In my last column, I joked that with public spending out of control and the piling on of the international bailout bill, economic collapse seems to be the goal of Congress. It is getting harder to joke about such a thing however, as the non-partisan General Accounting Office (GAO) has estimated that the administration’s health care plan would actually cost over a trillion dollars. This reality check may have given us a temporary reprieve on this particular disastrous policy, however an equally disastrous energy policy reared its ugly head on Capitol Hill last week.
The Cap and Trade Bill HR 2454 was voted on last Friday. Proponents claim this bill will help the environment, but what it really does is put another nail in the economy’s coffin. The idea is to establish a national level of carbon dioxide emissions, and sell pollution permits to industry as the Catholic Church used to sell indulgences to sinners. HR 2454 also gives federal bureaucrats new power to regulate a wide variety of household appliances, such as light bulbs and refrigerators, and further distorts the market by providing more of your tax money to auto companies.
The administration has pointed to Spain as a shining example of this type of progressive energy policy. Spain has been massively diverting capital from the private sector into politically favored environmental projects for the better part of a decade, and many in Washington apparently like what they see. However, under no circumstances should anyone serious about economic recovery emulate an economy that is now approaching 20 percent unemployment, where every green job created, eliminated 2.2 real jobs and cost around $800,000 each! The real inconvenient truth is that the cost of government regulations, taxes, fees, red tape and bureaucracy is a considerable expense that has to be considered when companies decide where to do business and how many people they can afford to hire. Increasing governmental burden directly causes capital flight and job losses, as Spain has learned. In this global economy its easy enough for businesses to relocate to countries that are more politically friendly to economic growth. If our government continues to kick the economy while its down, it will be a long time before it gets back up. In fact, jobs are much more likely to go overseas, compounding our problems.
And for what? Contrary to claims repeated over and over, there is no consensus in the scientific community that global warming is getting worse or that it is manmade. In fact over 30,000 scientists signed a petition recently directly disputing the claims on which this policy is based. Legitimate environmental claims should instead be directed towards the public sector. The government, especially the military, is the most serious polluter in the country, and is exempt from most EPA regulations. Meanwhile Washington bureaucrats have classified the very air we exhale as a pollutant and have gone unchallenged in this incredible assertion. The logical consequence is that there will come a time when we will have to buy a government permit just to emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere from our own lungs!
The events on Capitol Hill last week just demonstrate Washington’s audacity in manufacturing problems just so they can expand government power to solve them.

What… do you think he has a friggen crystal ball or something? Pretty much everything he’s stated has come to fruition. But he’s not “coming up with this on his own”. He reads Mises and Hayek and all the Austrian guys, plus Rothbard, etc. They all have predicted these problems and nobody listens.

Capital flight began the day Barry Soetoro won the election and when he was alledgedly(sic) sworn into office. Look at the stock market’s performance those days. Markets don’t like govt manipulators and markets are never wrong.

When all this SHIT starts were are we all going to be working ??? Maybe AL (fuck you ) GORE will give you a low paying job trying to sell carbon credits for his billion dollar co. These people in congress shouldn,t be aloud to vote on a bill unless they sign a statement that they have read all of said bill and understand what they are voting for ?????????????????????????NO MORE PEEK AND VOTE !!!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
All you Ron Paul haters suck. Go away please! You criticize him because he won’t predict the future, change the votes of 434 other congressmen, or give you a raise. If there is ANYBODY you like in the government speak now and make clear who they are. If you don’t like anybody in our government then why do you come on a website and criticize the government’s policies? It just seems redundant to me.

Hate’s a strong word. I’m aloud to have my own opinions about what is necessary, with or without any other schemes that might be going on. It is not against freedom to think freely; I respect Ron Paul in certain respects, but there is no way I follow his complete ideology, or even most of it.

Ron Paul seems honestly genuine to me, on many counts.
You have to have an honest man in congress, or American’s will give up all hope, and start a rebellion that should have started in the 80’s.
So, I think you are partially correct, I think Ron Paul is ALLOWED to run, so that the people here, feel they have SOMEONE who is listening.
1 person among hundreds, isn’t going to cut it though.
All peaceful avenues have been exhausted, now onward to a violent revolution, this now, is our only viable solution.

