Did Palestinian Activist Riad Hamad Commit Suicide?

After police fished the body of Riad Hamad out of Lady Bird Lake in East Austin, Texas, they told the media the non-violent Palestinian activist and directing coordinator of the Palestine Children’s Welfare Fund had committed suicide.
“Right now, the indications are that this was not, there was not foul play involved,” police Sgt. Joseph Chacon told KXAN, never mind Mr. Hamad was found bound with duct tape. “Parkgoers who saw the body said the death did not look accidental. They said the man’s face was wrapped with duct tape, and his arms appeared to be tied in front of his body.” KXAN did not bother to explain how Hamad managed to wrap himself in duct tape.
It should be obvious Hamad had a bit of help, although it is apparently too much to expect the corporate media to point out the absurdity of the police explanation. “When the body was removed from the lake, tape was found around the eyes, and the hands and legs were loosely bound,” the Austin police’s public information office expects us to believe. “The bindings of his hands and legs and placement of the tape were consistent with Hamad having done this to himself. Detectives know that Hamad walked from his vehicle to the water on his own based on evidence retrieved from the scene.” Again, no explanation how Mr. Hamad did this or more to the point why a person supposedly interested in suicide would wrap himself in duct tape, loosely or otherwise.
Hamad was not your garden variety suicide, however. “Riad Hamad is a non-violent activist in Austin, Texas. He holds multiple Master’s degrees and has never been arrested. He is now under surveillance by the FBI because he organized the shipment of books to Palestinian children,” Free Speech TV noted before the teacher’s alleged suicide.
“The FBI has on a number of occasions conducted surveillance on Riad Hamad. His neighbors have been interviewed, his co-workers have been questioned, and packages he has sent have been opened,” admits Joe Kaufman, writing for the Scaife funded website, FrontPageMag, run by David Horowitz, a notorious neocon.
Hamad’s crime? He had a problem with Israel killing Palestinians and had shipped books to children.

On Christmas, 2006, Hamad described his crimes, so outrageous for the likes of pro-Israel neocons. He describes a trip to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s T. Don Hutto detention center in Taylor, Texas, where he talked to an incarcerated Muslim woman and “provided her with cash for phone calls and snacks for the children since the jail officials are providing them with mainly pork and ham that they do not eat,” obviously a treasonous act demonstrating his collaboration with terrorists, including Adel Suleiman, a man with a case of severe diabetes who disappeared in the “detention center” dungeons situated in Haskell, Texas, and Oklahoma.
Back in February, the FBI and IRS raided Hamad’s Palestine Children’s Welfare Fund. “We had a very unpleasant visit from the FBI and IRS agents yesterday morning and they walked out with more than 40 boxes of tax returns, forms, documents, books, flags, cds etc.,” Hamad explained in an email to Hajja Romi. “The special agent said that they have a probable cause for money laundering, wire fraud, bank fraud, etc and I think that all of it stems from more than 35 years of watching me.”
“On the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 27, award-winning schoolteacher Riad Hamad, founder of the Palestine Children’s Welfare Fund (PCWF) was getting ready to leave for work when the doorbell rang in his modest apartment in Austin, Texas. It was a dozen FBI and IRS agents bearing a search warrant from Judge Robert Pittman, known for his hostility to Palestinians and Arabs, with whom Riad had had previous experience,” explains a post on the Progressive Independent forum.
For most of the day, the agents searched every nook and cranny of the apartment, then left with more than forty boxes of papers, files, computers and CDs. No charges were filed at the time against Riad and he was not arrested, but the investigators said they had probable cause to investigate wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering.
PCWF thus joins the Middle East Children’s Alliance, Kinder USA and Holy Land Foundation — all dedicated to helping Palestinian children as a major part of their work — as objects of investigations that have damaged the functioning of their mission. In no case were these organizations found guilty of wrongdoing, and at most some people with Kinder USA were pressured into minor pleas in order to avoid costly court proceedings.
It is not a coincidence that Riad and PCWF have been targeted. PCWF has been associated with all these organizations, and it is reasonable to assume that when investigations turned up nothing there, they used the references to PCWF to go fishing. Riad has been expecting this for 37 years but refuses to be intimidated, and insists upon exercising his full right to defend Palestinian rights — and his own — in America.
Is it possible Riad Hamad was targeted for suicide as well, sort of the same way prize-winning American investigative journalist Gary Webb committed suicide with multiple gunshots to the head? Webb investigated Nicaraguans linked to the CIA-backed Contras who had smuggled cocaine into the U.S. which was then distributed as crack cocaine into Los Angeles. Gary had to go, as he had yet another book on tap before he killed himself over a stolen motorcycle. Riad had to go too, as he was a thorn in the side of the neocons, the FBI, ICE, and the IRS.
Finally, it should be remembered that back in 2003, Israel declared its intention to embark “upon a more aggressive approach to the war on terror that will include staging targeted killings in the United States and other friendly countries,” according to United Press International. “The Israeli statements were confirmed by more than a half dozen U.S. foreign policy and intelligence officials in interviews with UPI. Israeli hit teams, which consist of units or squadrons of the Kidon, a sub-unit for Mossad’s highly secret Metsada department, would stage the operations, former Israeli intelligence sources said. Kidon is a Hebrew word meaning ‘bayonet,’ one former Israeli intelligence source said.”
Is it possible a neocon hit team or as likely a Mossad “bayonet” team took out the school teacher Riad Hamad?
Certainly, it makes more sense than the lame claim that Mr. Hamad wrapped himself up in duct tape and threw himself in Lady Bird Lake.

