Bush Was Right: The Constitution is Just a G.D. Piece of Paper

Article VI, clause 3 of the United States Constitution states the following:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution.

Newly elected members of the House and Senate must recite the following oath:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

It is difficult, however, to support and defend something you do not understand. Consider the following video. It was posted on YouTube today and shows the response of a Republican congressman allegedly representing the 2nd district of New Jersey after he is asked about the Constitution:

But it is not simply Congress that knows nothing about the Constitution. Even Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Obama, is sketchy on the Constitution (he mistakes it for the Declaration of Independence), a remarkable feat for a supposed expert on constitutional law.

I believe Newt Gingrich is a neocon and a charlatan who does not respect the Constitution either, but something he told Sean Hannity during the Obamacare tragedy sticks with me: “It would be fascinating to know, since he taught Constitutional law in Chicago, which Constitution was he teaching? Venezuelan constitutional law?”

Of course, Newt supported Bush’s violations of the Constitution, so he is a hypocrite, but his comment about Obama is relevant, even if Gingrich is employing it as a cynical device in a game of Republican vs. Democrat partisan politics.

For Republicans and Democrats, the Constitution is something you kick around like a football. After the game is over, you shove it in a locker and forget about it.

House Minority Leader John Boehner is also a constitutional moron. During a Tea Party event (no doubt a Republican Tea Party event) he recited the words :”We hold these truths to be self evident” and said the words are from the Constitution’s preamble. Of course, they are from the Declaration of Independence.

Tea Party activists and the clueless Michelle Bachmann stood around like lobotomy patients.

Congress is a den of vipers in service to offshore bankers and transnational corporations. Obama is not a Marxist as the Republican Tea Party claims. He is a corporatist, as Ron Paul has noted. Congress and the White House are facades propped up to fool the American people and keep alive the cruel joke that we live in a “democracy” when in fact the country is supposed to be a constitutional republic.

Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution states: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government.”

In a Republic, the sovereignty resides with the people. In a Republic, the people have no obligation to the government. Instead, the government is a servant of the people and obliged to its owner, We the People.

The way Obamacare was rammed through Congress — even though a majority of the people opposed it — is a glaring example of the fact the United States is no longer (and has not been for some time) a constitutional republic. In fact, it is not even a democracy because not even the mob rules — the plutocrats do.

Under Obamacare, the people have an obligation to the government and large insurance corporations, the exact opposite of what the founders intended. Thomas Jefferson is rolling over in his grave.

In the past, they threw us a few crumbs. Now they stick a gun in our faces and demand we shell out or hard earned money – that is, the money that is left after the government steals half of it — to fascistic corporations.

Under the current arrangement, we no longer need a Constitution and that is why our “representatives” are brain-dead about it. The Constitution is irrelevant. I pray to God we get it back. But I am not optimistic.

George Bush of the Bush crime family that supported the Nazis was unfortunately correct. In the United States, circa 2010, the Constitution is nothing but a goddamn piece of paper.