I’m still hoping otherwise.
Perhaps succession on the state by state level would be better. A new Confederacy consisting of all 50 states would be great. Just abandon the federals, and form a new union.
But I am afraid you’re right Madman. It looks more and more like violent revolution is coming to a country near us soon. The Army is practicing for it right now in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lets pray that the soldiers will find the courage to reclaim their souls and know when the time is right to turn their guns on their commanders.

Jeremy John and Madman are all right, in different ways. I am part of the 30 yo and under new military generation. All of my friends who have served have the same outlooks on this issue I have. In my father and grandfather’s days, you only swore to uphold the constitution and defend it from all enemies foriegn and domestic. Now the new generation are also being asked to sign documentation that states they have no problem shooting American citizens. The rest of the folks my age are too busy hitin the bong and chasin tail to pay attention. Perhaps that is why vets are being labled possible right wing extremists by our govt. I now face(and have discussed with my military friends) the sick realization that one day I may have to stand against people I would have died for. In the military it is all about the person to your left and right. I am not surprised that civilians my age who have never had that level of responsibility do not see or want to see what is going on. If most 30 and unders truly grasped the whole of what is going on, I am sure their views on life and their priorities would be different. Also, you are truly overlooking one thing. Everyone on here is saying Iraq and Afghanistan are training for a NWO scenario. Not. We have N Korea and a possible explosion of total war in the Mid East looming. This will effectively keep the majority of fighting aged folks busy, out of country and outta the way. No offense intended, but leaving nothing but elders, housewives, and people who lack the fortitude to stand up is a perfect plan. Send all indian worriors to a battle and then rape and pillage the village. Oldest trick in the book!

Al Gore should have his Nobel prize revoked cause he is a liar, fraud and a criminal.
He and his international buddies are just setting up a unfounded racketeering operation to misdirect the environmental movement and make lots of dishonest gains for he and his cronies.
CO2 does not cause global warming. It is just another Enron like Quango To further jack energy prices up and pay for another corrupt unprofitable racketeering organisation called the NWO.
Al Gore Is one of leaders in the civil class war on the People. He wants to damage your ability to get food, water and shelter.

What is the militia? The term “militia” consists of two parts: the organized militia and the unorganized militia. According to the organic Maine Constitution and backed by the United States Code, the organized militia is the standing military force in the state (the “State Guard”) while the unorganized militia (which is commonly called the militia) consists of all other males between the ages of 17 and 45 (or 65 if they have prior military service). The militia was established for the purpose of defending the state (a sovereign nation) and the United States of America (a union of nations) from all enemies “foreign and domestic” based upon principles of community self defense established hundreds of years before the nation was formed. However, while the organized militia was tasked with the defenses of the states, our forefathers, having just fought their own government, did not place their entire trust in the government or a standing army to protect them but reserved the right and the means to protect themselves – thus the unorganized militia. The militia was and is a defensive body set up so that its members can take care of normal peace by internal lawless elements, or government usurpation of the rights and power of the people guaranteed by the Constitution, there is a group of people that owe their allegiance to no one except God and their fellow Americans who desire to remain free.
The mission and purpose of the militia have not changed. What has changed is the status of the organized militia. The “State Guard” with the duty and obligation of protecting the state is now under federal jurisdiction (the “National Guard”) thereby obligating it only to the federal government making the unorganized militia the only constitutional force available for the defense of the state.

