DHS Wants Airline “Shock Bracelet”

A senior government official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed great interest in a so-called safety bracelet that would serve as a stun device, similar to that of a police Taser®. According to this promotional video found at the Lamperd Less Lethal website, the bracelet would be worn by all airline passengers.
This bracelet would:
• take the place of an airline boarding pass
• contain personal information about the traveler
• be able to monitor the whereabouts of each passenger and his/her luggage
• shock the wearer on command, completely immobilizing him/her for several minutes

The Electronic ID Bracelet, as it’s referred to as, would be worn by every traveler “until they disembark the flight at their destination.” Yes, you read that correctly. Every airline passenger would be tracked by a government-funded GPS, containing personal, private and confidential information, and that it would shock the customer worse than an electronic dog collar if he/she got out of line?
Clearly the Electronic ID Bracelet is an euphuism for the EMD Safety Bracelet, or at least it has a nefarious hidden ability, thus the term ID Bracelet is ambiguous at best. EMD stands for Electro-Musclar Disruption. Again, according to the promotional video the bracelet can completely immobilize the wearer for several minutes.
So is the government really that interested in this bracelet? Yes!
According to a letter from DHS official, Paul S. Ruwaldt of the Science and Technology Directorate, office of Research and Development, to the inventor whom he had previously met with, he wrote, “To make it clear, we [the federal government] are interested in…the immobilizing security bracelet, and look forward to receiving a written proposal.” The letterhead, in case you were wondering, came from the DHS office at the William J. Hughes Technical Center at the Atlantic City International Airport, or the Federal Aviation Administration headquarters.

It seems as though there is a fundamental design flaw in this plan. If someone intends to do harm, why would they ever voluntarily wear this bracelet? They wouldn’t. They would find a way to sabotage or fake it.
But then, if you see it not as a safety measure, not as a way to prevent a terrorist act, but as a way to dominate law-abiding travelers, shocking and herding them like cattle, it suddenly makes sense.
I think they fucked up on this one though. I’m sure this story will never see the light of day in the MSM, but if it did, there would be a massive backlash. No one wants to wear an electronic leash. Even average people who normally support the police state would be squeamish about this. The DHS is pure evil, and I say that in all seriousness. I do not believe they are even pretending to operate under the illusion of good intentions. They have zero interest in saving lives. They have created this multi-billion dollar security apparatus, and have no terrorists to fight. So do they just pack it up, call it a day, and hope that Bin Laden will put on his villain mustache tomorrow?
No…this is what they do instead. They are the terrorists, that much is fucking obvious. I think you have much more to fear from the person who wants to electrocute and control you than you do from the person who simply wants to murder you.

Imagine it’s application at all private events: Concerts, sports arenas, conventions. Strip searched, a bracelet; tagged, bagged and into the cattle pen, have a nice day. The time is getting late. So much so fast. It’s incredible. The stuff we won’t find out about till fifty years from now (maybe never) I’m sure are real doosies. I’m getting paranoid. The wording of that phrase will allow for the 9-hour runway-ordeal-delays before the flight even takes off.
And if they divert your flight to send you to a six-month stint in a detention/re-education camp, before flying you to your original intended destination, then the bracelet will be on the whole time. You’ve heard of them losing baggage, now they will lose people. haha
OR.. they can divert entire flights , hundreds of people at a time, out the country to slave labor/organ harvesting facilities.

Do they honestly think this is going to really fly ? I already don’t fly, if they put this into place i don’t think i ever will again. Any terrorist would be able to disable the metal contacts. This story is soon to be irrelevant. The airlines are not going to fly if fuel costs raise any higher. This is totally nuts. It will be refused by most purely on the grounds of trust of the no doubt private company operating it and the risk of malfunction not to mention these things causing the death of innocent travellers.

Consider this: Cocaine couriers travel every day on flights without getting caught often with many kilos of contraband. The people who are most fully aware of this is the airline security itself. Surely if some can get away with carrying kilos of drugs than you could also get away with kilos of explosives.
How many planes have been blown up this way in the last 5 years bearing in mind that the oppurtunity occurrs on a daily basis? Yes that’s correct NONE! This proves that none of the airport security measures are effectively “keeping passengers safe” from a threat which clearly does not exist.

To whom it may concern,
I recently saw this article in the Washington Times. This wasn’t the Enquirer. Now, I APPLAUDE YOU FOR TRYING TO FIND NEW WAYS TO KEEP THE PUBLIC SECURE ON AN AIRLINE BUT ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND!? What you are talking about with your “EMD” technology is absurd and the American people will NOT tolerate this kind of blatant police state tactics. The very idea of this goes against the fabric of what this country is about! Your video is incorrect in stating that you feel that the public would not mind a device like this, I would.
Not to mention the inherent flaws with your proposed technology. Firstly, there is no guarantee that a criminal will not cut off the bracelet prior to committing an act of terror. Additionally, how can you send a debilitating signal to one bracelet without setting off all the bracelets on a plane with others FORCED to wear this Biometric ID Tag that treats individuals like cattle. And what about ID theft? You have to know that eventually someone will come up with a device to read the Biometric signature from the device and then what? No thanks, I’ll drive rather then fly in the world you live in; then you bankrupt the airline industry in the process? Sounds like you need a better business plan!

