Explosion at Times Square Recruiting Station

An explosive device caused minor damage to an empty military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, shaking guests in hotel rooms high above.
Police blocked off the area to investigate the explosion, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m., shattering the station’s glass entryway. No one was injured.
“If it is something that’s directed toward American troops than it’s something that’s taken very seriously and is pretty unfortunate,” said Army Capt. Charlie Jaquillard, who is the commander of Army recruiting in Manhattan.
He said no one was inside the station, where the Marines, Air Force and Navy also recruit.
Witnesses staying at a Marriott hotel four blocks away said they could feel the building shake with the blast.
“I was up on the 44th floor and I could feel it. It was a big bang,” said Darla Peck, 25, of Portland, Oregon.
“It shook the building. I thought it could have been thunder, but I looked down and there was a massive plume of smoke so I knew it was an explosion,” said Terry Leighton, 48, of London, who was staying on the 21st floor of the Marriot.
Members of the police department’s bomb squad and fire officials gathered outside the station in the early morning darkness, and police cars and yellow tape blocked drivers — most of them behind the wheels of taxicabs — from entering one of the world’s busiest crossroads. Police began allowing some traffic through around the start of rush hour.
Though subway cars passed through the Times Square station without stopping in the early hours of the investigation, normal service was soon restored, with some delays.
The recruiting station, located on a traffic island surrounded by Broadway theaters and chain restaurants, has occasionally been the site of anti-war demonstrations, ranging from silent vigils to loud rallies.
In October 2005 a group of activists who call themselves the Granny Peace Brigade rallied there against the Iraq war. Eighteen activists, most of them grandmothers with several in their 80s and 90s, were later acquitted of disorderly conduct.
The recruiting station was renovated in 1999 to better fit into the flashy ambiance of Times Square, using neon tubing to give the glass and steel office a patriotic American flag motif. For a half century, the station was the armed forces’ busiest recruiting center. It has set national records for enlistment, averaging about 10,000 volunteers a year.
Police said it was too early to say if the blast may have been related to two other minor explosions in the city.
In October, two small explosive devices were tossed over a fence at the Mexican consulate, shattering three windows but causing no injuries. No threats had been made against the consulate, and no one took responsibility for the explosion, police said.
At the time, police said they were investigating whether it was connected to a similar incident at the British consulate on May 5, 2005.
In that incident, the explosions took place in the early morning hours, when Britons were going to the polls in an election that returned Prime Minister Tony Blair to power.
In both cases, the instruments were fake grenades sometimes sold as novelty items. They were packed with black power and detonated with fuses, but incapable of causing serious harm, police said.

You know, I don’t agree with everything the New World Order does. However, if this attack was carried out by 9/11 truth groups, I think a case can be made for internment camps in the US for “patriots”. Look, Al Quada and the 9/11 truthers are one and the same, they are the “blue-eyed” terrorists that our intelligence agencies are warning us about. He just had a congressional fight come from out of nowhere and he opted to defend his congressional seat as a priority over leading the country. That is admirable. Furthermore, Alex HAS continued to make bold statements concerning Ron’s 70/30 victory over Peden. Now that his House seat is secure, it’s just Ron Paul vs. McCain. Ron is the most conservative candidate running, and his chances of winning have bounded forward as we continue to rally behind him. Now that he has just won a major victory to retain his seat in Congress, he will only have that much more fuel propelling his campaign.

Yeah people will believe anything. 9/11 was an inside job?? A false flag?? Why would the United States government attack and blow up their own people? Has the United States ever done this sort of thing before? No. People make a big deal out of building 7 collapsing after on top of itself even though it didn’t get hit by a plane. Have you heard of a really hot fire? Fire knocks things down. There was a really hot fire on an upper floor that eventually led to its collapse. And people make a big deal out of our air defense system failing, and how the pentagon was hit an hour and a half after the first plane hit the trade center, without a fighter jet intercepting it. Big deal, mistakes happen. I don’t care if we have the best air force….mistakes are bound to happen. The truth is, our Government has a long history of protecting our own people. We have an amazing track record. We would never hurt our own people or stage events against our own people. People talk about Northwoods but that never became operational.

Why would 9/11 truth groups bomb a recruiting station? This bombing was too small to really accomplish anything, and in no case would bombing recruiting stations benefit the 9/11 truth movement. That doesn’t rule out someone crazy in the 9/11 truth or another political movement from doing such a thing, but no rational person would have any motive for such an attack.

