Justice Minister Rob Nicholson raised the prospect recently at a meeting of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, according to MADD chief executive Andrew Murie.
If random testing were to be adopted, it would be a major change to Canada’s 40-year-old breathalyzer legislation, which stipulates that police may only administer a test if they suspect a driver has been drinking.
In June, a House of Commons parliamentary committee recommended changing the legislation to allow for random testing, arguing it is an effective deterrent.

OMG!!! And who thinks this is a good idea? Next will be random (fill in the blank) test. Think about it. Our laws tend to be cumulative and additive. You got to ask yourself when approving of legislation “How can this be abused? What effect will this have 200 years down the road”? If the answers are not promising—-> circular file

Lets go out on limb here and give an idea of why they would start this . There is always an alternative as to why they do the things they do . Its not for a breath sample . You get pulled over asked for ID they request a breath sample . Now if you think about this they have 2 pieces of evidence ID and a DNA sample. We have read on this site where they can replicate DNA and get convictions with it . They bag and tag the nozzle from the machine and should you get to close to exposing or become to big a problem then guess what they fabricate evidence and lock you up for a crime you never committed . At the very least you supplied a DNA sample that can now be put in a data bank and used in the future without your knowledge .
How do we prevent this request the nozzle from the machine after they are done with you

Nicotine is a drug. Next the cops will test to see if you have been smoking and driving. What about cold meds? Sorry, you can’t drive now. Many prescription drugs are serious, maybe cops should test for that also. The reasons to do random tests is endless.
What about if you are parked a little close to the line, how about a test to rule something out?
How about a little freedom?

This has nothing to do with drinking and driving .It has everything to do with putting the masses under control of the state. It is amazing to me how easily the sheep in America just buckle under, cave in and swallow this swill .What ever happened to “probable cause’ ?oH i forgot we do not have rights any more.At this point,I personally do not ever expect these peivileges disguised as rights to return to this country. The people are weak and have been beaten into submission. My grandfather is most likely rolling in his grave after fighting for what he believed was liberty and justice for all. My father ,however, agrees with all this bullshit going down .So it appears to me that each generation gets a little more indoctrinated into this Matrix.I ,however also know that the constitution was never meant for us slaves and so did Wahington, Jefferson and their ilk. This is a very sad time for humanity and the U.S. is not even faking it in terms of our so called rights that we never had any damn way.

America already does random breathalyzers. The local cops are trained to state, “I smell the distinct odor of alcohol on your breath,” whenever they feel like “fishing” for a candidate for DUI. I know this for a fact. I’ve caught numerous local cops saying this exact phrase to me on different occasions. I hadn’t been drinking on any of the occasions. I don’t drink. Ever.
The last time this happened to me I asked the cop if he had been trained to say that. “I smell the distinct odor of alcohol on your breath.” He said no, so I told him that other cops say that exact same phrase. He admitted it was part of the protocol leading to DUI arrests. But I hadn’t been drinking or doing anything suspicious. I told him he was a liar, that he did not smell alcohol, that he was saying that merely out of training. He said, and I’m not kidding, “Sometimes toothpaste of mouthwash can smell like alcohol.” I laughed in his face, told him I hadn’t brushed my teeth and never used mouthwash. I called him a liar once more and denied the sobriety test. He threatened me with arrest. For what? DUI? No, for not breathing in the breathalyzer.
There you have it. Random breathalyzers in America. I was not ticketed, I had done nothing wrong, but I did have to breath in his little device. I blew .000 and he stomped off without an arrest. Cops are not heroes. They, like this one, are scum. If you are a cop and you have a soul, get out now while you still can. Hell is coming.

Gary, you have it right! First off, it’s not required that you breathe. Sure, they may suspend your license if you don’t, but I’d rather have a suspended license than a dewey on my driving record. To all of those reading this, NEVER SUBMIT TO A BREATHALYZER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s called self-incrimination. Secondly, if you are going to drink a bit and must drive, please carry a bottle of alcohol based mouthwash visible in your car. You can use this as evidence in a court! What you force the officer to do is to make the decision if he wants to pursue a DUI case. There is blood work involved and chain of custody of that sample. Chances are you will get off if you are cool to the officer and play your cards right. But if you’re lit up on the hooch, then you deserve everything you get!