I must put another perspective on Israel and the Palestinians.
Putting the weight upon the Israeli’s is like putting the weight upon the American/United States people ( no, the two are NOT the same) for the deeds of the Pentagon with their Lord upon their Throne in Washington, DC or blaming the people of Iraq for the deeds of the occupiers.
Lakud religionist started getting their foot in the door of Israeli politics in 1980. In 1979 Saddam Hussein nationalized the US/British Petroleum Corp. because they abused their privileges, in the same way that China forced WalMart & DELL to unionize because they ABUSED their corporate privileges.
Let’s get back to the religionist Lakud which took control in 1980 of Israeli politics, remember 1979 Iraq. OK, the religionist Christian Right contact high ranking members of the Lakud Party with no holes bared financing. Back up for a moment, since it’s physical inception ( in actuality 1917) in 1948 it has been as US/Israeli nation. Mind sets as David Horowitz – the religionist NeoCon in the US of _________ in the America’s. Their ONLY fault is a lack of EXPOSURE to other perspectives and projected forward.
It is the Christian RIGHT that is most responsible for the intentional demise of the Palestinian, not the Israeli. Jerusalem/Israel belongs to who/whom? The “religionist” Christians, no one else, the Lakud Party is merely their vehicle! Now, back to the former Bedowin/Palestinians, there is absolutely a catch 22 — get copies of the children’s text books, get in touch with the “Palestinian Mothers for Peace” & get copies of those text books. If they are NOT as I was told over the years, then by all means: Sit down with the “Palestinian Mothers for Peace”, the “Israeli Mothers for Peace” & their respective governmental counter parts.
If it is as I have been told over the past decade, time & again, that Palestinian hate breeding against Israeli’s is imbedded in their schooling, as we found in mandatory Austrian/German “religionist” Christian schooling as we have also been watching here in the US with the airing of the “Twisted Passion of Christ” movie shown to ALL religionist Christian schooling indoctrinating all of its early youth and on to their elders. Now, will “Athiest/Agnostic/Religous” amongst those “religionists” take the proper fork in the road?
O.K., I will define first “religionist” & then “Athiest/Agnostic/Religous.” A “religionist” whether they belong to a “religion” or not is still of the same mind-set with a NEED to conquer – what ever & however EVIL is described to them, a need to punish those that do not live by the Law-of-God, they must suffer in this life time as “He” suffered for YOU in that lifetime and then they are assured of their place in their future heaven with their Lord/God. But, first they are obligated to DIE in order to be in heaven with their Christ/God/Lord. remember too, that their Christ is honored with the FIRST DAY OF THE CHRISTIAN calendar, not December 25th but 7 days later: The son of Caesar being born of Virgin Birth by Caesarian Section & still honored as such in religionist evangelical US of _______ in the Trinity of the America’s!

