WASHINGTON (AP) — The Indianapolis 500 is an attractive target for terrorists, federal authorities said, but there has been no credible or specific threat aimed at the Memorial Day weekend race.
In an internal FBI/Homeland Security Department assessment released Monday to local police, officials said such sporting events, which attract hundreds of thousands of spectators, are attractive potential targets. The assessment said these popular events are inviting to terrorists because of the potential to inflict large numbers of casualties while the whole world is watching.
The assessment is supported by a congressional report, expected to be released this week, about the threat to mass gatherings. The report, written by the democratic staff on the House Homeland Security committee, finds that major events — such as NASCAR races, the Super Bowl and presidential nominating conventions — are all attractive targets to terrorists. The report also raised the potential for infectious disease outbreaks and other bioterror threats at such events.

They will be afraid to mess with the National Institution of Indy!! Too many pissed off citizens will retaliate.
But seriously, I expect the Martial Law troops to be there in force to threaten & intimidate all spectators in the name of safety.
My son & I went to a local National Drag race, and, yes, sooooo many troops there, non smiling, checking tickets in & out of your seat, eyeing the crowds, but holding back from being agressive-then. Training us to be under guard at such an event. It put it all in perspective for me.

This will be my 20th 500 and my sons 12th. I was there for the 1st 10 Nascar races (Brickyard 400). My wife and I attended the Sept 30 2001 Formula One race. Before 911 I had always considered these events to have risk. I would be really pissed off if they Nuked us during this upcoming 500. But considering the crowd I really don’t think that it would happen there.
There are way too many VIP’s at these events for the terrorists to cause harm and this would cause way too much commotion among the elites. Except for poisoning the food that is sold to the spectators. I do not believe that the evil ones would try Indy. Yes they did run the F1 race 19 days after 911 and there was still over a hundred thousand spectators and being Formula 1 many visitors from Europe, Asia, South America and the middle east. I know, big deal, huh?

I live in Indy and I go to the 500, the Brickyard and in the past F1 races every year and intend to do so as long as I live here. I do not give a fuck what the NWO or Al-CIAda wants to do. I will not let their fear mongering ruin my enjoyment of the greatest spectacle in sports.

This is just classic fear mongering. The gov’t wants us to believe that there is always a chance that terrorist will attack. What they didn’t expect was that not everyone in the US is brainwashed and most are finally realizing that 9/11 had nothing to do with middle eastern terrorist, al queda, or osama bin laden. The only people that get spooked about a “possible” terrorist attack are the same people that think Bush is a good president and actually thought the Rev. Wright controversy was actual news. Thank god I am not brainwashed!

Oh, this probably just exonerates them the next time they stage a man-made catastrophe. But most people won’t be able to afford to go on as many outings to public events as they used to, anyway, because gas prices are so high.