Bullshit. how else are we going to limit carbon emissions. What? we don’t need to. Have you ever seen the air in Los Angeles? What the fuck is your solution?
I support the environmental agenda and I don’t support treating businesses as independent citizens, and I believe in protecting the true people. I do not see any tyranny associated with cap and trade, and saying it is tyranny is corporate propaganda. Alex Jones is an anti-left propaganda master.
I agree with Alex’s statement that the system is anti-spiritual (I’m listening to the broadcast) and wants you to be selfish. But if your spirituality isn’t “Christian” then you are an evil occultist. The very fact that we feel a larger presence, a Divine mind, is actually what occultism is–it is exploring that higher presence through many diverse methods, depending on the tradition. By Chistian fundamentalist interpetation, it seems to me that the feeling within you that you explore is actually satan–meditation is an occult practice by this interpretation. Technically, prayer itself is an occult practice. Do you people realize that the occult isn’t bad and is just talking about the ‘higher presence’ that can be experienced and explored through altering consciousness. It isn’t anything that involves pagan idol worship; in fact, it is the opposite. It is spirit worship.
BigTim Reply:
July 5th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Occult doesn’t mean anything but “things hidden” and is usually associated with evil since evil does not like to be exposed. For example the statement “WE LIVE UNDER AN OCCULTIC GOV”T”
would be correct since our government continually does things it wishes to keep secret. I’m a Cristian and believe Christ is the light, the truth, the way. Anything contrary to Christ would be opposite of light therefore dark, a lie, and a hopeless wandering . You are more than welcome to follow your theory’s I’ll stick to mine though. I don’t participate in “SATAN-MEDITATION” though I’m quite sure the upper echelon of our Gov’t is all to versed and quite experienced in that technique.
The cap and trade is just another fiasco, there are patents out there for internal combustion engines that are 2000 percent more economical than what we have now but the oil industry don’t want that out there neither does our government. (one could say that its “occultic” technology lol). We could all be driving suv’s that get 300 miles to the gallon not the tankful , but our government and the oil industry will in no way relinquish its power over us.
Cap and trade is just a con game, just follow the money……..
July 5th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
The cap and trade bill ,if passed, will be known as the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
The bill that caused mass public disobedience, non-payment of ALL taxes including the phony federal reserve tax and the french revolution type revolt that ensued. CIVIL WAR will be its only outcome if passed. I hope it gets passed . The American people that get sucker punched by this one will lead to a hornets nest being shook. People will come together and finally do something.

According to Ralph Avallone, President of the- http://greenenergycouncil.com Obama will soon (Nov. 1st?) be announcing the purported ‘purpose’ of the [all but finalized HR 2454] legislation which will be to make us believe it is primarily intended to impact the decisions of major industrial polluters. The key to public acceptance is illustrating first, how many new jobs will be created. This is being handled on a state-by-state basis [as each state has a different price, not a different pollution factor,] whereas they will be creating “thousands of new service jobs for compliance personnel.” These include everything from ‘Green Engineers, earning $200K+ in corporate positions, down to some individuals who will be able to earn an average of $30-$50Hr. as freelance service agents.
Those who instigate energy-savings plans and activities will save on energy costs while earning a direct ‘tax-credit’. Those who do not will be penalized with potential ‘tax liens.’ ..The go is this; all shall be presented to the people [read: Obma's sheepish bleeding-heart neo-liberal followers] as a short-term challenge to reduce America’s excessive over consumption. Ralph implies in his class that Obama has been encouraged to establish a deadline, whereby YOU may be informed that any ‘non-compliance’ on your company’s or household’s part will equate to a new tax on excessive consumption.
This all sounds rosey and wonderful from the standpoint of the Green Jobs Corps. My instinct is to suggest that EVERYONE demand that Ron Paul’s views become Mainstream before it is too late to complain! This is actually an international financial shell-game, designed for rich nations to play landlord over poor ones.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
“Crap and Trade” is simply another investment vehicle created to enrich the broker/traders and the government. While allowing some a minimal amount of “tax credits.”
The result will be higher ultility costs to most everyone, more bureaucracy, and another market bubble to burst and cost the tax payers 100’s of billions of dollars. But there will be jobs attached to it, although these very jobs will in the end cost you more money.
I found a web site by a commodities broker explaining how by not planting crops or reversing fields to “natural” grasslands will save on their carbon tax verus plowing the fields, but even that depends on how you plow the fields, not to worry because there will be a government worker there to assist you in determining the amount of carbon released from the ground if you sink a plow into it. Or “God forbid,” if you actually plant a crop what your carbon footprint will be then.
Of course then you buy a “hedge” against the “carbon tax” from the local commmodities broker, who makes a very nice commision. I have a reasonable and basic understanding of markets, but this is without a doubt the most confusing and totally absurd thing I have ever seen. Nothing more than another shell game.

Of course you can get 30,000 scientists on the petition if they can come from any scientific background, including bachelor’s degree only. There was one scientist in an article I was reading that had a medicine background, therefore nothing relevant to global warming. It proves nothing, and your claims that greenhouse gases do nothing are wrong
July 9th, 2009 at 1:48 am
It sounds like industry would get monetary aid to comply. And there probably wouldn’t be a constant agent present; it would probably be much like health safety checks in restaurants, and the rules are definitely bent. I know, those evil government health inspectors are so horrible and fascistic
