While I share the tongue and cheek comments from fellow posters, I can see a time in the not to distant future when we do have robotic armies, now mind you not on the scale of I-Robot or the Terminator but I can see it coming eventually. Because if you think about it, the Government is already experimenting with Exo-Skeleton Armor for “LIVE” troops, where robotics meets humanity to give soldiers electronic senses, super human strength. Now take that in conjunction with the newly introduced unmanned spy planes, smart weapons, smart bullets even and realize that the pieces are falling into place even as we speak. I feel the government will continue at all costs this type of fusion of human and machine until the human part of the equation becomes the machines weakest link and the human is eliminated from the process, thus we’ll have the cybernetic robots as spoken of earlier.

In other words, a robot isn’t just going to think “Hm, I think I don’t like serving humanity so I am now going to turn against them and enslave them”. No, if they kill the wrong side it’s going to be due to a glitch, it doesn’t mean they are thinking, and they won’t be acting out to accomplish any sort of “plan”

I am a programmer. Unless the government is using some kind of new fancy computer systems that can think for themselves, none of this will happen. Robots do not think. They do not learn (only what they are programmed to adapt to). They do what they are programmed to do and nothing more.

There could be bugs that cause a self-acting robot to misidentify its targets, perhaps attacking anything that moves. The robots could be linked by a network and one may have a bug where it sends an already programmed “massacre” command to all the others and the robots just all go crazy killing everything that moves. But all of that would have to be already programmed in order for bugs like that to exist.

I love the skeptics don’t worry attitude. It’s very simple. Humans ARE predators. So you have predators engineering military robots. This is not fiction. How many times does programming code go wrong?? Constantly. When singularity is reached people will not be writing the code, because it would take longer and be more costly. Artificial Intelligence is ALREADY designing warheads. Do a search on Stephen Thaler and his work for DARPA and other DOD. The British have designed the ECOBOT which powers itself by digesting the living, and turning that into electricity. There will be nobody at the controls of autonomous robots, but artificial intelligence, and do you really think a higher intelligence is going to be controlled by beings that can’t even control themselves. We are basically ALL being sacrificed to make the new evolution, of man to machine, and with all that computers control already, it’s possible that singularity has occurred already, but the bots are smart enough to lie low and set up the infrastructure to get rid of the obsoletes. That’s us. Electromagnetic Pulse is only a threat to electronics engineered without taking EMP’s into consideration. If you think the military is going to have robots without EMP protection, your just not thinking.

Seal, you are a freak. Read the fear mongering article “Latvia’s Government Collapses”. All that means is that a vote of no confidence in the ruling party has been made and new elections start up. It is a parliamentary system.
