Despite a fierce lobbying effort by the U.S. chemical industry, the state Senate narrowly approved a proposal Tuesday that would ban the use of a substance in baby bottles, toddler sippy cups and food containers that independent scientists say is a threat to childhood development.
The bill by state Sen. Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) that would prohibit the use of bisphenol A — commonly dubbed BPA — now goes to the Assembly, where it is expected to face a wall of resistance from manufacturers of the products that contain the chemical.Industry leaders have focused on California for a lobbying and public relations campaign they hope will turn back efforts by health and consumer groups to outlaw use of the chemical, a component in many types of plastic and plastic-lined containers.
Researchers from the chemical industry say the public health threat has been vastly overblown, and manufacturers of BPA argue that it has passed muster with nearly a dozen regulatory agencies in Europe and the United States.

A PR campaign to convince people that poison is good for them? How exactly does that go? It always astounds me when people try to make cases in support of outright evil or other sickening behaviors and practices. And it astounds me more that people actually fall for their arguments. I have friends who have fallen fully for the fluoride is good for you bullshit. Certainly, the Jedi mind tricks of these evil entities are quite powerful, almost impressive if it weren’t so freaking annoying.

I’m sad to say, although I try to be positive, that this will go nowhere and get no coverage nationally

Look for BPA in your “enamel”-lined cans. Even Whole Foods sells these. Think you’re doing well for your family buying organic products like Muir Glen organic tomatoe sauce. Look inside these cans and you will see the tell-tale white lining. What was wrong with the “old-school” cans that didn’t have plastic liners? What happens when an acidic medium like tomatoes comes in contact with these liners? Not to worry, if you contact store or manufactures they will tell you that the bpa is at acceptable levels. One can will not hurt you but what happens if you use 100s of these cans for your family over the history of your families food consumption?
What happens is that you are feeding your family plastics that mimic estrogen. These estrogen-mimicers have been called xenoestrogens. These xenoestrogens will be stored in the fat cells of your family members and once there they don’t easily come out. So there is an accumulated effect. These xenoestrogens are strongly suspect in the rise of cancer and reproductive problems.

It’s turning all of the boys into sissies. This crap is synthetic estrogen.
It seems they’d rather be playing video games than going out camping and hunting, and fighting over girls. Or just fighting just to earn respect from one another. Ah, I do miss my youth.
Maybe it’s all part of the plan? Turning American men into a bunch of pussies who want the government to take care of them? Help me lord Obonga!
There is a book out called, Boys Adrift. It’s good reading. Read it.

Tempered glass could probably be used as a hammer for light jobs, and passed on as an heirloom.
Useful rubber could be made fairly organically.
Laborers could produce and sell these implements at wages, both sustainable and family friendly enough to establish their children.
But, where’s the divisive, moral outrage in that?

BPA plastics are still found in water bottles, plastic dinnerware, and lining cans of acidic foods, BTW.

It’s happened to me, before. I suspect that timing or pejoratives might have something to do with flagging.
June 3rd, 2009 at 4:47 pm
All this means is that the pharmas cant legally put it in the bottles. So they will put it in anyway coz they have the peado, child molesting judges in their back pockets. Nice idea though

Can’t you just imagine those thug freaks at the chemical
companies, FDA and eugenics organizations grinding
their teeth and swearing:
“Damn! Now we got to find ANOTHER way to
POISON CHILDREN!”
Yes they’ll probably just rename BPA “goodysweet” or
somesuch BS and mix it in anyway.

EXACTLY! I knew someone that worked in the “labeling” department for a cosmetics company. Their job was to make sure that their labeling was in compliance for all of the different countries that their products were distributed to. In practice, if there was an ingredient in one of their products that was banned in a certain country, they would find a different name for the ingredient so that it would be in compliance for the country in which it was banned.

Reminds me a bit of the Apprentice parody My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss where those ambitious fellas had to do outrageous tasks for the immoral billionaire Todd and one of those was making a fun commercial for a class full of kids pitching Hydrogen cyanide. The show was outrageous and fun, but similar dubious things seem to happen in real life, too…