Rocco – That was a good letter, thank you for sending that. You did misquote Benjamin Franklin though. He didn’t say we would lose both liberty and security. He said, to paraphrase, that he who gives up liberty for security deserves neither. You could be perfectly secure in a locked, isolated cell, but you wouldn’t be free. So to say that you would lose both isn’t really making a point. The reason that we are currently losing both liberty and security is because the jackbooted thugs don’t care whether we are safe or not. When they’re fighting an imaginary enemy, fulfilling their stated job duties becomes less of a priority. You could have security without liberty.

The entire public should refuse to fly as long as this “shock bracelet” is required. This will bankrupt the airlines. Then the citizens should pool their money and buy those airliners assets cheaply. The new airline should not require these “shock bracelets.” This solution may lead to some short term pain, in that you will have to drive for days instead fly for a few hours, but you must not accept these, for if you do, they will extend their use throughout society.
Just imagine their expanded uses: Probationers required to wear them (like the ankle bracelet) but could shock them if they leave the zone they are required to be in (the device could be set up to explode if tampered with, thus blowing off the wearer’s hand). There was a movie with Rutger Hauer where the device was around their neck and could blow their head off.
Also remember, small bus companies can be set up to go coast to coast. If they have no stops
and have teams of drivers coast to coast is doable in 48 hours.

The important points are these: historically, every government that, as it’s last gasp, begins to erode rights (torture, surveillance, etc.) sooner or later has turned it against their own citizens. Secondly, most of these actions are not to provide security but to cover up the shortcomings and corruption. If they had enforced the laws that were already on the books, 09/11 wouldn’t have happened. period. So, they had to act like 09/11 was unpreventable and unforeseen, hence the expansion of law enforcement powers and expanded government. They’ve ballooned government to unmanageable proportions, so none of the developments that were added to law-enforcement can be worked…and so on and so forth.
Supposing they do start using the bracelets…what’s to prevent the company who manufactures them to get lazy and start issuing defective bracelets? Or allowing them to become out-dated? Or selling the plans to a foreign concern, who leaks them to an enemy? Who disables his but shocks the crew and passengers?
Nothing our current Administration has done – nothing – has worked anytime, anywhere, no matter how many people were appointed, money spent, speeches made. Nothing. Not FEMA, not the FCC, not the FDA, not the Dept. of Agriculture…nobody.
And even the staunchest of Bush supporters knows this, in their heart of hearts. Their tone, their rhetoric betrays them, even now.
And as we used to say in lifesaving, there’s nothing more dangerous than a drowning man.
And that’s what scares me.

So, now as we expand our energy in fighting amongst ourselves over questions of no importance to the people who are destroying the United States, you might be able to see why all this blogging back and forth has absolutely no effect on their agenda. It’s just a bitch session.
As we do these things we are doing exactly as they planned. And we thought we were informing people. If you think you are informing people, please ponder these questions: When was the last city council meeting you went to? When was the last community group you met with when they had an open discussion evening? When was the last time you went to a neighborhood function and handed out flyers? If you are doing any of these, I applaud you. If you haven’t done any of them, I would highly suggest you attempt to find out their times of meeting and attend. If not, all your typing, name calling, disagreeing, are only past time habits awaiting the knock on the door asking you to step in the van for your own protection. Hitler did the same thing. Never forget that all throughout time history has continually repeated itself.
My fellow truth and freedom seekers, it all starts with the money and ends with the money. Funny how people get so pissed off about everything in the world except the money. Fuck how much oil costs, or anything else. The reason the prices are where they are, and our country is beginning to fall is because in 1913 a criminal named Woodrow Wilson signed the 13th Amendment (Federal Reserve Act) and gave away Congresses right to print, coin, and regulate the value therein. And with that 13th Amendment had to be a promise to pay the interest, so was born the 16th Amendment (Federal Income Tax). Notice any similarities “Federal Reserve Act” “Federal Income Tax” !!
Until we the American people demand by ease, or by force, that the 13th and 16th Amendments be abolished, repealed and destroyed, there is no hope for any of this to ever stop until they have completed making the once great United States a third world country.
My hopes and heart to all who can help make a difference in trying to get the Federal Reserve Act and the Federal Income Tax abolished and repealed. If we did this, we would see a completely different country here in the United States and elsewhere in the world.
If we don’t form together and stop fighting amongst ourselves, we have no chance at all.
Doesn’t anyone find it amazingly hypocritical that you can not say the pledge of allegiance in schools, you can not have prayer in schools. Yet, every morning before Congress meets they have a Pastor come onto the house floor and say a prayer for all of them, and immediately after the prayer has ended, they all stand and face the flag and say the pledge of allegiance. Hmm.
And last but not least, we are not a democracy, never was meant to be one. We are a republic!
And to the Republic for which it stands, doesn’t mean and to the democracy for which the mob rules.
A democracy is nothing more than 2 wolves and 1 sheep meeting to discuss what’s for dinner.

At least two people have already died (that we know of) in custody at airports since the TSA system began…how much success do they think they’ll have simply by getting more technological? It took court cases and an Act of Congress to get them to train and use the Defib devices, for cryin’ out loud! And there’s still no hard core evidence one way or the other on the use of cell phones, laptops, etc. during and after take-off, just that nothing’s been “proven” yet…

Anyways, besides this stupid fuck, Rick, i have to say something about the topic. I would not even consider putting a taser bracelet on myself, friends, or my children. I have a feeling that these things are not only going to be used in the airports, but they will be used in everyday life. I believe that every man, woman, and child will be forced to wear these fucking devices and if the cops think that you are suspiscious… here it comes… ZZZZZAAAAPPPPPP!!!!
