With the release of the jobs report on Friday, the broadest measure of unemployment and underemployment tracked by the Labor Department has reached its highest level in decades. If statistics went back so far, the measure would almost certainly be at its highest level since the Great Depression.
In all, more than one out of every six workers — 17.5 percent — were unemployed or underemployed in October. The previous recorded high was 17.1 percent, in December 1982.
This includes the officially unemployed, who have looked for work in the last four weeks. It also includes discouraged workers, who have looked in the past year, as well as millions of part-time workers who want to be working full time.

It’s already at 25+%, wake up! The numbers “they” tell you are based on those ONLY currently receiving unemployment CHECKS!
When a persons unemployment runs out, they are NO LONGER TRACKED OR COUNTED!!!!
How many time does this have to be said before people wake-up to the REAL NUMBERS. What is frightening is that people here at inforwars are JUST as asleep as most.
A very good estimate to the TRUE unemployment numbers has always been 15-18% MORE then what is ever officially stated, FACT. But the 15 to 18% higher true figures were based off a half-way decent economy, so right now, with the economy in complete ruins, the numbers will be AT LEAST 25+% UNEMPLOYMENT RATES, OR AT LEAST ANOTHER 5-12% on top of the old real world numbers of 15-18%, WHICH WOULD MEAN IT WOULD BE 20 – 30% ABOVE WHAT THE TRACKED UNEMPLOYMENT CHECKS (which is officially stated at only 10.2%, bullshit) THAT THEY ARE GIVING OUT, SINCE MANY MORE WILL NEVER FIND A JOB AFTER THEIR CHECKS RUN OUT!
So one would take the official TRACKED numbers of unemployment checks which they today stated at 10.2% and then you would add the real world PEOPLE who’s checks run out but can not find work but are no longer COUNTED and who do not MAGICALLY get a job just because they are not getting a check anymore and will find it MUCH harder to get employment due to the stagnant economy… this would give us a real world unemployment at 30-40% as an average!

When I tell my friends that the real UE figures are really 40% around the country, they say I’m nuts, but when I ask them to back their accusations and I show them proof that the UE numbers are only CHECK figures and not PEOPLE, they shit themselves. I don’t stop there, I than go to show them the newest welfare, new massive rise in people taking food at FOOD BANKS and how many people decimated the hospitals due to not having cobra (UE extended insurance) they agree that there is a HUGE cover-up and the real UE #’s must be closing 50% right now. THANK YOU TO ALL THE SELL-OUTS IN OUR GOV who forgot their oath to America. Americans, we must start protecting our country and stop outsourcing, as well as ALL foreign aid. They should also be figuring in those who, while still working full time, have had their wages slashed to keep their jobs.
I am currently working “full time”, but at half my “normal” rate. So what is the difference between that and working half time, being “under-employed”? Yet, it does not go into the figures.
So you can take that 17.5 and up it closer to 25%, or more, in the real world, which is what it was during the last “Great Depression”.

Just wait until you get to be my age (60) and they lay you off. When you go out looking for another job they tell you that “you are overqualified for the position”. This is code for; “you might want the money that the job is actually worth and we can get at least three recent college graduates for the price of one of you asshole!”
My only consolation is the thought that I really don’t see how the system can go on for much longer. I have the feeling that the whole thing will come crashing down before I run out of unemployment benefits. My family and I are well prepared, no debt and never lived beyond our means. Daughter is an experienced trauma ER RN. We’ll at least be able to watch as society comes falling down.
What say we all meet over at American P.R.I.N.C.E.S.S.’s house when the shit finally hits the fan?After we steal her salt and pepper for seasoning, we can BBQ the bitch on her front lawn and all have a nice snack before we go on about the business at hand.

Well I’ve been out of work since December, got let go because I don’t speak spanish, and I am not illegal. The illegals have no problems getting jobs, they work for less and don’t saying anything about poor working conditions. The few 1% that control this country of ours are the problem, along with illegals, the banks, and to those who defend the illegals. The next time those illegals gather together at some rally demanding rights, that is when we the people go in and by force take them all and take them back to Mexico. I have seen my old hometown desimated by the illegals and rich who hire them for cheap labor. Then they say we are the ones who don’t want to work for slave labor. Just recantly I was offered a job, showed up, then as I looked around, I saw all these mexicans. I knew before the woman said anything, that I was not going to get to work, I was right and pissed off at the same time. When the woman asked why I was there, did you not get the phone call? I told her no, this is the time you told me to be here, but I see that because I am not an illegal mexican, you are refusing me the job. Even though yesterday you said I had it, I called I.C.E. but they did nothing.

there was an article on aol news about over 10 per cent unemployed and with out of the votes on aol 32 per cent were unemployed and 6.6 per cent part time and 16 per cent retired .im thinking like a illegal mexican these days they stand around waiting for contractors to pick them up.i have been going to contruction job sites i found 4 days work this week at 10 an hour ,still a major rip off for back breaking work ,i had to knock down old brick walls for 10 an hour,i got exploited for that wage i would like 20 to 30 an hour for that job , im worn out a bit but at least i can eat now.and with illegal alien types of jobs they pay you at the end of each day

Wow that’s so high 1 out of 6 I think its worse some of us are students looking for work and forced to take out loans to even go to school some of us don’t even want to work just to pay off their loans for 5 to 10 years. I did a trade school to find a better job while in school but now iv got no job to pay for school I can’t afford to pay my loan. I can’t afford to even go to school. I don’t even want to deal with another loan.

So the the Old Grey Lady says unemployment is at 17.5%? Maybe she needs to take a walk down my street. Out of 30 houses, 6 people are working. So that’s 20% just on my street and I live in middle-class America suburbia. I’d hate to think what the rate is in the “urban” areas if typical white neighborhood is watching Oprah every day vs. working.

People seem to live there whole life to being employed then to find out a life very unrewarding working. If the unemployment actually reached 50% the people screaming the most would be the working class who are likely to least benefit from the unemployed. What’s going to happen when the dollar is finally dead an the people really no longer feel there employer has the means to use the carrot and stick psychology to control people an now have to bargain to keep employees? It will be the great defeat to all employers who have not thought of the realistic consequences of unemployment or employment with a worthless fiat currency tanked to a nothingness value. The shedding of jobs may lead to people pursue creative thinking an to foster the mind instead a few creating such a atmosphere with little self motivation for individual thinking.

I live in a suburb of Minneapolis MN. (I know you guys are paranoid to the point that you couldn’t say where you’re from but here’s a clue…..they already know). Anyway, the movie theaters are full, 2 new restaurants opened up within 6 miles of me, the mall is busy and when I have a day off of work I’m about the only one on the street who is at home. Nice and quiet all day.

Food and entertainment usually do well in economic downturns, that’s not really a surprise. Those industries don’t drive economic growth like technology does (or did) though. The tech sector has been in a slump for almost 10 years now. Everyone is focusing on the DOW as some kind of leading indicator but I still remember when the NASDAQ broke 5000. It’s not even half of that today.
