you can see when they talk about the child becoming violent. but when ever she had to use the room, it was not isolationist punishment but a place to be one on one with the child so he cannot disrupt the class. it is from that perspective that i disagree with this action. locking him in a room by himself with no one even looking inside was dangerous for the child. if he really has all the problems (which could probably be changed through dietary changes), then it is irresponsible on the part of the school to leave him alone especially while having a tantrum. But you cannot throw out the baby with the bath water here. If we are going to continuously put our children on psychotropics, then these rooms are necessary, but until people understand the marketing behind add/adhd medications and take an active role in their child’s life we leave the system open to abuses like this.

Haha ODD? Kid does not like to be told to stand in his underwear and that is a disorder? I don’t like being told what to do either I guess I have ODD too! Sweet!
