featured stories Cooling Trend Puts Global Warming Theory in Doubt

Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile — the list goes on and on.

No more than anecdotal evidence, to be sure. But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA’s GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

A compiled list of all the sources can be seen here. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C — a value large enough to wipe out nearly all the warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year’s time. For all four sources, it’s the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down.

Scientists quoted in a past DailyTech article link the cooling to reduced solar activity which they claim is a much larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases. The dramatic cooling seen in just 12 months time seems to bear that out. While the data doesn’t itself disprove that carbon dioxide is acting to warm the planet, it does demonstrate clearly that more powerful factors are now cooling it.

Let’s hope those factors stop fast. Cold is more damaging than heat. The mean temperature of the planet is about 54 degrees. Humans — and most of the crops and animals we depend on — prefer a temperature closer to 70.

Historically, the warm periods such as the Medieval Climate Optimum were beneficial for civilization. Corresponding cooling events such as the Little Ice Age, though, were uniformly bad news.

hey whats up guys, im just sittin here drinkin fluoride and i noticed your website has newer shiny colors and sales adds, and alex jones appears in movies from warner brohters, one of those evil corporations wich spray propaganda everywhere haha, anyweys wake up ,y wud alex jones still be alive or not get sabotaged ,hes obviuosly only tellin half the truth and then diverting your attention to voting for ron paul , y wud u vote for ron paul if all the candidates are “selected”, this is a classic case of double think and comin outta alex jones mouth this time lol!!

    3. Michael Miller Says:

The writer seems to think that this occurence does not disprove the THEORY that carbon dioxide causes global warming! That statement is laughable at best. All of the empirical evidence supporting their “global warming theory” they use clearly shows that CO2 levels increase AFTER the planet warms NOT BEFORE. Besides they make it sound like CO2 is some poison gas like ZyklonB. CO2 is one of the life sustaining gases that is part of this planet’s eco system. Calling CO2 a green house gas is also a joke. Water vapor (clouds) is the most effective greenhouse gas in our atmosphere. This whole disproven THEORY they spew is just another “SHAKEDOWN” to get more money out of us! Anyone who buys the whole manmade warming story are being willfully ignorant and need to read to learn.

    4. Preacher Says:

I would bet there are people in these abnormally cold areas that still believe in Globel warming, even if it kept snowing through the summer because they believe the propaganda from the News, the Weather Channel, and the History Channel more than what they experience.

Busted him this past weekend for using male on male queer speech. Clear indication he has a difficult time with his own sexuality, and a quite disturbed poor bastard. Has an issue with Floride, anyone that believes in Jesus Christ and GOD. He’s a HATE MONGER :)

    10. kevink Says:

In the graph, there are four local peaks, each of which is followed within one to three years by a local minimum. In particular, there’s a peak in 1990 followed by a minimum ~0.6 degrees lower in ~1993; a peak in 1998 is followed by a minimum ~0.6 degrees lower in ~2001. That the present local mimimum follows only about one year after the local maximum actually suggests to me increasing instability. Global warming is revealed in the overall (low-pass filtered) trend. Only the future will tell, for sure, if it will continue.

    11. Hon Kairee Says:

Well at least we know he’s not lying about drinking his fluoride. By the way ME, if you feel you might be starting to think critically you can have my fluoride. That should clear it up lickity split.

Attn: ME – no-one’s perfect & there isn’t a large movie studio in the US that can’t have fingers pointed at it. Just because you wouldn’t know how to get away with spreading truth so effectively doesn’t mean it’s not impossible. I can’t figure out how Alex can be so outspoken but highly doubt there is an agenda there, other than the most humanitarian act of spreading factual information around the globe (I’m in New Zealand by the way). Alex has more than 10 employees – you think they are all going to work for free or something?