Perhaps you have some thoughts on Mark Koernke’s statements to take action rather than wait for the criminal government to “cook” things off? By action, I assume we are talking about disruption of Federal Reserve Facilities, disruption of internet communications, getting word out to troops to stand down in Iraq, police refusing to violate the Bill of Rights, removal of persons holding elected positions guilty of acts of treason against the Constitution, especially including those conspiring with the State of Israel in the surreptitious overthrow of America.

Is it at all possible to get back to the topic of this post? The fact that a man was found dead floating in a lake, and that it COULD be a hit, but the other side of the story is that IF Riad committed suicide it is precisely because of the INTENSE stress he was under with the govt’s latest “investigation” in to him? Either way he is DEAD because of our government! (and I am not taking either side on this at all, suicide or murder, NOT at all)
Please listen to this radio interview. You will have to fast forward to when the interviewer starts talking about Riad’s death which is somewhere around 25 minutes, but at 37 minutes, a friend of Riad’s who worked closely with him is on, listen to her closely, and you will see, this man’s death has left a hole in the solidarity trying to help the Palestinian people, not just a bunch of people going off on some tangent!

If you read me correctly, I did not say he committed suicide, it isn’t what I said whatsoever. Furthermore, I completely agree with your statement. What I said before was that no matter what the precise cause of death, be it suicide or murder, EITHER way this man died at the hands of the powers that be. In February if you listen to the link I gave for the radio interview, in particular listen to his friend Mary, the FBI threatened to go after his children. His son is disabled, his daughter a graduate of Harvard then on to medical school He also had shipped the remaining inventory, the handicrafts he was selling to someone else. I am NOT saying he committed suicide, what I am saying is that this man was under SUCH pressure since February that IF he committed suicide (again I’m not saying he did), then it is BEYOND comprehension horrific. There is still his work to be carried on, he left a hole to be filled with solidarity and strength. The word “conspiracy” has a “bad” connotation, whereas it shouldn’t, it is derived from a French word which means to uncover the truth. Riad’s WORK was also uncovering the truth, working on the behalf of Palestinian children and all others in need. It is beyond measure important to carry that on, so what I was suggesting is that all the people ONLY yabbering away about it being a possible murder, to actually DO something in his honor. Riad was a GOOD man, so I don’t think his death should only be used to further an agenda which leaves out continuing what Riad did for years, HELPING Palestinian children in any way he could.

That the APD nearly immediately started identifying his death as a ’suicide’ ….despite the fact that anyone who knew Riad knew he was hardly the sort of human being to give up especially as beloved and needed as he was by his family, friends, MidSchool students, and volunteers around the country…he was a fighter…who police tell us bound himself in duct tape and had to have been a suicide since no signs of struggle were found in his car..! duh. Riad would do nothing less than try to reason with anyone…especially if he thought they were unreasonable…upset or disturbed..he was a rational logical humane and generous guy, NOT a boxer. How many lives stolen from the People before the public realizes they are in the belly of the beast?

Riad was a prominent figure in the society, whether in his country of origin: Lebanon where he headed the page of economy in one of the main daily news papers (His grandfather was one of Lebanon’s martyres of independence in the early 20th century), or in the countries he worked in: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, & Dubai. I knew him for more than 30 years. He is a pure Lebabnese from Beirut and was not related to Palestinians, although he worked hard to support the Palestinian refugees from a purely huminitarian point of view. He worked his life for a cause that he believed in. He did it peacefully and with out harming any one. Why was he murderred this way!?…this would need to be uncoverred by the authorities through a serious investigation and not through a funny local police report and a falselly alleged claim that his family reported suicidal thoughts… (BTW this did not happen at all…trust me 100%). He did not kill him self…If you know Riad you know that he can not do it and he would have never did that to him self or to any one else.

