County police have launched an investigation into a shot fired by Pine Lawn’s police chief last weekend that did not hit anyone but raised questions about his conduct during the incident.

County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch on Monday asked county police to look into the gunshot.

“It’s rare for the prosecutor to ask us to investigate another police department,” said County Police Chief Tim Fitch.

The police chief in Pine Lawn, Rickey Collins, fired one shot at a man who allegedly fled the scene of a seat belt checkpoint Friday night.