I gladly pay my $5.95 per month to be a member of prison planet, even tho I don’t need to do it. It’s the ultimate humanitarian charity as far as I’m concerned. We need to spread truth bro, TRUTH!! We owe it to our descendants to know what the f--- is happening & Alex tells it straight.

first of all i am a critical thinker, thats why i pointed out the fact that its really contradictory to say that all presidents are selected and then start saying vote ron paul he will save us. if the globalists are criminal masterminds then don’t you think they would maybe have control of alternative media. alex jones is glorifying this stuff , can’t u tell by the way his documentaries are setup to look like a movie about an evil warlord , he is contributing to making real conspiracies look like a joke just by the comical way he talks about it. u guys should look up bill and william cooper , the guys who predicted 9/11 before alex did and you should here what bill has to say about alex, by the way this guy was killed by cops, p.s it ain’t my fault the idiots in this city didn’t petition the fluoride out of the water supply lol

    20. Dan Says:

Attn: ME – I don’t think it’s impossible to do what Alex does legitimately but obviously you do. I commend Alex on sticking to what he beleives in & wish more people could be smart enough to do it without fear of big brother smashing you down. I’ve always gotten away with much more than most people so can see how it’s possible… it’s a balancing act. The fact that he rants & raves makes him safer – he’s more easily written off as a “conspiracy theorist” by the establishment. They don’t see him as the ultimate threat because so many people are actually afraid of the truth. They rely on people’s unwillingness to learn about their evil doings. In my opinion it’s a balancing act, with personal safety & not breaking the law being important aspects. I’ve had trouble with the law & abused the s--- out of them but I’m smart enough to not cross “the line” & allowing them to prosecute me for anything, ever. I’ve put dudes in hospital for stealing from me & yet I get away with it. Why? Because I’m smart & know my rights. Alex knows his rights & that is a big contributing fact.

I have the attitude of “I’d rather die on my feet than live on my knees” & be smart I reckon. It’s a game of chess & big brother only has so much resources – they have beuracracy & all sorts of problems they’d need to get around if they wanted to remove Alex. Not least of which would be the whole martardom that would follow. He speaks on radio stations every day – how do you f--- with that? The establishment does not want a revolution but if Alex went missing they’d have one I reckon.

    21. ME Says:

i think the gov might be putting female horomones into vaccines to create gay people for population control , just a thought

    22. kuritsu Says:

I know it’s a hard subject that most people avoid in their pursuit of higher education, but statistics can be highly subjective. KevinK is correct in his interpretation concerning the peaks and subsequent troughs on this graph. One of the most basic skills to learn when attempting to glean some meaning from a graphical representation of data, is to look at the graph devoid of numerical value. In that respect, this graph represents two very important things: 1) a distinct oscillation and 2) an upward trend. The misinterpretation of the noted trough as an indicator of a overall downward trend is an intellectually pedestrian opinion. To interpret the current low point as the possible beginning of a more radical oscillation that has yet to be determined with further data is a much more sound hypothesis than to assert that the trend is suddenly spiking downward.

The issue with global warming is not whether it exists or not; it does. The real issue is that Al Gore is selling people on the idea that they can stop global warming by ‘offsetting their carbon footprint’ with their checkbook. Nothing could be more ludicrous. The idea of offsetting one’s carbon footprint is a placebo designed to keep people in the dark as to what is the only solution to global warming and that is to stop burning fossil fuels, but (as many of you know) there are huge powerful interests working behind the scenes (_all_ of the scenes) to ensure that every last drop of oil is pumped out of the ground and that it goes for top dollar.

Bickering over the existence of global warming is an insane waste of time and energy that has been artfully constructed by those who wish that all of us who care would just shut up or die.

Live and let live unless we let the blood sucker try to convince us otherwise because it is all political BS. Poli (meaning “many”) tics (meaning “blood suckers”) whos agenda is it anyway?

    29. Ed Says:

I have been researching some scientific information regarding global warming and found some interesting points.

