Jeff Rapley put up the chalkboard sign up in front of his store Ripley’s Midtown Quality Meats on the in a bid to attract more customers.

But the Aussie, in New South Wales, may have bitten off more than he could chew after he was forced to apologise for the controversial sign, saying the reaction had got “way out of hand”.

The sign read: “Eating two strips of Rapley’s award-winning bacon for breakfast reduces your chance of being a suicide bomber by 100 per cent.”

Meant only to promote the butcher’s own award winning bacon, it was spotted by a keen eyed resident, who complained to staff.
