MC-ing a journalism awards ceremony Monday night, press-avoider Hillary Clinton got several zingers off on her strained relationship with the political press corps.
“My relationship with the press has been at times, shall we say, complicated,” Clinton said, per Reuters’ Amanda Becker. “So I thought to myself what could possibly go wrong” about appearing before a room full of them?
Clinton was speaking at the ceremony for the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting, an engagement which became awkward three weeks ago when she appeared to be pointedly avoiding the press in the wake of reports of her private email server. It was revealed that Clinton would not take questions at the event, which clashed oddly with the theme of the award.