Methane (CH4) is a greenhouse gas that remains in the atmosphere for approximately 9-15 years. Methane is over 20 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 100-year period and is emitted from a variety of natural and human-influenced sources. Human-influenced sources include landfills, natural gas and petroleum systems, agricultural activities, coal mining, stationary and mobile combustion, wastewater treatment, and certain industrial processes.
Methane is also a primary constituent of natural gas and an important energy source. As a result, efforts to prevent or utilize methane emissions can provide significant energy, economic and environmental benefits. In the United States, many companies are working with EPA in voluntary efforts to reduce emissions by implementing cost-effective management methods and technologies. US-EPA 2008

What causes the Earth’s climate to change?
Climate change is complex—there are many dynamics involved. A major factor may be the relationship between the Earth and the Sun.
Astronomer Milutin Milankovitch (1879 – 1958) studied the variations in the shape of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun and the tilt of the Earth’s axis. He theorized that these cyclical changes and the interactions among them were responsible for long-term climate changes.
      Milankovitch studied three factors:
      1. Changes in the tilt of the Earth’s axis;
      2. Variations in the shape of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun; and
      3. Precession: changes in how the tilt of the axis is oriented in relation to the orbit.

I think these points are much more valid than the claims made by Al Gore and his followers. Why would Al Gore and his followers be so ignorant as to believe that taxing people will really do something about a so-called global warming problem? Global Warming is only a theor. They can’t prove any of their claims. Do you know that? So here is what we do: Educate and implement new standards? We all know that throwing money at something can’t help the problem. If people are the cause, then people are the solution. If there are activities happening in our solar system that effect our planet, if we have sincere research and make our best efforts to adapt, that is the best we can do. Money never solves a problem. But, intelligent people doing what they understand and know is good, works! I have always known that a visualized goal announced and backed up by true principals will help you accomplish anything you want to accomplish. If someone wants to accomplish something great, they never need to place people into bondage to accomplish it! Never! Go Freedom and Down with Evil!

    30. Bruce Says:

Has anyone ever stop to think of just how large our planet we live on really is and are we that proud to believe that we can actually have this kind of cause and effect. I guess if you can believe you evolved from mud to an ape to a human, then anything is possible to believe. Personally I think it is easier and takes less faith to believe I am created in the image of God. The stupidty running this planet does not understand that we have all been Hijacked and we just do not realize it. see http://www.spiritual20-20.com to see if you have been Hijacked.

I would like to propose the idea that the earthquake was a secret underground test of some sort, or maybe some government experiment. Please type ‘earthquake conspiracy’ into Google and click the fourth result down reading; ‘New conspiracy theory, secret underground test.’ You’ll probably think this is crazy but when you get the Yahoo link reading; ‘This question has been deleted’ you may start to think otherwise. In just one day this question has been posted and deleted.. Why exactly? Please also note that the richter scale has climbed from 5.0 to 5.2 and now 5.3 in media reports, there are more and more questions that need to be asked – no one needs to show you, they’re right under your nose.

      Kind regards,

      anonymous.

    32. Demonstrate Says:

I am really confused because at school we get presented with lots of evidence saying that global warming is caused by humans. We have already established it’s happening, but he question that we want to know is if humans really do contribute greatly to global warming. I don’t know whether to agree with infowars view on global warming.

    33. Tarl Bell Says:

they five you theory in schools. and then simply state it as fact. you are given partial graphs and partial “evidence,” that is treated as a gospel. It’s not that complicated; you went to school to learn, assuming that the schools knew what they were talking about, so you have no reason initially to doubt them. What screws people up is that they have no idea WHO is creating the curriculum and/or course structure and the books. Disputed science is especially a problem there. Writers/publishers are going to put down what they think is the cause, and call it irrefutable fact. Or the people funding the books will dictate that to the publishers. It’s actually a very common practice all over the world for the entire history of printed publication. And it’s not always maliciousness that drives it either. It’s often simple arrogance: a stubborn unwillingness to consider even the possibility that you could be wrong. <— definition: Stupidity.

Of course, EVERY science changes over time, so it’s a fools idea that you have something 100% proven. every time a new method of examination is created, you end up learning things you didn’t know about it.