Robin, I am the one Riad sent (at least some of) his inventory to. I believe he did this because I had asked him several times how I could help P.C.W.F. further. He suggested I try to sell these items. I believe that in in NO WAY indicated any resignation on his part. He did NOT commit suicide. Riad was the type of inwardly calm and stable person who could have weathered prison for years, if that is what the F.B.I. had intended for him.
I wish I had been there to protect him. I wrote to P.C.W.F. paying my respects and asked how I could help. I do not know who might be running P.C.W.F. now. I think Riad was the only one who actually operated it. I feel a horrible loss because Riad was murdered by the Zionists. We all loved him. Riad was not a militarist nor a politicist. As far as he was concerned, the U.S., Israel, Fatah and Hamas were all the same. All that mattered to him were the children and the people of Palestine at large. This is how viscious the Zionists are. If you support the Palestinian cause and people like Riad did, then be on your guard. Make it work.

Perhaps he was instead killed by those whom he was “supporting.” With FBI closing in, the perps decided he was a liability in that he could reveal too much of his previous activities.

Since I know Riad VERY VERY well for more than 30 years & ALL his family -WITH NO EXCEPTION- agree with me that he was 100% mentaly stable through out ALL his life & based on the circumstances of his death the folowing is concluded:
1- The zionists & their allies in FBI (or at least with the cover of FBI) has perpetrated this murder.
2- The signs of turture on his body were crystal clear & the frail claim that he committed a soicide was intended to be frail to send a strong message to all his friends & colleagues which is simply: If you do like Riad , you will “commit a suicide”!

I must put another perspective on Israel and the Palestinians.
Putting the weight upon the Israeli’s is like putting the weight upon the American/United States people ( no, the two are NOT the same) for the deeds of the Pentagon with their Lord upon their Throne in Washington, DC or blaming the people of Iraq for the deeds of the occupiers.

Let’s get back to the religionist Lakud which took control in 1980 of Israeli politics, remember 1979 Iraq. Back up for a moment, since it’s physical inception ( in actuality 1917) in 1948 it has been as US/Israeli nation. Mind sets as David Horowitz – the religionist NeoCon in the US of _________ in the America’s. Their ONLY fault is a lack of EXPOSURE to other perspectives and projected forward.

You do NOT do unto others what you would not want to come back upon they family, your children’s, children’s great grandchildren, your Elders nor your Village, you really couldn’t even conceive of that. I’ve only just learned the details of this man’s life and death and it saddens me as much as anything has recently. It also makes me absolutely hate the United States of America and many of its citizens. Could a more honorable life possibly be conceived than that of Riad’s? I’m not nearly as forgiving a person as I get the impression Riad was; I hope his killers are themselves made to suffer torment and murder, along with those Austin police department officers who covered for them.

I knew Riad too. I’m shocked to hear of his murder. He would never commit suicide, it wasn’t him and it was against his beliefs. I don’t know how much longer we have to put up with this bulls--- before people start to recognize the real culprits here. It’s all the same, whether you call them neocons, imperialists, terrorists, or plain old US Government, the fact is, Zionists control this country and everywhere else. The US has blood on its hands no doubt, but it’s hard to know where Anglo America ended and Zionist America began but I can tell you, Anglo America ended a long time ago. We are an occupied territory and even if we tried to change this country for the better, made it a true system of justice, something it’s never been, while they control us, while they spew racism in their media, entertainment industry, publishing industry, educational institutions, and bought and paid for US government, we cannot make the changes necessary. It’s time we stop the political correctness and recognize this monster for what it is.

