It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.
The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.
The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.

Who were these hackers that hacked the Climate Research Emails?
If it was some 15 year old kid out there, the FBI will eventually find him and arrest him.
If no one gets arrested, my guess is that the FBI will find out it was a foreign government that is responsible for hacking these emails, and the US Government will not want a scandal with this foreign government.
If no one gets arrested, my guess is that Russia is behind this.

Early reports of when these E-mails were hacked had stated that they may had been ‘ leaked ‘ onto the internet . Perhaps there is a ‘ whilsleblower ‘ among the IPCC’s ranks ?
I read somewhere here that this same material was leaked to the BBC some 4 weeks before the internet leak/hack .
I would think that the IPCC and the U.N. will go with the ‘ hacked ‘ version of the story so they can focus on the crime of hacking , and not the issue of ClimateGate .
This could also be a ploy by the Global Elite to Limit Internet Access as well . Now all of us aren’t only Terrorists for not going along with the NWO , we’re going to be labelled as Hackers as well . . . .

it wasn’t the same material: the emails in FIO2009.zip include dates to November 12, 2009. Unless the dates are faked, he couldn’t have gotten those in October.
Their response hasn’t been formulated yet, they’d rather it just went away or didn’t get any bigger until after Copenhagen.
internet security starts at home of course: Hadley probably left this stuff out on their intranet for all the students and staff to see.
If you want to find what sort of stuff people leave lying around for the whole world to see, use Google.com to search “google hacks” and try some of the search tips you find. You might be surprised.

the leaker was almost certainly a student at East Anglia. the files were likely already segregated for deletion by Hadley CRU in fear of FOI requests, the student probably just copied the directory tree to another directory at a UNIX shell level.

In my opinion, Jones and ALL other scientists at CRU and elsewhere shown to have been academically dishonest should not only be jailed, have all assets of theirs and their immediate family siezed, convicted and jailed, but they should also be stripped of all but their BS degrees.
Think about it a moment — we trust physicians to be honest in their diagnosis of our ailments and they can have their licenses to practice revoked: we trust attorneys to represent and defend us to the extent of the law (and to know the law): Why shouldn’t scientists (especially those with political clout) be held to the same level of ethics? If a community is based on integrity, as science is, then those who show they cannot abide by the basis of the community do NOT deserve to belong to said community.
However, since these clowns have been whored out by the elites, I suspect the matter will be dropped/ignored by almost all citizens and the Copenhagen Treaty will get rammed down our throats regardless.

Monitors, please give this notion and post a chance. I am not goofing on anyone.
It may go over many heads, but, there will be someone that reads this that will understand, and they may be able to take it further than I can.
Of all the conspircies that have emerged before our eyes in recent years, there is a real awakening going on and I know I am not saying anything new about that. But every so often I get insights attempting to correlate in a way that is difficult to discribe and it reminds me of quantum physics realizations. Please allow me to explain.
The banking crisis reminds me a lot of the quantum theory of multiple universes, where the electrons phase in and out, serving multiple realities. Wherby, the electrons would be a lot like our currency(money) and the Fed would be much like a quantum space, or a wormhole between the different dimensions. It really makes me think this model(banking as it exists today) has been back engineered by a quantum physicist, or that a banker studying quantum physics and the behavior of electrons recognized electron phasing using priviledged knowledge about banking models.
I am recognizing many parallels similar to this one example, as our leaders seem to phase in and out from one paradigm and illusion to another, as if they were like electrons phasing in and out through some sort of black hole that I can only compare to as, “classified and the Federal Reserve – exchange of E=MC2. That is, these models seem to be following a collective awareness where the same relative principles are applied and reapplied in almost a copy cat fashioned, implying that some genius back and forward engineering has intentionally been adopted.
I am not trying to say the controllers are from another universe, or that they travel in and out of multiple dimensions, but rather, the dynamics are similar to worm hole, electron phasing and quantum physics, where us mere mortals are not allowed to transend the event horrizon of the Federal Reserve and come face to face with it’s gate keepers, that would otherwise be considered something akin to interdimensonal criminals, hiding at a place called hole in the wall known to us mere mortals as planet earth.
I think this notion needs to be said and allowed to simmer in the minds of others and I know the people that need this notion to be said will hear and understand what I am getting at. Everything we are seeing today is the adoption and application of known models from the different schools and I find this uncanny and VERY INTERESTING, similar to the way Geopolitical awareness explains the events of 9/11 almost better than hard evidence.

Global warming and climate change has been known about by independant scientists for many decades, well before Al Gore even got into politics. It is far from a fabricated government lie, it is what ecologists and environmentalists KNOW to be true from their own investigations.
Those who say they hate the planet anyway haven’t left their neighbourhood to go out there and experience it’s beauty.
What IS a government fabrication is that we need to pay a tax on our emissions. This is just an attempt to make us work longer and harder to feed their greedy capitalism.

Yes but global warming is a natural thing, and has to do with among other things sunspots, cosmic radiation and water vapor, which is more of a GHG than Co2 ever was.
Stop being so wedded to the idea of anthropogenic GW, since this makes you very easy to manipulate. All they need to do is dump some toxic chemicals in the ocean or make another mountain of pepsi bottles in Bombay and they`ll have control of you again.

It’s not the CO2 but more the CO and other gasses, permafrost melting which will cause an exponential increase of methane in the atmosphere – greatly shifting the balance in the air.
It’s clear that it’s an environmentalist issue that the governments and corporations are trying to ride on the back of to make a profit.
But it will be fatally dangerous to arrogantly ignore the problem, when if it turns out to be true – we will have dug ourselves into a hole so big that no amout of rocket fuel will blast us out.