    34. Tarl Bell Says:

correction… they -teach- you……….. not “five”…. no idea why i typed that

    35. ME Says:

i think the gov might be putting female horomones into vaccines to create gay people for population control , just a thought

    36. SeiJeff Says:

      Demonstrate,

You should ask your teachers to explain a few things to the class:
      1. How does our SUVs contaminate the environment of Mars and cause it’s polar ice caps to melt?

      2. If the earth’s temperature is connected to post-industrialist pollution, why was the tempurature during the Midevil Climate Optimum an average of 10 degrees warmer without the pollution of modern society or even the number of people that are presently on the planet?

3a. Why do the international proposals such as the Kyoto Protocols and other UN agreements on the environment require the United States and Europe to regulate their pollution, but countries that have emerging economies such as India and China are allowed to have no pollution regulations even though their levels of pollution are far worse even now than any other nations?

3b. Since India and China combined constitute over a third of the world’s population, and the environmentalists believe that humans cause pollution, shouldn’t that prove that nations with the highest concentrations of people are the ones that should be most highly regulated if humans are inherently the source of the problem?

      4. Where were most of the environmental clean-up technologies invented, and what does that say about the nature of the economic system of the societies that brought them about?

      5. If Al Gore’s theories are correct, why does the level of carbondioxide in the atmosphere actually trail the charted temperature of the atmosphere by as much as 800 years?

These questions and their true answers will tell you what the agenda of the environmental movement really is, and what their underlying philosophies are. They are not about the environment, but rather the destruction and control of all free societies.

    37. Demonstrate Says:

Tarl Bell, I always question the school cirriculam in Britain. Your so right I wasn’t sure about global warming and to be honest I am still not quite sure on my position, but after seeing so many graphs and “evidence” to support it, I instantly believed. But to be fair to my school they did give a vague description to the otherside of the argument.

    38. Demonstrate Says:

SeiJeff thanks for that! I’ll print that off and ask one of my science teachers.

    39. Matt Says:

In response to Demonstrate, we have not had accurate temperature sensors long enough to be able to understand the temperature cycles of the world. The main problem with assuming manmade “global warming” is that we haven’t had instruments to measure temperature in the upper, mid, and high atmospheres of the earth and so we can’t even understand if civilisation has affected climate at all. Temperatures in the troposhere have been measured with any detail. The stratosphere and above has shown no trends of warming.
We are very VERY small relative to the world. Humans occupy a very small amount of space. Yes humans destroy alot of what we touch, but we touch very little. You have to get out and see the Great Plains, Deserts, Oceans, Rain Forests, Mountains, etc and see how much unoccupied and undeveloped land there is! Its almost seems narcissistic of us to assume polution from our machines is powerful enough to completely destroy the Earth.
No serious scientific study has been made which strongly links the last few decades of temperature rises and industrial development. China, India, and Russia have been growing and polluting almost exponentially since 1998, yet global temperatures in the troposphere (where we live) have not increased since then.
I’m ready for scientists to step up and really question this thing. I am for pollution control especially for corporations, but strongly against oxygen/carbon tax for normal people.

    42. Shay Says:

with global warming first the planet warms, then at some point (noone knows when) all sorts of weather becomes more severe whether it be snow and cold, thunder and lighning, sun and heat or whatever. with greenhouse gasses, first you fill your ozone layer with them, then holes form in it and without the protective barrier weather gets more severe. scientists say the sun is emitting less heat, i wonder if its just a theory or if they have proof. anyway heres my theory, well see if it stands the test of time.

    43. Shay Says:

i dont believe everything “they” (the bad guys) say is a lie. they mix truth and lies so they can seem credible. as long as whatever they are telling ppl causes the psycholical effect theyre going for (usually a sense of fear, futility, powerlessness, hopelessness, etc…) they could give a damn whether or not its true. so i wouldnt count out global warming as a factor cause of this article. ask yourself what can they get out of anything they tell you to benefit their desires for control and power?

    44. ME Says:

think about this.. if u can create clouds then you can create weather, theyve probly already mastered creating weather, they probly have man made hurricanes!!!

