Proposed 9/11 Museum Admission Charge is Too Steep: Editorial

It is stunning that the organization building the 9/11 museum at the World Trade Center plans to charge a lofty admission fee. Blame a lack of sensible planning.

For Staten Islanders, who lost so much at Ground Zero — indeed for all New Yorkers — the proposed charge of $20 to $25 to enter the underground site is asking too much.

Remaining free of charge is the memorial plaza, which opened in 2011. It features twin reflecting pools at the scene where terrorists left nearly 3.000 people dead.

But it might cost a family of four up to $100 to visit the museum, which pays tribute to the victims with multimedia displays, artifacts and archives. It is to open in April 2014.
