Hey folks, i left a job back in December of 2008. I had about 5k in savings. Yea, i should not have done that considering the economic situation. However, i was not going to tolerate working for a dyke boss anymore. Horrible deal. Did not qualify for unemployment. I found a few part time gigs to pay the bills, to cover the basics.
I turned a job down in April because the pay was not right, and i knew i would not be happy with it In October, i interviewed with a competitor, and was offered 20k more!
I’m telling you people, don’t give up! Keep fighting, believe in yourself, and eventually,
you will hit pay dirt. I have confidence in myself, and spiritually, i believe God has to take us through some dirt to teach us something. Sure, i had to cut way back for many months,
but now i’m happy because i found a great job. You can do it!

It does in the sense that they have cut wages, and forced workers to be more productive while paying them less. So on the books, it looks like profits are up, simply because they are paying their workers less money. It’s double speak. Bloomberg took some of the shine off the 3.5% growth in GDP. This large number was primarily due to the gov’t run “cash for clunkers” program. (Another taxpayer subsidy to the auto industry)
Subtract the subsidy and the GDP was a merger 1.9%.
Not meager was the 539,000 NEW filings for unemployment, much worse than expected.
More layoffs expected to continue thru the early part of 2010, some are now predicting 11%-11.5% unemployment. Even worse than expected.
No Jobs = NO RECOVERY.

GDP includes government spending. In other words, it does not matter how many manufacturing jobs are lost or go oversees, or how many private sector companies go bankrupt; as long as government expands and spends fiat money, the GDP will show growth. This is not real growth or real wealth, as the government can only take from those who produce and redistribute to those who do not. Meter readers, IRS agents, homeland security agents, park rangers, white house staffers, town mayors, state department employees and cia officers produce no wealth. Agriculture, mining, energy and stuff that comes out of the ground and is refined or used as raw materials is real wealth. As this latter wanes, the former grows.

GDP = private consumption + gross investment + government spending + (exports − imports), or,
GDP = C + I + G + (X − M).
So, you are patially right that the GDP includes government spending would account for some of the GDP growth. You missed the biggest of all in your government spending…purchase of weapons for the military.

Actually people, can you not figure out that there is a difference between the GDP growth and the job growth? Of course jobs would lag, since companies need to make enough money and feel relatively cofident before they know they can start advertising help wanted, interviewing and hiring.
But of course, I don’t think we have a real recovery here, but rather a Ben Bubble (that is – a Helicopter Ben Bubble). And by the way these numbers for the 3rd quarter (which of course takes into it’s calculation government CPI numbers), is only the Advanced GDP report for the 3rd quarter 2009. The primary GDP report comes out at the end of November, and the final GDP report comes out at the end of December. So we won’t even have the final “official” numbers on the 3rd quarter of 2009 until about the end of this year of 2009.

A reduction of the work force + A reduction of people + same amount of work hours, distributed to on call and part time workers with some full time workers = no benefits to employees, more profits and more power to executives. They have it all figured out and they are creating systems to monitor every single action you do so they can measure the hours produced versus what you charge on your timesheet so that they can continously reduce the work force. Baby boomer retiring will not produce more jobs because they have moved many of those jobs overseas or eliminated them all together and they have created a new system that is much more profitable to the Elites. Then when you look at the possibility of reducing the populations, it makes even more sense. I see it ! Do you see it ?

It’s just weird. I work at a church and we are getting overwhelmed at the requests for financial aid, and our food drive FOR THE FIRST TIME is having trouble getting enough food for those in need.
My job (so far) is stable, but I have 3 siblings. My sister? Her husband worked at the same factory for over 20 years. He’s had his salary reduced and only works 3 days per week. The factory is not currently in production. His days are numbered. He works odd jobs to make ends meet. Both of my brothers work in commercial construction, one locally and one out-of-state. They’ve both been told their days are numbered as the contracts have all dried up.
These are guys who have worked in their prospective fields for decades where their expertise is highly sought after. All three men have stuck it out the longest while their coworkers have been laid off or let go. They went from working long hours (to make up for the lack of coworkers) to shortened hours with the eminent threat of dismissal.
Yeah, sure, someone out there is making money. But there are more who are going under. Gerald Celente’s words keep coming to mind…

Same here. My business of 14 years has tanked, my brother in construction believes his days are numbered also, no new contracts. Other friends have been bought out of their contracts/early retired. Small businesses are struggling to stay open, hoping to stay open and keep their employees through the holidays. Many have expressed that they cannot last another year without the economy picking up considerbly.
If you are 50+ and have been laid off, you have seen your last decent paycheck. Wages shrank last month 0.2%, largest decline since 1982. New thinking by some economists is now 11-11.5% unemployment next year. No end in sight. Then when the unemployment numbers do subside, it will be another 5-6 years to replace the jobs lost. But everyone knows mostof the lost jobs are never returning.
The once great middle class will be transformed into a new class of “working poor.”

1) Banks continue to restrict lending.
2) Economic stimulus is directed primarily to the financial sector.
3) A dramatic productivity surge is undermining employment.
4) Globalization continues to outsource jobs.
The solution is to introduce tariffs redress the trade deficit, redirect stimulus to jobs-creation, not financial speculation, build out the alternative energy infrastructure. . .

Who knows if there will be a recovery or not. We’ve had recessions (even the Great Depression, which was A LOT worse than this) and there has always been a recovery.
Why are people thinking that this is THE BIG ONE and there will be no recovery this time.
Nobody really knows yet for sure.
There might be a recovery, and there might not be a recovery.
Give it time and we’ll see.