    47. Tony A Says:

I can imagine the globalists skewing this information into convincing the public that their global warming efforts are paying off and the world is cooling down! Ha!

    48. CatherineYear 2084 Says:

Yes, the globalists are looking a bit foolish, now, with more evidence showing that global warming is not happening. Too bad for them, they should of set about their scam a few decades ago if they wanted to bilk this scam for everything they could before the Truth came out.

    49. ME Says:

there is also probly alot of weather engineering being done…like creating hurricanes to murder thousands of ppl

    50. Nick Says:

I don’t believe in global warming. I believe in Global Climate Change. There’s a huge difference. But….. you can’t use one extreme year as a basis to discredit climate change. That’s like seeing a professional runner trip while running a race and calling them clumsy. However, I do agree that this could be (partly) attributed to weather engineering.

    51. Preacher Says:

According to the Bible, God is in control of the weather.

    53. Preacher Says:

There is no such thing as “Mother Nature” but it’s God that is in control and needs to be feared.

    54. John Says:

I don’t unerstand this… for years we did not have snow in Denmark, and in the 80’s it was normal to have snow every winter, what I mean is that when I look outside the window It looks like spring to me, and this is something everybody agrees about here in Denmark! So this news is strange for me.

    56. Scott Says:

Why does this only go back to 1988. So temps dropped one year – that does not make a trend. Regarding Bruce’s comment, you don’t think that we can have any impact on the earth? What about dropping fish populations? Is that just happening naturaly?

    58. Martin Says:

Data of 1 year isn’t a trend, but then neither is climate data for the last 1000 years the IPCC bases it’s (non-scientific) conclusions on. When your talking of data sets for a few million years there is nothing unusual about our current warm spell, long may it last.

Lets all hope it isn’t a trend. If you think the propaganda about man made global warming is worrying, global cooling with a 6 billion population is all your worst nightmares rolled into one.

    59. John A. Jauregui Says:

To put the whole Climate Change issue into perspective vis-a-vis the Peak Oil Crisis, everyone needs to ask themselves, their associates, all sitting elected officials and those seeking office, especially the office of President of the United States, “What is more threatening in both the long and short terms, a beneficial 1 degree F rise in average world temperatures over the past 100 years, or a 1 percent decline in world oil production over the last 100 weeks – with steepening declines forecast? Furthermore, can our economy better deal with declining fuel inventories in an environment of persistent warming, or in an environment of declining average temperatures over the next several decades, the most likely scenario given the highly reliable solar inertial motion (SIM) model forecasts of climate change?” Solar cycle # 24 will tell the tale. The problem is not AGW. The problem is the end of cyclical warming coincident with the onset of Peak Oil.

None of the Global Warming Apostles are willing to debate or lay out their evidence when any of now thousands of scientist say that global warming is fiction and cannot stand to scientific peer reviewed documentation. Instead they use character assasination to make their case usually by saying such scientist are on the pay by big oil. In the meantime billions of dollars are being spent to adovcate the global warming scare. When Albert Einstien was challenged on his theory of reativity he was told that thousands of scientist disagreed with his theory. His statement was; “It only takes one scientist to prove me wrong.” If their is any validity to global warming caused by humans due to C02 it would only take one scientifically peer reviewed article to make the case. Until I see that one case which can hold up to scientifc review I have to conclude that the Global Warming Scare is the greatest hoax of the 21st century. next one has to assume that there is an agenda to equal the hoax of global warming. In the meantime you just have to have faith and believe and you belong to the religion of Global Warming.

    63. Noah Says:

Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! The grinch stole global warming! If God could make the earth cool down by shifting gears here with the planetary forces and having the sun do its thing to show that our activities are nothing more than a blip in the vast cosmos, I think I’d start believing in him again!! I want the earth to start cooling down big time and cool down those global warmers! Oh man if we really start getting cold I’m going to laugh my ass off at these guys! They’re going to look so foolish. Dumb mother bleepers! Global warming, go home!