I’ve just read some of Hamad’s writings about Bush, some of them sent to the president, and I just bet Bush himself ordered his FBI goons to murder the guy. Yeah, it may have been Zionists, whether Christian Zionists or Jewish Zionists, but little Bush is known to be a murderous, vengeful thug, and Hamad’s writings to him pulled no punches. He was straight up and in your face about the fascist hell Bush has created in this country and one thing Bush won’t tolerate is having his crimes pointed out to him. fbi harrasment is on the rampage! i thank god that each time i had expriances w/ them i was with friends that witnessed all the crazyness. they would say things like ” this is so crazy – you can’t make this stuff up.” i am an activist in nyc with palestine and anti-war stuff .
in sept.05 my roommate was arrested at a bag search in nyc and when he showed our address the fbi was called in and they told him to get away and to stay away from me and that i am a dangerous person and i associate with dangerous people and they said arabic names to him. he called me all freaked out from a pay phone saying he can’t be my roommate anymore(we were in the process of moving), don’t call him on his cell phone any more, all the weird stuff appearing in the apt that none of us put in there is not a coincisidence (we were blessed with a polaroid photo of some whitish, guy with an american flag on this t-shirt standing in some airport tunnel , a museum style tab pin with a sky blue back ground and a drawing of an eye, our nick nacks moved to completely different locations in the apt etc – this all when on the summer of 2005 BEFORE the subway search), he told me not to talk in the house, to try to notice the same people in different places. .. all 007 like.
then in oct 06 the nypd /fbi aka joint terrorist task force called me 7 times including upset and threatening messages because i refuse to talk to them. they wanted to talk to me about people i am associated with including a lebanese shia friend, they wanted to know about the emergancy contact info on my passport renewal form, they wanted to talke to me about my foriegn travels. i kept on saying i have nothing to say and they said they want to speak to me in private. all i said to them is that i don’t want to talk to them. one called back and left a pricless message saying “you can hang up all you want but we will talk to you.. you can do it the easy way or the hard way, we will come to your apt again and all your neighbors will know (they did complete with a folder on me and a photo – completly freaking out my land lord to no end) we will come to your job and all your co-workers will know. its over, you can do it the easy way or the hard way… you will talk to us and you have no choice” i told my lawyer everthing and he told me the # they called me from the last 4 times was from nypd headquaters. he talked to them and reminded them i don’t want to talk to them they told him they wanted to talke to me about my travels and about people i am associated with and he asked what travels and they did not say and he remined them that i don’t want to talk to them at all anywhere about anything and they said to my lawyer ‘well you can tell her if she won’t talk to us we will deal with her by other means” i asked what’s up with that and my lawyer said – oh they like to intimidate…you are doing the right thing in not talking to them and i told them to call me not you.
these creeps also visited my old apt in 2005 and in 2006 freaking out my neighbors in our close nit neighborhood.
my dad died in june 07 and they went to my brother a month after.
i tried to go to england with an english friend and was denyed entry – detained and then sent back here to nyc. i then applied for a visitors visa and was rejected. i got 2 X’s in my passport. … i guess that is part of the “dealing with me by other means” that the fbi told my lawyer.
what i learned from all of this is write down every single boring ass detail of weirdness that you have with these creeps and keep it simple by not talking to them. at all. they are trying to put together a big nasty puzzle about movements and activists so.. it is creepy to have them in your face but the best policy is don’t talk to the creeps.

This simply shows how dirty the American government is. I am a friend of Riad Hamad’s family, and I know very well that Riad Hamad did not commit suicide. The so-called “rightful” american government used that as an excuse. Somebody explain to me how the hell it happened that Riad Hamad was found with cuts all over his arms and in his head? And how his intestines were found rapped up in his guts? This is coming from a person who knows many of Riad Hamad’s family members and who feels great hate towards the American Government. He was a peaceful activist that never did anything wrong to anyone. He just talked his mind, and that is supposed to be allowed in America. Riad Hamad’s wife has not been saying one word about the whole issue. My bet, FBI has threatened her or her kids. It is a disgusting story and what’s funny, is that if this had happened to ANY American outside America, the biggest deal would be made out of it and it would be all over every major news channel, just because of how “important” Americans are compared to the rest of the humans in this world. f--- FBI, f--- CIA, and f--- the American government. wherever i see that somebody is liying and injuring he will see that it has a reply. So, for the Jason who surely does know anything about the case except that Riad supported the palestinian families destroyed in health and economically by the brutal and racist sionist military occupation and this is enough to attack somebody even if he has been illegally and criminally murdered, maybe by the same who are supported in turn.
Riad was one of the best persons I have known in my life, and thousands of REAL people who has known him know the same truth. Fo others, to help palestinians is a crime. But we will not stop until it be unveiiled who are the real criminals. And in the meanwhiles more Riads will support the palestinian youth and childhood of this barbarie that tries to reduce them to zero in as imilar way as the yankeed did with the indians.
