British mother Sterilized in ten-minute operation on the NHS

A mother has become one of the first people in the country to be sterilised in a ten-minute NHS operation dubbed the female vasectomy.

[efoods]Businesswoman Maxine White, 41, who has four children and decided her family was complete, opted for the procedure as she did not want to take time off work.

The Essure procedure meant she was able to have the operation in hospital and go home within hours.

Miss White, of Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, said: ‘I think it is a great step forward for women who have had their families. It is just as easy as a vasectomy is for men.’

Gyenacologist Nagui Aziz, from the Royal Oldham Hospital, used a catheter to pass tiny inserts into her body and block her fallopian tubes.