A worse law came into effect last year.
If a road cop thinks your on drugs he can cruiser you downtown for the trained stone detector cop to put an eye ball on you and make the call.
CDN People here were screaming at that one. Bleary eyes from a 12 hour shift. Just plain being tired. Being sick. Crying over a breakup. Looking stupid. How do they know the difference? Since this introduction I don’t know of any busts being reported over this one.
In Kitchener downtown it took 3 cruisers and a bike cop to get a normal car towed because of it not having enough tire tread according to what?. They want all pre 96 cars off the road. Before that you can still fool the on board computor so as to get much better mileage. They want to chain you to a car payment or make you walk. More control.
I have a 94 Sunbird and I have doubled my mileage.

mongoestella Reply:
October 6th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Acetone 2oz per 10 gallons gas or diesel. Works out to 2.5-3 mil per liter with an eye dropper. Must be industrial strenght from a chem supplier. I get my gas in a can and mix it at the trunk. Some do the same with Zylene. Not with diesel though. It dosen’t work for me.
More is not better. You’ll get worse mileage adding more than this. Don’t use if ethanol is in the gas. Any Alcohol any time will cancel the effects and give you worse mileage. Burns hotter which is better. Less hydrocarbons will be in the exquast. 02 sensors then tell computer to send in more gas.
Expect to buy a gallon minimum. Stuff at Home Depot paint department is not industrial strenght. Just for cleaning, thinning fiberglass resin etc. Wont work.
Moth Balls that are pure naphthalene only. Fold in a rag and smash fine with a hammer. Only add 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and a half.
S. Pole magets only facing each other work. It’s hard to get the frequency through stainless steel lines.
Tons of stuff available for on board production of hydrogen and injection. 35% to 50% increase is common. Best results on pre 1996 4 cylinders. Do a lot of reading first there is alot to learn on the counter measures or it won’t work. You have to fool the map sensor.
My real secret is something I invented and can’t sell publicly. Worked on it for 5 years.
Little copper tube in the intake and one along the fuel line. Alone this doubles my mileage straight up.
Need more help let me know.

It’s been here in Finland for a while too, they hold these kind of checkpoints every now and then. Not really that big of a deal, but still annoying and infringing.
October 5th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
i wish they would fine drunk drivers a fair amount. they should take your annual income x 5% and that’s what your fine is. that’s the only fair way to do it. because the way it is now, poor people get pushed down even farther with steep fines. for example:
Current way: DUI is a flat rate for everybody. i want to say it costs like $5,000???
so, if you make $20,000 per year you are paying 25% of that if the fine is $5,000. that’s a lot.
My Way: DUI is 5% of your annual income. if you make $15,000 per year your fine would be $750. if you make $250,000 per year, your fine would be $12,500. my way is more fair. the way it is right now the rich don’t even feel a DUI. what’s a couple grand to them?

October 5th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
I think that measure is OK. Alcoholic drivers are the greatest cause of car driving accidents. In fact, where I live, the people that drove inebriated was so high that the government started campaigns (that last even today) that tells people not to drink alcohol if they’re going to drive AND if a cop finds you driving while being drunk, they’ll arrest you immediately, no questions asked.
In fact, I support that measure. Last year about 150 people in my town died by the irresponsible action of a drunk driver. That’s just too fucking much!!!!!!!!

I wonder if the moderators will allow my post THIS time.
The problem I see here is that most of you are getting really upset about this, yet they already have random spot checks to ask if you’ve been drinking. I don’t see any of you marching in the streets over that.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for stopping this erosion of our civil liberties, however I’ve noticed lately in my own personal experience that it’s the scoundrels of society who usually scream loudest. They want all the inherent rights but don’t want any of the responsibilities. They’re the ones who will drink and drive and say it’s okay for THEM to do it because they can “handle it”. It’s always some other nameless person who’s in the wrong.
That said, I believe they should stop all the random spot checks and impose severe (not slap-on-the-wrist) penalties for drinking and driving. That should solve the issue properly.

Nothing wrong with RBT — they test you and if your clear you go on your way — had them for more than 25 years now in Australia
The issue is when you get to the units that test by a person speaking into them rather than blowing into a tube.
In winter i was driving a car full of drunk friends home – windows up and they were all talking – so after 10 minutes of driving I get pulled over by a RBT – I talk into the machine after winding down the window and it shows me as being of the scale — now i dont drink at all ever keep that in mind. What had happened is as soon as I opened the window the heated air in the car wanted to escape outside and with it took all the alcohol vapour that was mixed in from the 4 drunks in the car — the stupid police bitch ( woman ) thought I was drunk and would not let me exit the car to take the test in an environment free of alcohol vapours. Even with 4 friends explaining it was their talking that had led to a high level of alcohol vapour in the car.
Good thing a “old timer” male sargeant came along and had the common sense to realise what was going on and he let us go on our way without me having to take a further test.
October 8th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
ummm does anyone think it could just be to deter drinking and driving? i think rbt’s are a great idea. It would act as a deterent for those idiots who drink and then end up killing someone when the loose control of their car….
Nothing sinister in trying to prevent people from getting killed by drunk idiots.

THis is none sense another demonstration of abusive powers. And do not tell me it is to make our roads safer. It has nothing to do with that.
One can see when a driver is driving drunk or not. My opinion is another form to abuse taxation via fines. Police state this is what it is.