Ahhh Joe. Do you really feel that much better with your head burried securely in the sand? Wake up, building seven had a fire on the upper floor, that’s true, however, your statement of “fire knocks things down” is completely false. The towers used that argument but they also had the whole burning jet fuel thing to use with it. Look into your fire history, buildings have burned for hours upon hours for whole days and not fallen down.
As far as the US never attacking its own people… well that is completely debateable. What about Pearl Harbor? There is a ton of documentation to show that the US had express knowlege that the attack was coming, chose to let it happen as a means to go to war. Read a book Joe and turn off your TV.
As for mistakes happening, yeah that is a fair thing to say. Too bad they made the mistakes on the day that they just happened to be running war games under the premise of the exact scenario that actually took place. I mean when you have everything mobilized in defense of hijacked airlines as a drill, what better timing to have to actually deal with the real thing? Mistakes happen but in this case you can take your “best airforce” and give your head a shake.
Read a book Joe, and get started trying to pull your head out of the sand, it’s burried pretty deep and will take a lot of effort on your part to pull it free!

You mentioned that the 9/11 attackers were trained by our government/CIA. This is true but you are missing the point. Al Quada is an advanced network of terrorists. They infiltrated the highest levels of our government without our knowledge. Yes, some of them were CIA agents but we had no idea that they were members of Al Quada. These guys are that good. The are sophisticated and patient. Why is that hard for people to grasp? And perhaps this sophisticated group planted explosives building seven. And Steven Jones talks about how the evidence suggests that the trade centers were brought down by explosives. This may be true, why is it hard to grasp that perhaps these sophisticated Al Quada members, who infiltrated our CIA, plated explosives in the trade center before getting on the planes?

You think it would be that hard to hijack a plane, when the SOP for the airlines at that time was to go along with it. Arabs have been hijacking planes for decades, and this was the first time they flew them into buildings. Please, tell me what military SOP was defied.

The fires burned for hours, and that is a misrepresentation of facts to call the fires few, small and scattered. The BBC is a non-starter. Just because someone might have a motive, doesn’t make them guilty. These are not facts, this is conjecture.

The members of that panel were unbiased and answered most of my questions…not all of them but they did a decent job. Marine, your level of denial is high. A hijacking is a hijacking. Just because it’s over land doesn’t suddenly change everything. In fact, the last jet can be seen flying in over the Bay to hit the second tower, where it could have easily been intercepted.
The government had already been aware for well over an hour that planes had been hi jacked. Even though the first tower had already been struck, somehow the second plane was not intercepted despite ample warning and time.
As soon as the jets were hi jacked, FAA was notified, who in turn notified the pentagon and NORAD. And guess what marine, DO YOU THINK THEY PUT THEM ON HOLD? They have a direct line for emergencies.
The official story would be more believable if they claimed that a college grad had fell asleep at a terminal covered in Doritos and Dr. Pepper.

Actually marine, I spent some time in air traffic control school. In all cases where a plane is hijacked, the planes identifiers are highlighted immediately according to the transponder ID. All air traffic controllers have a clear and definitive separation between other air traffic and hi jacked aircraft.
The identified craft is then tracked by several agencies including NORAD, the FAA, and many others. So don’t try to sell us the littered screen excuse.
In fact, at NORAD, they can erase every plane off the command screen to solely monitor a hijacked aircraft if they need too. Including the little x’s, o’s, and numbers.

To explain: The fighters first have to be vectored to an area, which they have no idea of what is out there until they are airborne. The radar used by the fighter pilot is mounted in the nose cone and picks up returns from it’s own transmitter. The information shown on the display for the fighter (for a limited number of blips) is altitude, airspeed, and heading. As the fighter gets closer to the intercept, a controller will then help him to identify which blip is the target. That corridor is one of the most heavily traveled in the World. You think the pilot launches and can immediately with AB’s lit head directly to the intercept. That is incorrect. I never said the ATC could not identify him. It was difficult for the intercepts.

If the citizens EVER rose up to defend the constitution from an out of control GOVT. then the Marines would be the first ones to send those citizens to their graves.

Wow! I see the light. We must thank a Marine for our freedom because Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and played an important part in the attacks of sept 11th. We are free because the Marines kill thousands of people who had nothing to do with the attack of sept. 11th. Now that I think of it, I’d also like to tank a Marine for the Vietnam war!! Such a “fruitful” war that really has made brought so much freedom.

Why are people name calling trading insults and fighting with each other like a bunch of children in these posts? Why don’t we work together to fight our common enemy. Stop being distracted with bull s--- and put your time and energy into the fight for independance and freedom. If we don’t overcome our different personalities and unite, we will loose everything.
We need to educate the troops not throw jabs at them.
